    Outage Probability and Throughput Analysis of Rate-Splitting Multiple Access for Power Line Communications

    International audiencePower line communication (PLC) suffers from channel impairments, among which impulsive noise is a major challenge impacting communication performance. In this letter, we incorporate rate splitting multiple access (RSMA) into PLC to ensure robustness, leveraging RSMA’s ability to mitigate channel impairments. We derive analytical expressions for the outage probability (OP) and throughput. We optimize the power and target rate allocation to minimize the system OP. The proposed algorithm significantly reduces the OP. An analysis of the OP-throughput trade-off as a function of target rate shows that RSMA-PLC achieves higher throughput while maintaining lower OP

    International audienceThis communication describes an experimental study of multilayer piezo-magnetic acoustic wave devices used as sensors of external magnetic fields applied in plane, parallel or perpendicular to the direction of the acoustic wave propagation direction. The considered device consists of a layered structure Mag/ZnO/IDT/LNY-128, Mag being the sensitive magnetoelastic layer. Two magnetoelastic films are investigated as sensitive layers: Ni and CoFeB. Their sensitivities to the magnetic field intensity and direction are measured and compared.</div

    Rôle des acteurs du système agrialimentaire dans le développement des interactions cultures-élevages à l'échelle territoriale

    International audienceCrop-livestock interactions improve the autonomy of crop-livestock farms (Martel et al., 2017), while providing ecosystem services (Kremen and Miles, 2012). In standardized agricultural production landscapes, integrated crop-livestock systems at territorial scale (ICLS) can be seen as an opportunity to modify agricultural practices towards agroecology (Bonaudo et al., 2014). Research on practices such as crop diversification (Meynard et al., 2018) has highlighted how the agrifood sector influences the diffusion of alternative farming practices. However, the role of the agrifood sector in the development of ICLS remains largely understudied. Therefore, our study focuses on key actors in this sector: farmers and stakeholders involved in collection and primary processing. The territoire of Ternois - 7 Vallées was chosen to address these issues. With a history of mixed farming, this region is experiencing a dynamic of specialization, driven by the presence of major industrial players in the potato, industrial vegetable, and sugar production sectors. This study seeks to understand how agrifood stakeholders can act as barriers and/or enablers on changes in practice, here ICLS.Les interactions entre cultures et élevage améliorent l'autonomie des exploitations mixtes (Martel et al., 2017), tout en fournissant des services écosystémiques (Kremen et Miles, 2012). Dans les paysages agricoles standardisés, les interactions cultures - élevage à l'échelle territoriale (ICET) peuvent être considérés comme une opportunité pour modifier les pratiques agricoles vers l'agroécologie (Bonaudo et al., 2014) . Les recherches sur des pratiques telles que la diversification des cultures (Meynard et al., 2018) ont mis en évidence l'influence du système agroalimentaire sur la diffusion de pratiques agricoles alternatives. Cependant, le rôle du système agroalimentaire dans le développement des ICET reste largement méconnu. Notre étude se concentre donc sur les acteurs clés de ce système : les agriculteurs et les acteurs impliquées dans la collecte et la transformation primaire des productions agricoles. Le territoire de Ternois - 7 Vallées a été choisi pour aborder ces questions. Avec un historique de polyculture-élevage, cette région connaît une dynamique de spécialisation, soutenue par la présence d'acteurs industriels majeurs dans les secteurs de la pomme de terre, des légumes industriels et de la production de sucre.Cette étude vise à comprendre comment les acteurs du système agroalimentaires peuvent agir comme des freins et/ou des catalyseurs des changements de pratiques, ici pour les ICET

    Social deprivation as a key driver of spatial disparities in end-stage kidney disease incidence

    International audienceBackgroundDespite France's universal healthcare system, significant geographic disparities in the incidence of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) persist. We hypothesized that social deprivation is a major driver of these spatial variations, independent of healthcare access and clinical risk factors, and that its contribution is stable over time.MethodsWe conducted an ecological study including 102 226 incident ESKD cases across 34 830 municipalities in metropolitan France from 2012 to 2021, using data from the national REIN (Renal Epidemiology and Information Network) registry. A Bayesian hierarchical spatiotemporal model was used to estimate the association between ESKD incidence and ecological-level covariates: social deprivation [measured by the French European Deprivation Index (EDI)], diabetes prevalence, dialysis center accessibility and long-term exposure to PM2.5 (fine particulate matter, ≤2.5 µm in diameter). We estimated the population-attributable fraction of ESKD incidence for each factor under various counterfactual scenarios.ResultsSocial deprivation was strongly associated with ESKD incidence [relative risk per 1 standard deviation increase in EDI: 1.10 (95% credible interval 1.09–1.11)] and explained 34.7% of its spatial variability. The association was only partially mediated by diabetes prevalence [mediation proportion: 15.3% (95% confidence interval 12.5–18.2)]. The model incorporating all covariates explained 49.9% of the observed spatial heterogeneity. The effect of social deprivation remained consistent over time. Reducing deprivation in the most disadvantaged areas to the levels of the 5th, 25th and 50th percentiles of less deprived areas could have prevented an estimated 23 092, 17 450 and 13 601 ESKD cases, respectively, over the study period.ConclusionsSocial deprivation is the leading ecological determinant of spatial disparities in ESKD incidence in France, with limited mediation by clinical factors and persistent effects despite universal healthcare. These findings underscore the need to address social determinants of health and to adapt kidney care delivery models to better reach socioeconomically disadvantaged populations
