Etudiants en exil : spécificités des besoins et entraînement à la prise de notes en langue étrangère
International audienceParmi les diverses situations d’enseignement-apprentissage en classe multilingue, notre attention se portera sur un dispositif récent qui, à notre avis, fait émerger un nouveau public à prendre en compte en didactique des langues et des cultures. Il s’agit du diplôme d’université (DU) « Passerelle », créé en 2019, à la demande du réseau national d’établissements de l’enseignement supérieur en France « Migrants dans l’enseignement supérieur » (MenS). Ce nouveau DU qui comprend à la fois des cours de français langue étrangère et des ateliers d’acculturation à l’environnement universitaire et social (Bouffet et al. 2021) a la particularité de s’adresser à des migrants qui désirent suivre des études supérieures en France. Ce public diffère donc de celui généralement pris en compte dans les recherches sur les formations linguistiques pour adultes migrants, relevant d’origines sociales modestes et d’un faible niveau de scolarisation antérieure (Adami 2020). Ces étudiants en exil ont plus de points communs avec les autres étudiants internationaux qui, comme eux, ont besoin de cours de français sur objectif universitaire (Mangiante et Parpette 2011). Mais ils s’en distinguent néanmoins dans la mesure où ils n’ont pas choisi leur mobilité et peuvent se trouver en situation de précarité juridique et donc de vulnérabilité (Avram et Prunet 2020, Chassin et al. 2020). Notre article s’attachera à rendre compte des spécificités de ce public, mieux identifié et pris en charge depuis la création des DU Passerelle : profils, langue-culture première et langues d’études, formation universitaire antérieure, projet professionnel et d’études en France, compétences en méthodologies universitaires. Nous analyserons également le dispositif (cahier des charges, acteurs impliqués, ingénierie de formation) dans le but d’approfondir la réflexion sur l’enseignement du français dans ce contexte complexe. Afin d’en évaluer les modalités, nous porterons tout particulièrement notre attention sur le cours de français sur objectif universitaire et, au sein de ce dernier, sur l’entrainement à la prise de notes (Omer 2003). La prise de notes constitue en effet un savoir-faire complexe (Faraco 1997, Hilgert 2009, Janin 2009), essentiel pour la réussite des études en France. Nos données d’analyse, recueillies au sein d’un DU Passerelle mis en place au DEFLE Bordeaux Montaigne, sont constituées des réponses des étudiants à deux questionnaires sur la prise de notes, ainsi que de leurs prises de notes lors d’exercices effectués en cours de FOU, afin de pouvoir comparer leurs représentations et leurs pratiques effectives. L’analyse du corpus permet d’identifier des signes de difficultés, mais aussi les stratégies scripturales qu’ils mettent en œuvre (Barbier et al. 2003, Faraco 1997) et qui se diversifient au long du cours. Cela nous permettra de tirer les premières conclusions de cette recherche-évaluation sur le DU Passerelle
Direct Numerical Simulation of film boiling around a superheated sphere immersed in a subcooled liquid
International audienceFilm boiling around immersed objects in a subcooled liquid is critical in various engineering applications and offer many scientific issues. After presenting a numerical solver able to simulate film boiling around a solid obstacle and some preliminary validations of this solver, we propose a comprehensive study based on the Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) to investigate accurately on the dynamical and heat transfer effects inside the vapor film. After defining two Jakob numbers related respectively to the wall superheat and to the liquid, a parametric study is performed by varying both dimensionless numbers. The simulations allow to visualize the flow structure inside the vapor film and to predict angular variations of the local Nusselt number along the solid wall. In particular, spatial distributions of the local heat flux, related to variations of the film thickness along the solid obstacle, are observed with higher values at the bottom part of the sphere due to buoyancy effect. The simulations also provide accurate data on the global Nusselt number variation with respect to the Jakob numbers and confirm the dominance of conduction heat transfer inside the vapor film. Finally, the study also explores the equilibrium between vaporization and condensation processes which leads to the stabilization of the vapor film around the solid obstacle. This research enhances the understanding of subcooled film boiling and offers new data for film boiling model validation

Sensory room: Naturalistic assessment of auditory and visual perception in developing children
