Fragment księgozbioru Ponińskich z Kościelca w zbiorach Wojewódzkiej i Miejskiej Biblioteki Publicznej w Bydgoszczy
This article attempts at reconstructing the history of a private book collection that belonged to the Poniński family from Greater Poland settled in Kościelec Kujawski, a small village near Inowrocław. However, the collection’s profile, size and its final shape can only be determined hypothetically since there are too many gaps to establish something with certainty. During the war the book collection was dispersed and only a small fraction, now held at the public library in Bydgoszcz, survived. Those items from the collection that have been identified are described in detail. A further search for the books fromthe dispersed collection could cast more light on this valuable manorial library that so far has been virtually non-existent in all Polish bibliographies and monographs. This article attempts at reconstructing the history of a private book collection that belonged to the Poniński family from Greater Poland settled in Kościelec Kujawski, a small village near Inowrocław. Biblioteka mojego wieku – czyli jaka?
Contemporary libraries of the twenty-first century are characterized by a marked fluctuation of roles and functions commonly ascribed to them. Librarians are expected to be capable of anticipating them and addressing them appropriately in order to satisfy the requirements set up by users. This article is an attempt to discuss the most important changes that have hitherto been done and to indicate those areas of the activity of research, academic, public and, to a lesser degree, school libraries in which those changes will be particularly pronounced. Anticipated roles and tasks within the management and access to resources, building up own electronic resources and their processing, library space, embarking on tasks hitherto not regarded as strictly \u27\u27library" tasks as well as the most important changes in the author\u27s view such as those to be introduced in user services, in-service trainings, education and propagation of knowledge are discussed in the article. The author believes that the new functions, on par with those already existing, should be subjected to actual users, but also to potential ones, even deeper than before. This should effect in creating the library environment as a \u27\u27meeting place", some kind of a social space to perform entirely new functions superimposed onto traditional ones in the library information. The new functions will include performing new cultural, educational, social, artistic and communal tasks carried out with a co-operation with other libraries, scientific, educational and cultural instructions. Additionally, the problem of changes in work force management, so vital in the supposed and anticipated transformation of the library and its functions, is evaluated and discussed.Contemporary libraries of the twenty-first century are characterized by a marked fluctuation of roles and functions commonly ascribed to them. One vision, one platform, one company – power of one. Czy nowy system biblioteczny zrewolucjonizuje bibliotekę?
Over ten years have passed since integrated library systems were first introduced in Polish libraries. During that time the enormous development in IT technologies effected in upgrading the database, the emergence of new versions and in activating new functions of library programs. Users of the Horizon integrated library system are currently facing the implemantation of the new innovative Rome system. The article presents its specifications and properties revealed during the May conference of Horizon users in Barcelona earlier this year and, at the same time, its aim is to provoke a discussion - what library system is best suited for library purposes of the 21 century? What programs are most favoured by librarians, how to modify options of particular modules or new technologies to adjust them to current changes on the market and ever-growing needs and requirements demanded by libraries and their users.
Biblioteka Uniwersytecka w Poznaniu i Biblioteka Poznańskiego Towarzystwa Przyjaciół Nauk w latach 1919-1953. Od współpracy do przyjaznego współistnienia
The article recalls an important episode in the history of the two distinguished libraries in the region. When, in 1919, the new Polish university in Poznań was established it did not have a matching library for the purposes and aspirations of a newly-established academic institution. When the former Kaiser Wilhelm Bibliothek was converted into the University Library it could not initially manage the task as its collections almost did not include many sought-after Polish books. The problem was finally resolved by a decision to co-operate closely with the library of the Society of the Friends of Sciences. In return for some financial support (some of the librarians working in the library were included the University salary grid), the library of the Society undertook to made its collections available to the University staff and students. This was of utmost importance as the University Library, especially in the first years of its existence, suffered from painful shortages in copies of Polish books, and this opportunity helped the University to cope with the teething problems and provide its students with good studying conditions. The article recalls an important episode in the history of the two distinguished libraries in the region.
