Pickersgill’in akıllı cihazları kadrajından silikleştirerek ürettiği görüntüler, akıllı cihazlar icat edilmeden önce benzer hallerin yaşanıp yaşanmadığına dair bir merak uyandırmaktadır. Çalışmanın temel hedefi, sosyal medya çağında sıklıkla karşılaşılan soyutlanmışlık hallerini Eric Pickersgill’in fotoğrafları aracılığıyla yabancılaşma bağlamında ele almak ve bu projeyi Martin Parr’ın Bored Couples adlı fotoğraf projesiyle karşılaştırarak yabancılaşma hallerinin akıllı cihazların icadından önce de yaşanıp yaşanmadığını sorgulamaktır. Amaçlı örneklemle seçilen fotoğraf projeleri doküman analizi yöntemiyle incelenmiş ve Marx’ın yabancılaşmayı ele aldığı toplumsal yaklaşımı bağlamında karşılaştırılmıştır. Fotoğraflar arasında göze çarpan bazı önemli benzerlikler sonucunda, sosyal medya çağı öncesi ve süresince ortaya çıkan soyutlanma hallerinin, bireyin kendisine ve çevresine yabancılaşmasıyla ilişkilendirilebileceğine dair önemli ipuçlarına ulaşılmıştır
Respiratory muscle strength in stroke: a case-control study
AIM: The aim of the study was to determine the respiratory muscle strength of stroke patients and compare them with healthy individuals. METHOD: The study was conducted with 171 patients who had a stroke between 2017 and 2021 and 32 healthy controls. Respiratory muscle strength and inspiratory and expiratory mouth pressure (MIP and MEP) were measured using the portable MicroRPM device (Micro Medical, Basingstoke, UK). RESULTS: The stroke group exhibited significantly lower values in both MIP for men (p<0.001) and women (p=0.013) and maximal expiratory pressure for men (p<0.001) and women (p=0.042), compared with the healthy control group. Notably, there was a significant difference in the MIPmen (p=0.026) and MEPmen (p=0.026) values when comparing the reference values, which were calculated based on age and sex, with those of the healthy group. The baseline values calculated according to age for stroke patients were as follows: MIPmen 31.68%, MIPwomen 63.58%, MEPmen 22.54%, and MEPwomen 42.30%. CONCLUSION: This study highlights the significant respiratory muscle weakness experienced by stroke patients, with gender-specific differences. It highlights the importance of incorporating respiratory assessments and interventions into stroke rehabilitation protocols to improve the overall health and well-being of stroke patient
Mechanical strength and low-velocity impact behavior of glass fiber reinforced filament wound pipes with different number of layers after hydrothermal aging
Composite pipe is preferred over metal and other materials for water supply, liquid chemical transport, and fuel and gas transport. This is because composite pipes are more corrosion resistant, have a high strength/density ratio, high stiffness/ density ratio, and more durable than metal pipes. The properties of the composite pipes employed may differ based on the operating environment. Therefore, determining the properties of the composite pipe according to the working environment is extremely important for its lifespan. The thickness of the samples is increased in line with different needs (such as increased strength). Increasing the thickness of samples, especially those exposed to different environmental conditions, and investigating the changes that will occur in the physical and mechanical properties of the samples are another important situation. In this investigation, glass fiber (GFRP) reinforced epoxy composite pipes have been examined, which were manufactured using the filament winding method with different layers [±55°]. To determine their properties in different working environments, the GFRP composite pipes were subjected to hydrothermal aging in pure water at 80°C for several days (7, 14, 21, and 28). The changes in their mechanical properties under working conditions were determined through hoop tensile strength tests and low velocity impact tests applied at different energy levels. The experimental results show that the tangential stress values increased by 10.59% as the number of layers increased. As the aging time increased, the durability of the 6-layer composite pipe decreased by 17.69%. Furthermore, the ability of the aged pipes to withstand damage was evaluated, revealing that the aging process exacerbated the damage within the pipes
Investigation of superconductivity of A15 type cubic Nb3Os material by using density functional theory
In this study, the structural, elastic, electronic, phonon and electron-phonon interaction properties of A15 type cubic Nb3Os compound were investigated by density functional theory. The lattice constant of this compound was obtained in agreement with experiments, and the investigation of elastic properties revealed its ductile nature. From electronic calculations for Nb3Os, the density of states at Fermi level (N(EF)) was found to be 5.31 states/eV with the largest contribution of Nb 4d orbitals. According to the results obtained from phonon calculations, Nb3Os was found to be dynamically stable in the cubic A15 structure and phonon modes were largely formed by the vibrations of Nb atoms. Using the electronic and phonon properties, we determined the Eliashberg spectral function, which illustrates the electron-phonon interaction. The electron-phonon interaction parameter and average phonon frequency values for Nb3Os were found to be 0.41 and 222.97 K, respectively. The calculated superconducting transition temperature of 1.05 K is in excellent agreement with the experimental value of 1.02 K
Chaotic-Based Improved Henry Gas Solubility Optimization Algorithm: Application to Electric Motor Control
This study presents a novel meta-heuristic optimization method that combines the Henry Gas Solubility Optimization (HGSO) technique with symmetric chaotic systems. By leveraging the randomness of chaotic systems, the parameters of the HGSO algorithm that require random generation are produced through chaotic processes, allowing the algorithm to exhibit chaotic behavior in its pursuit of optimal values. This innovative approach is termed Chaotic Henry Gas Solubility Optimization (CHGSO), with the primary objective of enhancing the performance of the HGSO method. The randomness of the data obtained from chaotic systems was validated using NIST-800-22 tests. The CHGSO method was applied to both 47 benchmark functions and the optimization of parameters for a PID controller utilized in the speed control of a DC motor. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method, it was compared with several widely recognized algorithms in the literature, including PSO, WOA, GWO, EA, SA, and the original HGSO algorithm. The results demonstrate that the proposed method achieved the best performance in 43 of the benchmark functions, outperforming the other algorithms. In the context of controller design, the PID parameters were optimized using the error-based ITSE objective function. According to the controller responses, the proposed method has achieved the best results in the simulation studies, with a settling time of 0.035 and a rise time of 0.014 without overshooting, and in the experimental studies, with a settling time of 0.15 and a settling time of 1.4%. When the results are examined, it is observed that it has achieved successful results in the controller design problem. © 2024 by the authors

