Improving electrical contact of vertically aligned carbon nanotubes with bonding metals in thermocompression bonding through oxygen plasma treatment

    No full text
International audienceVertically aligned carbon nanotubes (VACNTs) are being widely studied due to their exceptional mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties. The application of thermocompression bonding (TCB) technique has positioned VACNTs as promising candidates for 3D heterogeneous integration, interconnects, and nanopackaging. However, challenges arise from a CNT-cluster layer covering the top surface of the as-grown VACNTs, adversely affecting wettability and electrical contact between the VACNTs and the bonding metals used in the TCB process. To mitigate this issue, we propose using oxygen plasma reactive ion etching (RIE) to treat the top and/or bottom surfaces of the VACNTs. Scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy characterizations confirm the successful removal of the CNT-cluster layer from the top surface following the RIE treatment, and excessive RIE treatment may cause partial damage to the graphitic structures of the VACNT surface. Direct-current measurements on fabricated VACNT wall π-bridge structures further validate the enhancement in electrical contact between the top surface-treated VACNTs and the bonding metals. This improvement is attributed to the effective removal of the CNT-cluster layer and the relative minimal damage to the graphitic structures, particularly in comparison to the bottom surface-treated VACNTs

The impact of defect density on a CGS/CIGS tandem solar cell’s performance

International audienceCopper Indium Gallium Selenide (CIGS) solar cells became a leading thin-film photovoltaic device because of their stability, relatively low production costs, and high efficiency, particularly when used in tandem configurations. A monolithic tandem cell is proposed in this paper. Copper Gallium Selenide (CGS) and CIGS structures constitute the two p-n junctions of this cell. The studied tandem cell’s electrical parameters were optimized using a 2D Silvaco-Atlas simulator, considering the variation of the indium concentration, the temperature, and the thickness of the bottom cell’s absorber layer. Comparisons between the performance of the CGS/CIGS tandem solar cell, considering and excluding defect density, were then done for the optimal value of Indium concentration x = 0.81 which corresponds to the minimum value of defect density Nt = 1.66·1015 cm−3. When the density of material defects is considered, the efficiency of the proposed tandem cell attained 20.35 %, with an open-circuit voltage (VOC) of 1.58 V, a short-circuit current density (JSC) of 16.26 mA cm−2 and a Fill Factor (FF) of 79.40 %. However, an efficiency of η = 32.58 % is obtained when the defect density is ignored, highlighting the impact of defect density on the overall performance of the monolithic CGS/CIGS tandem solar cell

This thesis aimed to evaluate the impact of certain traditional Lebanese dairy products onhuman health. Two types of products, Darfiyeh and Labneh, derived from artisanalfermentations, were studied for their microbial composition and specific effects on humanhealth. The microbial composition was assessed through targeted metagenomic analysis and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. Food safety was examined by analyzing antibiotic resistance, as well as the pathogenic, antagonistic, and probiotic potential of the identified microorganisms. In vitro tests were conducted to evaluate the antioxidant, antihypertensive, and anti-inflammatory activities of the products. This study highlighted the unique microbial and functional characteristics of two traditional Lebanese dairy products. Despite variationsbetween producers, these products exhibited strong probiotic and antagonistic potential. In vitro tests revealed more pronounced antioxidant and antihypertensive effects for Darfiyeh and significant anti-inflammatory activity for both products. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the microbiota and functional properties of traditional dairy products, opening new perspectives for health applications and the preservation of artisanal production methods.

    No full text

Isatis tinctoria L.—From Botanical Description to Seed-Extracted Compounds and Their Applications: An Overview

    No full text
International audienceIsatis tinctoria L. (Brassicaceae), also known as woad or dyer’s woad, is an ancient plant with a rosy future ahead. Most of the knowledge about woad is related to indigo dye production and its medicinal applications, especially its leaves. The general interest in woad has decreased with the rise of petroleum-based products. However, nowadays this plant is attracting interest again with industries reintroducing natural dyes. To meet the market demand in a sustainable manner, recent studies have focused specifically on woad seeds, leading to a valorization of the whole woad plant. This review provides an overview of the botanical, phytochemical composition, and properties of woad seeds, primarily supporting their cosmetic and pharmaceutical potential. From a chemical point of view, woad seeds mainly contain fatty acids, amino acids, phytosterols and glucosinolates. These compounds have been investigated through their extraction and analytical methods, as well as their properties and industrial applications

    No full text
International audienceBased on a generalized Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model, we design a non-Hermitian periodic or disordered elastic platform with feedback control where we theoretically study the topological phase diagrams and edge states. Considering both one and two-dimensional structures, we demonstrate in theory and simulations the relative effects of non-Hermiticity and disorder
