Renesansowe kafle z tarczownikami z wyspy tumskiej w Poznaniu
The paper presents an assemblage of Renaissance stove tiles with an image of the so-called shield-bearer, excavated at Ostrów Tumski, Poznań. The coats of arms pictured on panels represent noble houses of Poznań and Wielkopolska. The attempt has been made to refer them to particular persons dwelling on the cathedral island, where the tiles were used in the construction of ceramic stoves
Dystynktywna funkcja broni w kręgu halsztackim
The most popular area of research interest regarding the weaponry is the sphere of typological classification of individual types of weapon, aimed at the issues of the origin and chronology of articular items. The role of weaponry in the society to which an archaeological site that produced weapons was attributed to is also investigated, or even its role in a wider context, within a particular cultural circle the community was part of. From the point of view of history, such research area seems more interesting and extends beyond common, nevertheless necessary and useful, analysis of sources. There are a number of premises to demonstrate that beside the basic function of weaponry, it was also meant to emphasise the social status of its owner. The evidence showing that weaponry played such a role is known since the Upper Palaeolithic; it was also mentioned several times in Homeric epics
Figurka ornitomorficzna z Międzyrzecza w województwie lubuskim
Rescue excavations undertaken in 2004 in advance of the construction of the first part of the Międzyrzecz ring road, entailed the investigation of a multicultural settlement site Międzyrzecz 10. The site produced a fragmented clay ornithomorphic figurine of a water bird, most probably a duck. The chronology of the figurine was estimated at the final Bronze Age (V BA) – the beginning of the Iron Age (Hallstatt period). Unfortunately, the figurine was a stray find from a secondary deposit. The item – a whole figurine on one limb – belongs to the most frequent group among individual representations of birds. The representation of the bird is one of the most common motifs in the figurative art in the western province of the Lusatian culture towards the end of the Bronze Age and in the Hallstatt period
The Józef Kostrzewski Poznań School of Archaeology. Several reflections on the illuminations and shadows of prehistory studies in respect to the Bronze and Early Iron Ages
In the paper, the authors wish to reflect on Józef Kostrzewski’s research postulates in the context of passing time, in particular on the influence of his work on the further development of research on the Bronze and Early Iron Ages in the interfluvial region of the Odra and Vistula. Bearing in mind the vastness of issues, only two major research questions shall be addressed: cultural taxonomy (mainly in respect to the Lusatian culture) as well as and the chronology and periodisation of the abovementioned prehistory period in the general historical and methodological contexts
Pradziejowe ślady uprawy roli z Wielkopolski i ziemi lubuskiej
Discoveries of agrarian fields are very rare in Poland. In 2006 in Straszków, the district of Koło, in Wielkopolska, and in Kożuchów, the district of Nowa Sól, in Ziemia Lubuska, two fields with the remains of ard-marks were found. Both discoveries have been dated to the Lusatian culture, the former to the Hallstatt period and the latter to the Late Bronze Age
Nowe kostki mozaikowe z Ostrowa Tumskiego w Poznaniu, stan. 13
Between 1950 and 2010, the central and southern parts of the fortified settlement in Poznań yielded over 280 glass mosaic cubes – tesserae, dated to the 11th till 13th century (the largest collection of such decorative elements in Poland). The western part of the site Ostrów Tumski 13 (OT 13), produced two more cubes. The cubes (one translucent and gilded, the other one red) probably come from the destroyed palatial-sacral complex, or from the cathedral, or any other building in the area
