Unplugged Coding and Tri Hita Karana in Fostering Thinking and Environmental Awareness
The increasing demand for Computational Thinking (CT) and Environmental Awareness (EA) in elementary science education highlights the need for innovative and culturally relevant learning approaches. However, traditional science teaching methods often emphasize rote memorization rather than problem-solving and ecological responsibility, leading to a lack of deeper conceptual understanding among students. This study investigates the influence of Unplugged Coding Learning integrated with Tri Hita Karana (THK) spiritual values on the development of CT and EA in elementary school students. This research employs a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group approach. Data were collected using multiple-choice assessments for CT and EA and were analyzed using Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) to determine the effectiveness of the intervention. The results indicate that students who participated in Unplugged Coding Learning with THK values demonstrated significantly higher gains in CT skills (logical reasoning, problem-solving, and pattern recognition) and EA (understanding sustainability and conservation principles) compared to the control group. The Palemahan aspect of THK, which emphasizes harmony with nature, contributed to students’ increased awareness of environmental issues. These findings suggest that integrating local wisdom into STEM education enhances both cognitive and ethical development. The study implies that culturally embedded educational approaches can bridge computational problem-solving skills with environmental consciousness, fostering a more holistic learning experience. Future research should explore long-term impacts and adaptability of this model across different educational settings
Teachers’ Narratives on Strategies for Enhancing Scientific Curiosity in a Public Secondary School
Teachers’ narratives on strategies for enhancing scientific curiosity in secondary public schools are significant, particularly for uncovering the different approaches science teachers use to cultivate students\u27 curiosity in science education. This research aimed to uncover teachers\u27 narratives about strategies to enhance students\u27 scientific curiosity. This study also examined science teachers\u27 perspectives on scientific curiosity. It utilized a qualitative research design, specifically a narrative inquiry approach. The data were obtained from four junior secondary school science teachers at one school in the central Philippines using a triangulation method: one-on-one interviews, essays, and focus group discussions. The involved conversation partners were determined using a purposeful sampling. Four themes were forwarded based on the original statements of the conversation partners: pedagogical approaches to enhance curiosity, including fostering an active learning environment and resilient instruction to meet students\u27 needs; instructional challenges and difficulties; and scientific curiosity as a curiosity-driven inquiry. This study highlights integrating pedagogical strategies that enhance students\u27 scientific curiosity into daily instruction. Schools should design professional development programs that emphasize curiosity-enhancing teaching methods. The research findings have major consequences for how teachers implement and use pedagogical approaches that cultivate scientific curiosity and for how students engage in the lesson based on the strategies teachers use
Improving the Process of Teaching Students of a Pedagogical University in Biochemistry Using Kaizen Technology
This study aims to develop and theoretically support an adaptive model for teaching biochemistry in pedagogical universities based on Kaizen and the Plan, Do, Check, and Act (PDCA) continuous improvement cycle, as well as to analyse its adaptability to Kazakhstan’s teacher education system by comparing it to international educational practices. Mixed-methods educational Research and Development was used in the project. Theoretical modelling, pedagogical design, document analysis, a qualitative comparative study of Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, and design-based research were used. Kaizen diaries, reflective student reports, and teacher observation procedures collected qualitative data, while descriptive statistics of students’ learning performance and progress dynamics throughout PDCA cycles included quantitative data. The study created a theoretical model of an adaptive biochemistry course using the PDCA stages to plan didactic material, conduct classes with self-control, reflect on learning outcomes, and adjust content. Individualised educational paths, weekly student progress diaries (“Kaizen journals”), knowledge microchecking, and pedagogical time management were major model components. We proposed using interdisciplinary aspects, such as the Fibonacci sequence, to explain protein molecule spatial arrangement, merging biochemistry with arithmetic. Students were given unique autonomous work activities to build modelling, spatial and logical analysis skills. International practices for implementing Kaizen in higher education in Japan, Singapore, and South Korea were analysed to find effective approaches, gamified monitoring tools, mobile applications, and Lean Six Sigma integration for Kazakhstan teacher education
