    No full text
Additive Manufacturing (AM), and in particular the Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) process, offers new opportunities for producing large, complex metallic components by combining high deposition rates with design flexibility. Within this framework, the present study focuses on the application of WAAM for the fabrication of hollow marine propeller blades made from copper-aluminium alloys. Despite the advantages of the process, the fatigue performance of WAAM-produced parts remains limited, primarily due to the surface integrity inherent to the as-built condition. This limitation is the central focus of the research, which aims to develop suitable post-processing treatments-namely hammer peening and water jet finishing-adapted to complex geometries, including internal cavities. The ultimate goal is to incorporate the effects of these treatments into a fatigue design methodology tailored to WAAM components. The study begins by characterizing the effects of the post-processing treatments on surface microstructure, topography, and residual stress distributions. This is followed by a high-cycle fatigue test campaign on specimens in as-built and postprocessed states, with infrared thermography employed to monitor crack initiation and propagation. Finally, a predictive fatigue life model is developed and calibrated based on thermographic data, then enhanced using the characterization results to enable accurate fatigue life prediction of post-processed WAAM components.

The components making up the hot parts of aero-engines are subjected to severe thermomechanical stresses, particularly of the vibratory type. In this context, it is essential to improve fatigue design methods for high and very high cycle fatigue, a process that remains long and very costly. However, the self-heating method, which is based on measuring the cyclic dissipation of a specimen, can considerably reduce characterization times. The aim of this work is to propose test methods for temperatures approaching 1000°C, which represents a considerable experimental challenge. Two nickel-based superalloys are being studied. INCONEL 718, a polycrystalline alloy, is tested up to a temperature of 650°C. The HCF Properties of this material are rapidly characterized using self-heating measurements and a two-scale probabilistic model. AM1, the studied single-crystal superalloy, is tested up to 950°C. In order to characterize the effects of frequency on its dissipative behavior, a self-heating test protocol at 20 kHz is proposed. In order to evaluate the results, a method is needed to solve the 1D heat equation associated with the problem. To this end, a numerical method based on FOURIER transforms is implemented. In addition, the influence of different parameters on the dissipative behavior of this SX superalloy is characterized, and a single self-heating regime is observed. However, some useful perspectives to study the fatigue properties of this family of materials are proposed.

Punch in a Punch: Validating FLC and fracture models for severe strain path changes

    No full text
International audienceWhile generating experimental linear loading strain paths is still required for the identification of Forming and Fracture Limit Curves, non-linear loading paths are necessary to validate models for industrial applications. Commonly non-linear loading paths are achieved by interrupting oversized uniaxial or biaxial tensile experiments and extracting pre-strained specimens for further forming or fracture testing. Due to the inherent multiple manufacturing steps, this method is challenging to automate, which denies the generation of large datasets for deep analysis. The present study demonstrates that severely non-linear loading paths can be obtained in a high-throughput manner from a single specimen by means of a telescopic forming approach—specifically, a punch-in-a-punch system—within an automated Nakazima setup. Two steels and two aluminium alloys are tested, each using sets of seven Nakazima specimens, subjected to a two-step forming process. The first step is an interrupted Marciniak forming test. The displacement is then stopped and held while a secondary piston is moved out of the Marciniak punch's inner part, effectively generating a second loading path

International audienceBasic and translational research in lung cancer is a rapidly evolving field with a transformational impact on early detection, diagnosis, therapeutic development, and personalization of care. Recent advances have greatly increased our understanding of the molecular genomics, proteomics, pathogenesis, and cellular biology of this deadly malignancy. The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) recently formed a Basic and Translational Science (BaTS) Committee to further enhance the scientific leadership of IASLC in thoracic cancer research. This review by members of the committee highlights the breadth of current research in NSCLC, with a focus on molecular risk factors and processes in tumorigenesis, heterogeneity, phenotypic plasticity, metabolic reprogramming, immunobiology, the immune microenvironment, and microbiome. This review also identifies future research areas that may lead to further improvement in survival outcomes and curative therapies especially for patients with advanced NSCLC

Beyond the co-creating tourist: The role of the artist in experiential value in creative tourism

    No full text
International audienceCreative tourism asserts itself as a sustainable and culturally vibrant alternative to mass tourism, by prioritizing the active engagement of visitors, through workshops, learning, and authentic encounters, and by promoting exchange, the co-creation and strengthening of social ties with local communities. Yet, the foundations of experiential value creation within creative workshops remain insufficiently understood, particularly with regard to the contribution of local artist-artisans. Indeed, existing research mainly focuses on co-creation from the tourists' point of view, analyzing their experiences, perceptions and interactions, while often leaving aside the active and strategic role of artists-local artisans in the structuring and enrichment of this experiential value. To explore this, a methodological triangulation was adopted, combining twenty-four interviews with Tunisian artist-craftsmen, twenty-four interviews with domestic and international tourists, six interviews with organizers and sixteen participant observations. The results show that the artist acts as a catalyst for the experience, promoting learning, self-confidence and positive emotions. It reinforces authenticity and cultural anchoring, values intangible heritage and supports local development. This research enriches the literature on creative tourism by showing that cocreation relies on the interaction orchestrated by the artist, integrating aesthetic, relational and narrative dimensions. It also reveals that the artist structures technical, emotional and identity learning, highlighting the importance of considering him as a co-designer and valuing his skills to create authentic and culturally engaging experiences

International audienceThe Ideal Museum of the Journal Histoire, Médecine et SantéWhat would the ideal medical museum look like according to the members of the journal Histoire, médecine et santé? As historians, we reflect on what such a space could be—a place bringing together multiple narratives, shaped by the epistemological and methodological shifts in the history of medicine, while also responding to the expectations of the public. Drawing especially on the thematic issues published by the journal since its inception in 2012, we offer a collective reflection on the museum experience—from sensory approaches to participatory engagement—exploring its spatial and playful dimensions. We also question what aspects of medicine have their place in the museum, from objects to concepts, suggesting several thematic paths: moving beyond the healthcare professionnal/patient dichotomy to focus on encounters and circulation; presenting a scenography of care combining instruments, remedies, and gestures; rethinking the place of bodies and patients; confronting medicine with processes of normalization, ethical debates, and scandals that shake society.¿Cuál sería el museo de medicina ideal para los miembros de la revista Histoire, médecine et santé?
