The paper deals with the participation of Italian troops in the operation “Barbarossa” during WW2, alongside the Wehrmacht. The reasons which led Mussolini to get into the war against the Soviet Union have been examined, as well the consequences of the Russian campaign on the Italian domestic politics. The study is based on archival sources, in particular on the documents of the Russian State Archive of Socio-Political History (RGASPI), Central Archive of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (TsA FSB RF), Archives of the Historical Office Branch of the Army General Staff (AUSSME), and on Russian, Anglo-Saxon and Italian historiographies

Real-Time Detection of Urban Atmospheric Micro–Nanoplastics and Their Chemical Mixing State Using Bioaerosol Single-Particle Mass Spectrometry
Atmospheric micro–nanoplastics (MNPs) serve as key vectors for the global dispersion of plastic pollutants and act as reactive interfaces for atmospheric species, modifying their physicochemical properties and influencing environmental transport dynamics. However, existing methods lack the temporal resolution and specificity to characterize MNP mixing states and pollutant interactions in real time. To address this gap, we developed an innovative approach employing bioaerosol single-particle mass spectrometry (Bio-SPAMS) for simultaneous detection of polystyrene MNPs (PS MNPs; 0.3–2 μm) and their chemical associations with co-pollutants. Three diagnostic tracer ions,91[C7H7+],104[C8H8+], and115[C9H7+], were identified as unambiguous markers of PS MNPs, enhancing their discrimination from ambient aerosols. Field measurements in a Chinese megacity revealed that PS MNPs constitute 1.04% of total aerosols (n = 51 045 particles), predominantly within the 0.3–0.8 μm size range. Approximately 76.4% of PS MNPs exhibited co-detection of nitrate and sulfate signatures, and in particles with PS characteristics, the relative peak areas of nitrate and sulfate are 14.30 and 4.06%, respectively, demonstrating active atmospheric aging via secondary pollutant uptake. This work established a new methodology for real-time MNP tracking in atmospheric matrices, providing critical insights into their lifecycle and risks
Designing, Developing, and Evaluating a Stakeholder-Informed Mobile App to Promote Physical Activity in Children
Background: Prolonged sedentary behavior and associated obesity are recognized risk factors for poor health across the lifespan. Globally, data show that many children and adolescents aged 5 to 17 significantly increased their sedentary behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic, failing to meet recommended physical activity levels and reporting increased smartphone use. While mobile devices and video games have been traditionally linked to physical inactivity, formats like exergaming, which combine gameplay with gross motor activity, offer potential to promote physical activity. However, many digital health tools for children are developed without incorporating feedback from key stakeholders and end-users (e.g., children, teachers, and guardians). Therefore, this paper, within the Walk around the Earth (E-Walk) project, describes a prospective study that aims (1) to identify the most influential factors or characteristics affecting engagement with and usability of a mobile application promoting physical activity among primary school students; (2) to develop a mobile application for children based on the identified factors and characteristics. Methods: This project will use a group concept mapping approach to identify the most influential features/factors/characteristics affecting engagement with and usability of an app. By involving primary stakeholders (e.g., children, teachers, guardians, and physical activity experts), the project seeks to align the app’s features with primary end-user needs and motivations. Following the app’s development, its effectiveness in increasing physical activity levels and reducing sedentary behaviors will be evaluated through a mixed-method design, incorporating anthropometric data, validated physical activity questionnaires (Physical Activity Questionnaire for Older Children (PAQ-C) and International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ)), and engagement metrics. Conclusions: The E-Walk project integrates participatory design with educational content and activity-based challenges, representing a multidimensional strategy for promoting health and learning in primary school students. Ultimately, this study contributes to the development of user-informed digital interventions that support sustainable behavioral changes, in line with broader goals of child well-being and digital health promotion
Infection events in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma with anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody-based first line regimens: A multicentric Italian experience
Multiple myeloma (MM) is a malignancy characterized by the clonal proliferation of plasma cells. It accounts for approximately 1% of all cancers and is the second most common hematologic malignancy after lymphoma. Infections represent a major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM), contributing to approximately 45% of early deaths, particularly in elderly individuals and during the initial months of therapy. Current treatment options for MM, including anti-CD38 monoclonal antibodies (CD38 mAbs), proteasome inhibitors, immunomodulatory drugs (such as lenalidomide and thalidomide), and glucocorticoids, have significantly improved clinical outcomes in NDMM patients. However, these therapies are associated with an increased risk of infections. Daratumumab (Dara), an anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody, is a key component of modern MM treatment and is approved for both NDMM and relapsed/refractory MM (RRMM). While Dara has improved patient outcomes, it has also altered the frequency and epidemiology of infections in this population. We conducted a retrospective analysis of 472 NDMM patients treated with Dara-containing regimens at 10 centers of the European Myeloma Network Italy (EMN-I) between 2020 and 2023 to assess the incidence of infectious events (IEs). Among these patients, 148 (31.3%) experienced infectious complications during therapy. No significant differences in infection rates were observed across the three treatment subgroups analyzed. In our experience, the addition of Dara during the induction phase did not increase the frequency, severity, or duration of infections in any of the three cohorts. Although the difference was not statistically significant, we observed an earlier onset of infections in the D-VTD group compared to the others. Further studies are needed to better define the incidence of infections in this patient population and to identify risk factors for infection. This may also inform the role of prophylactic strategies in the clinical management of NDMM
Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education: A Research Pathway with ChatGPT for Learning Design, Feedback, and Professional Development
This paper explores a research pathway that leverages an AI-based conversational tool, ChatGPT - OpenAI, to enhance essential competencies in future teachers and educators, with a focus on self-reflection and feedback literacy. Conducted within two pedagogical courses, the activity involved peer feedback on didactic design tasks, fostering students’ agency and metacognitive reflection. By using ChatGPT as both a design and feedback agent, students evaluated its effectiveness, strengths, and limitations. Reflective questionnaires allowed them to assess the tool’s potential integration into their future professional practices, addressing the broader applicability of AI in educational contexts

Demographics and clinical burden of disease among RSV-hospitalized older adults in Italy: A retrospective cohort study
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a leading cause of acute respiratory infection and can lead to severe disease in older adults or those with comorbidities. This analysis aims to evaluate the demographic and clinical burden of RSV hospitalizations among older adults in Italy and inform potential preventative strategies. Adults aged ≥50 years with ≥1 hospitalization discharge diagnosis for RSV from 2010 to 2021 were included. Demographic characteristics before the first RSV hospitalization and clinical outcomes during this hospitalization and the 12 months following are described. Of the 243 patients, mean (SD) age was 73.7 (13.1) years, 40.7% were male, and the most common comorbidities were chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (37.9%), diabetes (21.8%), and heart failure (15.2%). Mean length of index hospitalization was 17.0 days, during which 9.1% of patients died. At index or during the 12-month follow-up, 5.8% had an intensive care unit admission, 61.3% were prescribed antibiotics, 8.2% had a stroke, and 3.3% had an acute myocardial infarction. During the 12-month follow-up, approximately, half of patients experienced worsening of preexisting comorbidities, with notable rates of re-hospitalization and mortality (44.4% and 29.6%). This study shows a high clinical burden of RSV among older adults in Italy, emphasizing a need for improved RSV surveillance, and may guide policymakers and healthcare providers in making informed recommendations for, and implementation of, RSV vaccination in Italy
