Interview Excerpt of Mr. Joseph Caver
Joseph Caver, a noted historian, is the son of Albert and Thelma Caver, was born in Independence, AL. He attended Autauga County training school and graduated from Alabama State College. Later in life he became the first African-American archivist at the Alabama Department of Archives and History. Caver has conducted extensive research on ASU’s history. His master’s thesis "From Marion to Montgomery, 1867 to 1887: A Twenty-Year History of Alabama State University" is considered an authoritative documentation of ASU’s history. Caver served as a research consultant for the John F. Knight vs. the State of Alabama landmark desegregation case. He also consulted on a documentary on the history of the Lincoln Normal school, which aired on Alabama Public Television. He is a major supporter for ASU Athletics. Caver currently works as an archivist at the Air Force Historical Research Agency at Maxwell Air Force Base and is an adjunct instructor at ASU
