    No full text
This paper examines the issue of Arabic poetics, focusing its research on the characteristics of the poetics of tradition that emerged in the so-called Renaissance era. This period constituted a new phase in the return to the foundations of oral Arabic poetics, represented by the poetics of the second Abbasid era, which witnessed transformations in the poetic concept and its textual substitutions. Therefore, the focus was on the poetics of revival, represented by the poet Mahmoud Sami El Baroudi, who restored the stylistic and poetic status of Arabic poetry in the modern era and presented a poetic model from the Abbasid era to be emulated.

The notion of historicity is confusing, as it traces a linear path through history and a change in mentality. It is not strictly historical, but rather a mode of civilisation that rejects traditional practices and cultural norms. From a theoretical perspective, historical production is neither a sociological nor a philosophical concept; rather, it manifests itself in practical domains such as human and blood history. It is realised through the religious beliefs and spiritualities of parties that should no longer influence the development of thought. This ideology is the result of a long process initiated by the dogmatism of rationality, which proclaims, “Everything is materialism”.L’historicité est une notion confuse qui trace un trajet linéaire dans l’histoire et un changement de mentalité.

The September 11 attacks (also referred to as 9/11) marked a change observed inthe world’s focus on Islam and Arabs/Middle Easterners specifically. Post 9/11 fiction is highly characterized by Orientalist stereotyping. Islam is claimed to nurture terrorism, and promote bloodshed, and Arabs/Middle Easternersare called the “terrorists” who have beenbehind the attacks.Asa result, a powerful massive and aggressive literary attack has been directed towards contemporary Arab and Muslim societies for their “violence.”In the light of Edward Said’s Orientalism (1978), this article seeks to discuss three post 9/11 American literary works and highlight their writers’ positive portrayal of the main Arab/Muslim characters, a portrayal which dismantles the stronglyestablished stereotype of violence that post 9/11 fiction emphatically mirrors. These works are Lorrie Moore’s A Gate at the Stairs (2009), Claire Messud’s The Woman Upstairs (2013) and Lorraine Adams Harbor (2004). By exploiting these writers’ portrayal of the protagonists of the novels and by referring to keynovels inpost 9/11fictionwhichoffer key features ofthe stereotype of violence, we aim at demonstrating that Lorrie Moore’s A Gate at the stairs, Claire Messud’sThe Woman Upstairs and Lorraine Adams’ Harbor challenge the stereotype of violent Arabs/Muslims spread in the aftermath of 9/1

Algerian print journalism in the context of the spiral of Silence theory: reinforcement or resistance?

    Get PDF
The Spiral of Silence theory is one of the first media theories that explains audience behavior, as it assumes a correlational relationship between the content and agendas disseminated by the media and the orientations of the masses. It is a dynamic process influenced by multiple social, cultural, and political factors... The Spiral of Silence theory also based on the premise that individuals tend to shape their opinions according to the prevailing public opinion. Consequently, public opinion forms in alignment with the ideas promoted by the media, leading to a unified mass public opinion. On the other hand, those who oppose this opinion choose to remain silent to avoid group persecution and fear of social isolation. Thus, even if they hold beliefs contrary to those presented by the media and communication outlets, they suppress their personal views and refrain from participating in the discourse. Here, silence becomes an expression of rejection rather than acceptance, forming the latent public opinion. This article examines the applicability of this theory in the Algerian context by analyzing current events and developments in the local sphere, particularly through Algerian print journalism. The findings reveal that Algerian newspapers were not uniform in their approach to public issues. Some official outlets played a clear role in reinforcing the spiral of silence through mechanisms of marginalization and selective amplification, contributing to a climate of self-censorship and reluctance to express dissenting views
