    No full text

    No full text
International audienceThe aim of the study is to identify periods of dietary change during parenthood. Five phases of a parental dietary journey have been identified, highlighting the distinct roles played by parents at each stage of the parental journey, the markers of transition, and the periods when healthy eating is a key phase in fulfilling their protective, motivational, and educational roles.L’objectif de l’étude est d’identifier les périodes d’évolution alimentaire au cours de la parentalité.

Heterogeneous testing model calibration as input to virtual forming of dual phase steels

    No full text
International audienceThe mechanical characterization of materials, such as advanced high strength steels, typically requires a series of quasi-homogeneous mechanical tests, necessitating the use of multiple specimens to fully reproduce the large range of strain states characteristics of forming processes. Recent studies have shown that heterogeneous testing can provide enough data in a single test to cover several strain states, providing an alternative way. The design and choice of the heterogeneous test is still a matter of investigation and validation of the model calibration in virtual forming is needed. The aim of this study is to calibrate a mechanical model for a dual phase steel from heterogeneous test data. The material was provided as sheets of 0.8 mm thickness. Experiments were carried out using a specimen designed by a topology-based optimization, exhibiting a complex shape and a variety of strain states. A finite element model updating method is used to calibrate an anisotropic hardening plasticity model. Then, the study explores the practical relevance of these parameters in a forming application, in the case of the Material-Under-Control (MUC)-Test and a cup drawing process. The strain and stress states of the heterogeneous and the forming processes are analysed. The focus of the study is to compare numerical predictions of the forming processes obtained either using material parameters identified from the heterogeneous test or with quasi-homogeneous tests

Experimental and Numerical Study of an Oscillating Foil Near the Free Surface

    No full text
International audienceThis work presents experimental and numerical results to study the performances of an actively pitching and heaving NACA0015 hydrofoil near the free surface, as a biomimetic propulsion system for ships. The experiments are carried out in the IFREMER current and wave tank at Boulogne-sur-Mer for several heave and pitch amplitudes. The influence of the phase lag between the pitch and heave motions is also investigated, as well as the hydrofoil performances in regular waves. The experiments consists of forces measurements and they are compared with numerical predictions of the hydrodynamic forces using the potential flow code PUFFIn in its latest unsteady version. Comparisons with Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) calculations are presented for cases where the discrepancies between the potential code and experimental results are significant. Overall, the mean numerical forces exhibit similar trends to the experimental averages, validating the use of the potential flow code to optimize foil kinematics and design in ship propulsion applications

Wormhole formation in fluid-driven granular flow

    No full text
International audienceFluid-driven flow of granular material leads to complex behaviour and emergent instabilities in many natural and industrial settings. However, the effect of using fluid flow to vertically drive a dense bed of sedimenting grains is not well documented. Here we find contrasting behaviours in a submerged fluid-driven silo, including fingering patterns, porous flow, classical silo flow, and the formation of straight, semi-dilute wormhole-like channels. Once formed, these channels rapidly propagate towards the outlet and act as a bypass of the wider packing. The onset of this instability occurs when the gravity-driven grain flow at the free surface is insufficient to supply the fluid-assisted central region below the interface. Balancing empirical models of these flows predicts the height at which channels emerge as a function of grain size and flow rate. These findings provide a framework for predicting and controlling fluid-grain interactions in natural hazards, industrial processing, and geophysical flows

A recurrence formula in reciprocal frame structures: the Da Vinci bridge

    No full text
International audienceThis article studies a reciprocal system referred to as the “Da Vinci bridge” and first proposed by Leonardo Da Vinci in the Codex Atlanticus written in 1495. The concept of reciprocal systems consists in transferring forces using planar or elongated elements in such a way to form a closed circuit. Reciprocal systems are usually built from the repetition of a building block. In the case of the Da Vinci bridge, the building block is an assembly of four beams. This article uncovers a recurrence formula linking the number of building blocks to the reaction forces on the most loaded beams of the bridge. It is interesting to note that the recurrence formula differs if the system consists in an even or odd number of building blocks. The various hypotheses of the strength of material computations that led to the recurrence formula are validated by comparison with an experimental realization. This studies shows that, when designing reciprocal systems, an optimization has to be carried out in order to chose between using long beams or using a large number of building elements.
