    Influence of Growth Temperature and Scandium Concentration on the Surface Oxidation of ScAlN Films Grown by Molecular Beam Epitaxy

    International audienceRecently, there has been a large interest in the ScAlN alloy, thanks to its various applications in high-frequency highpower, acoustoelectric, and ferroelectric devices. Nonetheless, these applications could be impaired by defects present in the ScAlN alloy, such as oxygen impurities, a very prevalent defect due to the high oxygen affinity of scandium. Recent trends in ScAlN growth such as lowering growth and increasing Sc content could have an effect in the appearance of these impurities. Considering this, we have studied the influence of growth temperature and Sc content in the surface oxide and oxygen content of ScAlN films grown by ammonia source molecular beam epitaxy and characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and angle resolved-X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

    International audienceThis paper presents a comparative study of real-time beamforming techniques for railway communication systems in Line-of-Sight (LoS) and Non-Line-of-Sight (NLoS) scenarios. Using the 3GPP TR 38.901 channel model, initial machine learning (ML)-based beam prediction solutions are evaluated, and advanced models are proposed to address their limitations. The results demonstrate significant improvements in beam prediction accuracy and robustness, emphasizing the importance of diverse data collection to capture channel variability

    CSR Performance and Firm Value: Disentangling the Role of ESG Rating Providers

    International audienceWe study the impact on firm valuation of a novel exogenous shock to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data that affects how firms’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) gets measured by a third‐party ESG data provider. Our analysis reveals a significantly higher sensitivity of firm values to CSR ratings for firms whose CSR ratings were affected by the change in ESG reporting methodology. Moreover, firms with low capital constraints or low institutional ownership tend to drive the value sensitivity of CSR ratings when ESG reporting gets revamped. These findings provide insight into how ESG rating providers could influence and shape firms’ actual CSR engagement

    Topology optimization of phoxonic crystals for maximizing dual bandgaps using GA-SIMP method

    International audiencePhoxonic crystals are photonic-phononic or optomechanical periodic structures that simultaneously exhibit dual bandgaps. This allows for the confinement of both optical and elastic waves in cavities and waveguides, providing a powerful platform for novel optomechanical devices and systems. The opening of dual bandgaps is crucial to these potential applications. Topology optimization offers maximum freedom in the dual bandgap structure design, however, relevant research is limited. We propose a two-stage algorithm to maximize the dual bandgaps, where a genetic algorithm is used to find the initial design, and then the SIMP method is employed to obtain the optimal solution. This GA-SIMP hybrid approach capitalizes on the global search capability of GA to explore the design space and identify potential configurations, while harnessing the computational efficiency and precision of SIMP to refine and converge to high-quality solutions. This strategy effectively balances global exploration with local refinement, addressing the trade-off challenges in dual bandgap optimization for phoxonic crystals. We demonstrate the design capability of the coupled methodology by opening bandgaps between different bands in the numerical examples, and the optimized structures show intermediate states between interconnected and mutually independent configurations

    Closed-form solutions for wave propagation in hexagonal diatomic non-local lattices

    International audiencePeriodic mass–spring lattices are commonly used to investigate the propagation of waves in elastic systems, including wave localisation and topological protection in phononic crystals and metamaterials. Recent studies have shown that introducing non-neighbouring (i.e., beyond nearest neighbour) connections in these chains leads to multiple topologically localised modes, while generating roton-like dispersion relations. This paper focuses on the theoretical analysis of elastic wave propagation in hexagonal diatom mass–spring systems in which both neighbouring and non-neighbouring interactions occur through linear elastic springs. Closed-form expression for the dispersion equations are derived, up to an arbitrary order of beyond-the-nearest connections for both in-plane and out-of-plane mass displacements. This allows to explicitly determine the influence of the order of non-neighbouring interactions on the band gaps, the local minima and the slope inversions in the first Brillouin zone for the considered unit cell. All analytical solutions are numerically verified. Finally, examples are provided on how non-neighbouring connections can be exploited to enhance the localisation of topologically-protected edge modes in waveguides constructed using mirror symmetric diatomic lattices constituted by two regions with different unit cell orientations. The study provides further insight on how to design phononic crystals generating roton-like behaviour and to exploit them for topologically protected waveguiding

    Ethical Conflict and Team Innovation: A Categorization– Elaboration Model Approach

    International audienceConflict is an inherent aspect of group decision-making and interpersonal negotiations, but how ethical conflict (e.g., disagreement over moral values and ethical principles) shapes group dynamics remains an uncharted area. Drawing on the Categorization–Elaboration Model (CEM), we intend to examine whether and when team ethical conflict influences team innovation in the present study. Specifically, we predict that information elaboration serves as a mediator, as high levels of ethical conflict generate biased judgments among teammates and hinder the exchange of task-relevant information. Also, we predict that process conflict (e.g., disagreement over role allocation and task distribution) serves as the moderator, as low levels of process conflict ensure clear role distribution, efficient task allocation, and consensus on workflows, which can mitigate the negative effect of ethical conflict. We test our hypotheses and find empirical support using a sample of 289 individual responses nested within 90 research and development (R&D) teams. This research advances our understanding of the emerging and important construct of ethical conflict, extends the CEM by emphasizing the pivotal role of information elaboration in group decision-making, and offers new insights into the ongoing debate on conflict, innovation, and the interaction of different conflict types
