Enhancing the Properties of Photo-Generated Metallized Nanocomposite Coatings through Thermal Annealing
International audienceIn this work, the effect of thermal annealing on silver nanoparticles@polymer (AgNPs@polymer) nanocomposite coatings was investigated. These photo-generated metallized coatings have a spatial distribution of metal nanoparticles, with a depth-wise decrease in their concentration. During annealing, both structural and morphological variations, as well as a spatial reorganization of AgNPs, were observed, both at the surface and in the core of the AgNPs@polymer coating. Owing to their increased mobility, the polymer chains reorganize spontaneously, and, at the same time, a hopping diffusion process, caused by the minimization of the surface energy, promotes the migration and coalescence of the silver nanoparticles towards the surface. The layer of discrete nanoparticles gradually transforms from a weakly percolative assembly to a denser and more networked structure. Consequently, the surface of the coatings becomes significantly more electrically conductive, hydrophobic, and reflective. The general trend is that the thinner the nanohybrid coating, the more pronounced the effect of thermal annealing on its spatial reorganization and properties. These results open up interesting prospects in the field of metallized coating technology and pave the way for integration into a wide variety of devices, e.g., efficient and inexpensive reflectors for energy-saving applications, electrically conductive microdevices, and printed electronic microcircuits
Introduction
International audienceThe texts gathered here endeavour to shed light on the problem of the supposed divide between the sciences and the humanities, while at the same time opening the door to a future and potential sequel. The book is in three parts, and follows a certain logic that begins with a general question about the meaning to be given to descriptions of the sciences in words, and the power of these same words - Belles-Lettres as they were called in the Renaissance - to speak of the sciences in all their diversity. The first part of the volume looks at the meaning of words that is needed to put the sciences down on paper: ‘making sense, making science’. The second part of the volume shows the bridges that can be built between science and history. The final section brings together literature and science: from Italian and French detective novels to Comorian literature, via seventeenth-century letters.Translated with www.
Understanding the impact of kaolinite/muscovite ratio in natural clays on oxide contents, physisorbed water, and structural water fractions
International audienceThe objective of the present work, is to comprehend the impact of two naturals non-swelling phyllosilicates, namely kaolinite/muscovite ratio, denoted as f(K/M), on the physicochemical properties of the sample. This includes oxide content as well as the fractions of physisorbed and the structural water. To achieve this, the adsorbed amount on the clay sample was assessed using the cationic surfactant (cetyltrimethyl ammonium chloride CTACl) by measuring the Streaming Induced Potential (SIP) at the Point of Zero Charge (PZC). Further, the physisorbed water and structural water losses present in the clay sample, were determined through DTA/TGA thermal analysis. In addition, the kaolinite/muscovite ratios, denoted as f(K/M), characterizing the samples, were calculated using the elemental compositions of various metal oxides as obtained via X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis
Palladium‐Catalyzed Regioselective Synthesis of 2‐SF 5 ‐Indenols and Further Derivatizations
International audienceAbstract A palladium‐catalyzed synthesis of 2‐SF 5 ‐indenols has been developed by reacting commercially available boronic acid derivatives and readily accessible SF 5 ‐alkynes. The present methodology is fully regioselective thanks to the intrinsic polarization of SF 5 ‐alkynes. A selection of downstream functionalizations has been performed to highlight the versatility of 2‐SF 5 ‐indenols and indenones as platforms for the design of more complex SF 5 ‐containing molecules
Comparing Conventional and Advanced Approaches for Heavy Metal Removal in Wastewater Treatment: An In-Depth Review Emphasizing Filter-Based Strategies
International audienceVarious industrial activities release heavy metal ions into the environment, which represent one of the major toxic pollutants owing to their severe effects on the environment, humans, and all living species. Despite several technological advances and breakthroughs, wastewater treatment remains a critical global issue. Traditional techniques are dedicated to extracting heavy metal ions from diverse wastewater origins, encompassing coagulation/flocculation, precipitation, flotation, and ion exchange. Their cost, side toxicity, or ineffectiveness often limit their large-scale use. Due to their adaptable design, simple operation, and reasonable cost, membrane filtration and adsorption have proven their efficiency in removing metals from wastewater. Recently, adsorption-based filters have appeared promising in treating water. Within this range, filters incorporating natural, synthetic, or hybrid adsorbents present an appealing alternative to conventional approaches. This review aims to list and describe the conventional and advanced wastewater treatment methods by comparing their efficiency, cost, and environmental impact. Adsorption-based filters were highlighted due to the significant advantages they can provide

A Zeolite-Templated Carbon Synthesized from Extralarge-Pore Zeolite ZEO-1
International audienceA new member of the zeolite-templated carbon (ZTC) family with unprecedented properties has been developed using extralarge-pore zeolite ZEO-1 (JZO) as a template. The resulting ZTC-JZO exhibits strong X-ray diffraction long-range order, replicating three distinct zeolite planes with different lattice spacings. By harnessing the enhanced micropore void volume in the ZEO-1 template, we achieved the first ZTC with a bimodal micropore size distribution, resulting in superior skeleton density and thickness. The ZTC-JZO presents high electrical conductivity and demonstrates improved electrocatalytic activity in the oxygen reduction reaction
