A conceptual impact model of digital support for student self-regulation and emotion regulation grounded in self-determination theory
We present a conceptual impact model illustrating how digital tools can facilitate the fulfillment of basic psychological needs, autonomy, competence and relatedness, which in turn may foster improvements in self-regulation and emotion regulation. The model incorporates features of digital tools such as personalized learning paths, real-time feedback mechanisms, progress tracking, reward systems, gamification, targeted interventions and community support, illustrating how these elements address one or more basic psychological needs. These are further complemented by AI-specific mechanisms such as adaptivity, intelligent feedback and automated social presence. The model demonstrates that fulfilling the need for competence and autonomy may influence self-regulation, while relatedness-emotion regulation, which can consequently enhance mental health. Learner traits, such as computational thinking abilities, alongside contextual factors like technical infrastructure, shape how students engage with and benefit from digital tools. The claims and future directions are discussed
Macro-Founded Machine Learning Models for Power Market Price Trend Detection
The paper explores the development of a trading strategy in the power market using Artificial Intelligence algorithms to exploit potential information from a large set of indicators. The first part of the document relies on feature construction, analyzing key market factors such as gas storage capacity, withdrawals, and injections to define macroeconomic regimes. The second part introduces additional complexity either testing the granger-causal relationship between gas flow and futures contract returns, either considering temperature-related variables and weather shocks features to expand the training input space of the Machine Learning (ML) models. Finally, the study presents an out-of-sample simulation, comparing ML model performances with a naïve-long only strategy
Rotatable phononic crystal with multiresonant scatterers for acoustica switching applications
This study presents an acoustic switch based on a sonic crystal (SC) with multiresonant scatterers arranged in a square 2D lattice. The scatterers feature Helmholtz res-
onators (HRs) tuned to different frequencies. A 90° rotation of all scatterers enables switching the interaction between Bragg bandgaps (Bragg- BGs) and Helmholtz res-
onator (HR) bandgaps, creating selective frequency filtering and wave propagation control. The research targets low to mid frequencies (500-2500 Hz), an underexplored
range in current studies. The structure, made via costeffective 3D printing without infill to reduce absorption, is both simple and practical. Tests in an anechoic chamber
reveal a notable 20 dB contrast in acoustic insulation. This design offers potential applications in noise reduction for urban and industrial settings, adaptive acoustic systems,
sensors, and acoustic energy harvesting
The Affective Neuroscience Personality Scale-Short Form (ANPS-SF): Validation and Adaptation of the Italian Version on Clinical and Non-Clinical Samples of Adolescents and Young Adults
The Affective Neuroscience theory identifies seven neurobiological systems (SEEK, CARE, PLAY, SADNESS, FEAR, ANGER, and LUST) that are phylogenetically and ontogenetically determined, shared by all mammals, and localized in ancient subcortical brain regions. These systems, influenced by genetic and environmental factors, shape individual differences. A new instrument, the Affective Neuroscience Personality Scale (ANPS), was created to measure the expression of these primary emotional systems, foundational to human personality. A short version, the ANPS-SF, has been released but not validated in Italy. This study aimed to adapt and validate the ANPS-SF by examining its psychometric properties. A large sample of clinical and non-clinical young adults and adolescents (n = 827) also completed instruments assessing external validity, including the Big Five Inventory (BFI) and others. Results indicated that the ANPS-SF possesses satisfactory psychometric properties, highlighted by strong internal consistency and correlations with other measures. A two-higher-order-factors solution was identified, revealing General Positive Affect and General Negative Affect. Significant differences were noted between clinical and non-clinical groups, as well as across age and gender. Overall, the ANPS-SF can be effectively utilized in Italy, providing insights into primary emotional systems and their interaction with individual characteristics, relevant for both clinical and non-clinical populations

Efficacy of dietary modifications and mucosal protectors in the treatment of laryngopharyngeal reflux: a multicenter study
Background: Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is defined as an extraesophageal reflux of gastroduodenal contents to the laryngopharynx, affecting the upper aerodigestive tract. There is currently no standardised treatment protocol for LPR. The use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) is widely established in common practice and derives from the standard approach of using PPIs to treat patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). However, as PPIs may not be effective on all types of reflux, our study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of dietary changes and mucosal protectants, alone or in combination, in LPR treatment.
Methods: This multicenter randomised controlled trial included 48 patients divided into three groups: dietary modifications only, mucosal protectors only, and a combination of both. The patients’ responses were assessed over 1 month using the Reflux Symptom Index (RSI) and Reflux Finding Score (RFS), along with measurements of salivary and nasal pepsin concentration and rhinomanometry.
Results: Significant improvements were observed in RSI and RFS scores across all groups. The group receiving combined dietary modifications and mucosal protectors showed the most substantial benefits. Additionally, a notable reduction in salivary and nasal pepsin concentrations and nasal resistances was observed, particularly in patients combining dietary modifications and mucosal protectors.
Conclusion: The study showed that combined dietary modifications and mucosal protective strategies effectively manage LPR symptoms, offering a potential therapeutic approach