Harmony of Behavior and Environment: The Role of Risks, Attitudes, Norms, Abilities, Self-regulation Models in Optimizing Sustainable Water Management
Access to clean water remains a critical issue in urban-fringe areas where population growth, inadequate sanitation infrastructure, and behavioral patterns intersect. This study investigates the role of psychosocial factors based on the Risks, Attitudes, Norms, Abilities, and Self-regulation (RANAS) model in influencing household water management behavior in Kelurahan Tahunan, Umbulharjo District, Yogyakarta. Using a cross-sectional design and multistage random sampling across representative neighborhoods, data were collected from 97 households and analyzed through multiple linear regression. Results show that perceived risk (β = 0.229, p = 0.035), social norms (β = 0.229, p = 0.028), and abilities (β = 0.321, p = 0.003) significantly affect household behavior in managing clean water, while attitudes and self-regulation were not statistically significant. The findings underscore the importance of integrating behavioral interventions with structural improvements, particularly in areas with limited sanitation infrastructure. This study advocates for targeted community education, infrastructure development, and policy interventions that prioritize social norms and capacity-building to foster sustainable water practices
Analisis Perubahan Penutupan Lahan dan Upaya Konservasi di Kawasan Hutan Lindung Gunung Slamet, Kabupaten Pemalang
Kawasan Hutan Lindung Gunung Slamet di Kabupaten Pemalang merupakan ekosistem penting yang berperan sebagai kawasan terlindungi sebagai keseimbangan ekologis wilayah. Namun, dalam dua dekade terakhir (2004–2024), kawasan ini mengalami tekanan signifikan akibat meningkatnya aktivitas masyarakat yang menyebabkan perubahan penutupan lahan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif dan kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk menganalisis dinamika perubahan penutupan lahan,, serta dampak dan upaya konservasi. Data utama diolah menggunakan Sistem Informasi Geografis (SIG) dari citra satelit multitemporal (2004, 2014, 2024 Hasil menunjukkan terjadi penurunan Hutan Lahan Kering Primer (10,7%), sebaliknya Pertanian Lahan Kering meningkat sangat signifikan (4.505,54 ha) dan Permukiman (673,39 ha). Perubahan ini menyimpulkan bahwa terjadi degradasi hutan, dan upaya konservasi oleh Perhutani BKPH Moga
Pemetaan Kepadatan Permukiman untuk Mendukung Konservasi Lahan Berkelanjutan Menggunakan SIG (Sistem Informasi Geografis) Tahun 2024
Pertumbuhan penduduk yang pesat berdampak signifikan terhadap berbagai aspek kehidupan, terutama dalam hal pemenuhan kebutuhan dasar dan kepadatan permukiman. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dampak pertumbuhan penduduk terhadap kepadatan permukiman di Kecamatan Ngampel, Kabupaten Kendal, dengan memanfaatkan Sistem Informasi Geografis (SIG). Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan mix metode melalui observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi, dan analisis spasial menggunakan perangkat lunak ArcGIS 10.8. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan jumlah penduduk selama 10 tahun terakhir berkontribusi pada perubahan signifikan dalam pola penggunaan lahan dan kepadatan permukiman. Melalui analisis spasial, ditemukan beberapa desa dengan kepadatan tinggi yang memerlukan perhatian khusus dalam perencanaan tata ruang. SIG terbukti efektif dalam memetakan distribusi permukiman dan mendukung pengambilan keputusan berbasis data. Penelitian ini memberikan rekomendasi bagi pemerintah daerah dalam mengelola perkembangan wilayah secara berkelanjutan dan mendorong penggunaan teknologi geospasial dalam perencanaan wilaya
The Influence of The Weight of N,N’-Methylene-bis-Acrylamide as Crosslinker on The Ability of Chitosan-Graft-Poly (Acrylic Acid) Superabsorbent to Water Retention in Sandy Soil
Enhancing the agricultural productivity of sandy soil can be achieved by incorporating a superabsorbent material that serves dual purposes: improving water retention and gradually releasing fertilizer nutrients. The objective of this study is to determine the influence of the weight of N,N’-methylene-bis-acrylamide (MBA) as a crosslinker in chitosan-graft-poly(acrylic acid) superabsorbent on water holding and water retention in sandy soil. The superabsorbent was prepared by mixing a chitosan solution with ammonium persulfate as a catalyst and acrylic acid, which had been neutralized with KOH. Subsequently, the mixture was cross-linked using MBA. The resulting superabsorbent indicated that an increase in the weight of MBA decreased the swelling ratio and increased water retention due to a denser network structure. The water holding capacity for superabsorbent prepared with all MBA weights was nearly the same. The highest swelling ratio and water retention were 167.552 g/g and contained 7.6% water on day 7 for the superabsorbent crosslinked with 0.015 g of MBA