International audienceIntroduction: Hearing is essential for language acquisition and understanding the environment. Understanding how children react to auditory and visual information is essential for appropriate management in case of hearing loss. Objective and subjective assessments can diagnose hearing loss, but do not measure natural perception in children. We developed a "sensory room" for complementary assessment of children's perceptions so as to assess behavioral responses to meaningful natural sounds and visual stimuli in an ecologic environment suited to children.Material and methods: Sixteen normal-hearing children and 10 with congenital hearing loss before cochlear implantation, aged 13 to 32months, were included in this feasibility study. They perceived 18 environmental sounds and 9 visual stimuli, and their behavioral responses were coded accordingly as: stopping, looking, moving, pointing, language or emotional reactions.Result: All children completed the task, demonstrating its feasibility in children. Percentage responses to auditory versus visual stimuli did not differ in normal-hearing children; those with congenital hearing loss responded like normal-hearing children to visual stimuli, but did not react to auditory stimuli. Progression in normal-hearing children's behavioral responses corresponded to cognitive and linguistic development according to age.Conclusion: The "sensory room" quantified children's responses to various auditory and visual stimuli, providing clinicians with measurable insight into the children's sensory perception and processing

Towards Zero-Shot Cross-Agent Transfer Learning via Latent-Space Universal Notice Network
International audienceDespite numerous improvements regarding the sample-efficiency of Reinforcement Learning (RL) methods, learning from scratch still requires millions (even dozens of millions) of interactions with the environment to converge to a high-reward policy. This is usually because the agent has no prior information about the task and its own physical embodiment. One way to address and mitigate this data-hungriness is to use Transfer Learning (TL). In this paper, we explore TL in the context of RL with the specific purpose of transferring policies from one agent to another, even in the presence of morphology discrepancies or different stateaction spaces. We propose a process to leverage past knowledge from one agent (source) to speed up or even bypass the learning phase for a different agent (target) tackling the same task. Our proposed method first leverages Variational Auto-Encoders (VAE) to learn an agent-agnostic latent space from paired, time-aligned trajectories collected on a set of agents. Then, we train a policy embedded inside the created agent-invariant latent space to solve a given task, yielding a task-module reusable by any of the agents sharing this common feature space. Through several robotic tasks and heterogeneous hardware platforms, both in simulation and on physical robots, we show the benefits of our approach in terms of improved sample-efficiency. More specifically we report zero-shot generalization in some instances, where performances after transfer are recovered instantly. In worst case scenarios, performances are retrieved after fine-tuning on the target robot for a fraction of the training cost required to train a policy with similar performances from scratch
Search for displaced leptons in TeV and TeV collisions with the ATLAS detector
International audienceA search for leptons displaced from the primary vertex is performed with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The search includes the full proton-proton collision dataset collected during Run 2 at TeV and a partial dataset collected during Run 3 in 2022-2023 at TeV, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 140 fb and 56.3 fb, respectively. Final states with displaced electrons or muons are considered, and novel triggers introduced in Run 3 are employed that use large impact parameter tracking to reconstruct displaced tracks with low momentum. In addition, photon reconstruction and multivariate techniques are employed to broaden the sensitivity to channels with large background rates or highly displaced electrons, respectively. The results are consistent with the Standard Model background expectations and are used to set model-independent limits on the production of displaced electrons and muons. The analysis is also interpreted in the context of a gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking model with pair-produced long-lived sleptons, and a dark sector model with pair-produced chargino-like states. The results include 95% CL exclusions of selectrons with lifetimes from 4 ps to 60 ns and a mass of 150 GeV, and exclusions of selectrons, smuons, and staus with a lifetime of 0.3 ns for masses up to 740 GeV, 830 GeV, and 440 GeV, respectively. Dark charginos with masses up to 380 GeV are excluded for a mass difference with the neutral state of 40 GeV, and mass differences down to 17 GeV are excluded for dark charginos with a 100 GeV mass