A New Approach for Super Resolution Object Detection Using an Image Slicing Algorithm and the Segment Anything Model
: Object detection in high resolution enables the identification and localization of objects for monitoring critical areas with precision. Although there have been improvements in object detection at high resolution, the variety of object scales, as well as the diversity of backgrounds and textures in high-resolution images, make it challenging for detectors to generalize successfully. This study introduces a new method for object detection in high-resolution images. The pre-processing stage of the method includes ISA and SAM to slice the input image and segment the objects in bounding boxes, respectively. In order to improve the resolution in the slices, the first layer of YOLO is designed as SRGAN. Thus, before applying YOLO detection, the resolution of the sliced images is increased to improve features. The proposed system is evaluated on xView and VisDrone datasets for object detection algorithms in satellite and aerial imagery contexts. The success of the algorithm is presented in four different YOLO architectures integrated with SRGAN. According to comparative evaluations, the proposed system with Yolov5 and Yolov8 produces the best results on xView and VisDrone datasets, respectively. Based on the comparisons with the literature, our proposed system produces better results
Changes in Quality Characteristics of Strawberry Tree (Arbutus unedo L.) Fruit Packed with Perforated Polyethylene Terephthalate During Cold Storage
This study evaluated the effects of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) treatments with different numbers of holes on the preservation of strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo L.) fruit. For this purpose, PET treatments with different holes were evaluated for respiration rate, weight loss, color (L*, a*, and b*) changes, soluble solids content (SSC), titratable acidity (TA), vitamin C, total phenolics, total flavonoids, antioxidant activity (DPPH and FRAP), and individual phenolics. Analysis has shown that weight loss increases as storage time increases. It has been determined that PET 2 treatment is more effective than PET 1 in terms of weight loss and respiratory rate. During the storage, TA and SSC were lower in PET 2, while the vitamin C content was higher. It was determined that PET treatments had different effects on color parameters, total phenolics, and total flavonoids. Particularly in the PET 2, total flavonoids and DPPH activity was significantly higher during storage. It has been determined that catechin is the major content in strawberry tree fruit, which increases in both treatments with the progress of cold storage. When the 10 individual phenolics examined were evaluated, storage time and PET treatments had different effects. The significant effect of PET treatments continued only for epicatechin and protocatechuic acid during storage. As a result, it has been shown that PET 2 treatment is more effective in preserving fruit quality and nutritional values
Leisure constraints among Turkish families: a multi-level approach
Despite the increase in the number of recreational facilities in Turkey, participation in leisure activities is still low. It is essential to understand the reasons behind the lack of participation in leisure activities to build better programs. The purpose of this research is to analyze the influence of leisure constraints and motivation on the intention to participate in physical and social leisure activities among Turkish families. Data were collected from a total of 420 individuals from 122 families. Hierarchical Linear Modelling was applied to analyze the data at both the individual and family levels. Results showed that while motivation has a significant influence on constraints and intention, constraints do not influence intention. The significance of the relationships on the family level revealed the influence of family members on each other with regards to motivation, constraints, and intention. The results also supported that study participants prefer social activities over physical ones
Nature relatedness, flow experience, and environmental behaviors in nature-based leisure activities
Introduction: Through nature-based leisure activities, spending time in nature offers opportunities to reduce stress, relax the mind, and enhance feelings of well-being. Being aware of the benefits provided by these activities increases the nature relatedness, and during the time spent in nature, it enables experiencing positive and satisfying moments by entering into a state of flow. The concepts of nature-relatedness and flow experience represent psychological experiences and characteristics that play an important role in enhancing psychological well-being and life quality. Methods: Based on structural equation models, the relationships among nature-relatedness, flow experience, and environmental behaviors were investigated. Data were collected from 379 individuals (212 male, 167 female) who regularly engage in nature-based leisure activities such as cycling, hiking, and fishing. The participants were predominantly male (55.9%) and aged 45 years and over (53.3%). Results: The nature-relatedness significantly influences flow experience (R2 = 0.505, p < 0.01), environmental behavior (R2 = 0.108, p < 0.01), environmental sensitivity (R2 = 0.137, p < 0.01), and communication with nature (R2 = 0.200, p < 0.01). Specifically, nature-relatedness directly enhanced environmental sensitivity (0.494 total effect), environmental behavior (0.604 total effect), and communication with nature (0.599 total effect) and did so both directly and indirectly through the mediation of flow experience. Discussion: A higher level of nature-relatedness can lead to a stronger flow experience, which in turn can increase positive. environmental behavior, environmental sensitivity, and communication with nature.
