Relationship Between Posterior Shoulder Tightness and Lower-Limb Flexibility in College Baseball Players
Get PDFapplication/pdfContext: Posterior shoulder tightness evaluated as limited glenohumeral internal rotation and horizontal adduction is a risk factor for throwing-related shoulder and elbow injuries. Given that the throwing motion uses the entire body kinematics, limited lower-limb flexibility might be associated with posterior shoulder tightness. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the relationships between posterior shoulder tightness and lower-limb flexibility in college baseball players. Design: Cross-sectional study. Setting: University laboratory. Participants: Twenty-two college baseball players (20 right-handed and 2 left-handed). Methods: To investigate the relationships between glenohumeral range of motion and lower-limb flexibility using simple linear regression analysis, we measured passive range of motion of glenohumeral internal rotation and horizontal adduction, hip internal/external rotation in the prone/sitting position, ankle dorsiflexion, and quadriceps and hamstrings flexibility from both shoulders and legs. Results: Our analysis indicated that decreases in the lead leg hip external rotation in the prone position were moderately associated with limitations in glenohumeral internal rotation (R2 = .250, β [95% confidence interval, CI] = 0.500 [0.149 to 1.392], P = .018) and horizontal adduction (R2 = .200, β [95% CI] = 0.447 [0.051 to 1.499], P = .019) on the throwing shoulder. Furthermore, there were significant moderate relationships between decreases in glenohumeral internal rotation and limited lead leg quadriceps flexibility (R2 = .189, β [95% CI] = 0.435 [0.019 to 1.137], P = .022), and between decreases in glenohumeral horizontal adduction and limited stance leg ankle dorsiflexion (R2 = .243, β [95% CI] = 0.493 [0.139 to 1.438], P = .010). Conclusion: College baseball players with limited lower-limb flexibilities including the lead leg hip external rotation in the prone position, the lead leg quadriceps flexibility, and the stance leg ankle dorsiflexion showed excessive posterior shoulder tightness. The current results support the hypothesis that lower-limb flexibility is associated with posterior shoulder tightness in college baseball players.journal articl

Stress Responses of Examiners during Ophthalmic Examination Practices in Healthy Young Students
Get PDF論文(Article)The stress reaction of trainees is an issue in the practices of medical‑related examinations that involve real‑time decision making based on the examiner–subject interactions. The Goldmann perimetry (GP) test is one of these examinations. To evaluate the students’ stress reactions in the practice of the GP test, the stress‑related substances and heart rate variability were measured in forty students enrolled in the practice. While there was no significant increase in stress‑related substances during the practice, significantly increased sympathetic activities were observed at the beginning of the tests. Moreover, the plasma cortisol measured before the tests showed a significant positive correlation to the students’ self‑confidence scores, indicating the students, especially those with higher self‑confidence scores, were anxious for upcoming tests with unfamiliar subjects. Once the tests began, they felt relieved in theprocedures they had learned repeatedly. On the other hand, while the average plasma ACTH decreased significantly during the test, the ACTH secretion correlated positively to the test duration, indicating that the skillful participants had less stress during the test. In the medical‑related practices, pre‑training on how to deal with unfamiliar subjects may be helpful for reducing the stress of the trainees, in addition to the procedure itself.journal articl
Development of a New Eye Movement Measurement Device Using Eye-Tracking Analysis Technology
Get PDF論文(Article)Smooth pursuit eye movements and saccadic eye movements are vital for precise vision. Therefore, tests for eye movement are important for assessing nervous or muscular diseases. However, objective measurements are not frequently performed due to the need for a polygraph system, electrodes, amplifier, and personal computer for data analysis. To address this, we developed an all-in-one eye- movement-measuring device that simultaneously presents visual stimuli, records eye positions, and examines its feasibility for evaluating eye movements. This device generates stimulus that induces eye movements and records those movements continuously. The horizontal or vertical eye movements of 16 participants were measured at various visual target speeds of 20–100 deg/s. The maximum cross-correlation coefficient (rho max) between the eye and visual target positions was used as an index of eye movement accuracy. A repeated-measures multi-way analysis of variance was performed, with the main effect being that rho max significantly decreased as the visual target speed increased. The average (±standard deviation) rho max values across all velocities were 0.995 ± 0.008 and 0.967 ± 0.062 in the horizontal and vertical directions, respectively, and were significantly higher for horizontal eye movements than for vertical eye movements. Moreover, rho max and saccadic frequency were significantly correlated for the slowest and fastest visual target motions. These suggest that our device enables accurate measurements of eye movements. We believe our new measurement device can be applied clinically for easily and objectively evaluating eye movements.journal articl
新潟県内の行政とNPOとの協働環境の整理と課題 ― 自治基本条例と協働環境に関する調査結果からの考察 ―
Get PDF地域住民の多様化するニーズを満たしたり、自発的かつ主体的に地方自治に参加・参画したりする手段として、行政とNPO等との協働の重要性が増している。そこで、本稿では、新潟県内の市町村を対象に、制度や仕組みなどの協働を促進するための環境の整備状況を自治基本条例の制定状況と協働環境調査結果を元に整理した。その結果、条例は14市町村で制定されていたものの、人口が少ない市町村で制定が進んでいないことと、新潟県と新潟市では一定程度の環境整備が進んでいるものの、県では庁内の推進体制が、市では市民とのコミュニケーションにおいて協働の仕組みの整備が進んでいないことが明らかになった。departmental bulletin pape