Profile of Life Skills of Elementary School Students Who Participate in Sports Extracurricular Activities at Public Elementary School 053 Cisitu
This study aims to examine the life skills profiles of elementary school students who participate in extracurricular sports activities, specifically futsal and pencak silat, at Public Elementary School 053 Cisitu, Bandung. Using a quantitative descriptive comparative approach, the study involved 42 students aged 11–12 years selected through total sampling. The Positive Youth Development Sustainability Scale (PYDSS) was used as the instrument, which includes six indicators: character, competence, connection, caring, confidence, and contribution. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, normality and homogeneity tests, and independent sample t-tests. The results showed that most students had high (47.6%) to very high (28.6%) life skill levels. Although the average score of futsal participants (108.80) was slightly higher than that of pencak silat participants (107.27), the difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.653). These findings suggest that both team-based and individual sports contribute positively to students’ life skill development. The study emphasizes the importance of well-designed extracurricular programs as a medium for character building and psychosocial development in basic education.
Marital Interference on Academic Activities of Adult and Non-Formal Education Learners: A Study of Women Centres for Continuing Education in North-West,
Despite the centrality of women education in the development of societies, a huge gender gap still exists in education in northern Nigeria, at the detriment of women and girls. The gender disparity in education is induced by a matrix of forces, ranging from poor and negative parental attitude towards the education of the girl child, to stereotyping of girls in the society, leading to high illiteracy among married women and huge school drop-outs. Inspired by the imperative to address the gender concerns, this study investigated the impact of marital responsibilities on the academic activities of married women in Continuing Education Centres in North-west Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was used. A sample size of 306 married women and 152 women without marital status was selected using systematic and stratified sampling techniques. Two instruments (Marital Induced Academic Challenges Questionnaire (MIACQ) and End of Session Examination Scores and were used for data collection. The data collected were analysed using frequency and percentages and t-test. The findings revealed that the inability of married women to relate easily with other learners, inadequate time to do homework without interruption, poor reading skills, and absenteeism in tutorials are some of the academic challenges facing married women as learners. The study concluded that the challenges that emanated from being married women and learners have led to poor academic performance and stress among married women. The maturity displayed by married women learners in coping with the stress of marital and academic responsibilities must be strengthened particularly in the area of development of plan action by the learners themselves. The study recommended that adult and non-formal education programmes such as regular orientation and counseling for both learners and their teachers should be popularize
Optimizing Entrepreneurship at the Community Learning Center (CLC) through E-Commerce Marketing
Community Learning Center (CLC) as one of the government\u27s partners in educating people\u27s lives through non-formal education service programs, it is hoped that CLC is not only able to grow a learning society (learning society), but also can improve their abilities and skills in dealing with socio-economic progress through entrepreneurship assistance activities which are one of the focuses of the purpose of the presence of CLC in the midst of the community. The facts on the ground show that CLC, especially in West Sumatra Province, has not been able to optimally become a community education institution that accommodates entrepreneurship-based activities for the community. Entrepreneurial activities carried out by CLC have not been able to create an entrepreneurial spirit and have not been able to maximally facilitate the marketing of CLC business products widely, which is still only local so that CLC entrepreneurial activities are underdeveloped and have not produced significant results. This study aims to see the optimization of entrepreneurship at the Community Learning Activity Center (CLC) through E- Commerce marketing. The results of the study show in fact the main obstacles in the lack of utilization of e-commerce by entrepreneurship activities today are; 1) There is still a lack of understanding of partners regarding E-Commerce; 2) Lack of partner expertise in creating online stores as a means of marketing; 3) Lack of use of smartphones as a marketing medium 4.
