Controlling conjugated polymer morphology by precise oxygen position in single-ether side chains
International audienceRecently, polar side chains have emerged as a functional tool to enhance conjugated polymer doping properties by improving the polymer miscibility with polar chemical dopants and facilitate solvated ion uptake. In this work, we design and investigate a novel family of side chains containing a single ether function, enabling the modulation of the oxygen atom position along the side chain. A meticulous investigation of this new polymer series by differential scanning calorimetry, fast scanning chip calorimetry and X-ray scattering shows that polymers bearing single-ether side chains can show high degree of crystallinity under proper conditions. Importantly, due to a gauche effect allowing the side chain to bend at the oxygen atom, the degree of crystallinity of polymers can be controlled by the position of the oxygen atom along the side chain. The further the oxygen atom is from the conjugated backbone, the more crystalline the polymer becomes. In addition, for all new polymers, high thermomechanical properties are demonstrated, leading to remarkable electrical conductivities and thermoelectric power factors in rub-aligned and sequentially doped thin films. This work confirms the potential of single-ether side chains to be used as polar solubilizing side chains for the design of a next generation of p- and n-type semiconducting polymers with increased affinity to polar dopants while maintaining high molecular order
Spatial distribution of the photopolymerization induced by localized surface plasmons: impact of the morphology of the Au nanoparticles
The analysis of the local distribution of the electric field, induced by localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), is crucial for selecting the morphology of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) for specific applications. The reported study is based on an LSPR-induced near-field two-photon photopolymerization (NF2P) reaction. The initiation of NF2P is triggered by LSPR-enhanced near-field light, while in the far-field, oxygen inhibits this reaction. The spatial extent of the NF2P reaction is compared to the local electric field distribution depending on AuNP morphologies, established by numerical simulations. Overall, our results demonstrate that the photopolymerization is not only driven by the local near-field enhancement but also strongly depends on the topologies of nano-object, and the photopolymerization extension was more confined in anisotropic and sharp structures compared to isotropic ones. Additionally, we showcased its capability to confine polymerization reactions within nanoscale volumes with the possibility of controlling the localization of polymer lobes at a single triangle apex, for instance, via light polarization
Fabrication and characterization of thin self-rolling film for anti-inflammatory drug delivery
International audienceThin films have been identified as an alternative approach for targeting sensitive site as drug delivery tool. In this work, the preparation of self-rolling thin films to form tubes for wound healing and easy placement (e.g. in the colon via colonoscopy) have been studied. We explored the use of thin films as a protective dressing combined to local release of an anti-inflammatory in order to improve drug efficacy and limit the side effects of the oral route. Non-cytotoxic poly(ethylene) glycol and poly(lactic acid) photo-crosslinkable star copolymers were used for rapid UV crosslinking of bilayered films loaded with prednisolone. The films, crosslinked under UV lamp without the need of photoinitiator, are optimized and compared in terms of water uptake, swelling ratio, final tube diameter and morphology, anti-inflammatory drug loading and release. Our studies showed the spontaneous rolling of bilayer constructs directly after immersion in water. Tubular geometry allows application of the patch through minimally invasive procedures such as colonoscopy. Moreover, the rolled-up bilayers highlighted efficient release of encapsulated drug following Fickian diffusion mechanism. We also confirmed the anti-inflammatory activity of the released anti-inflammatory drug that inhibits the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1β in RAW 264.7 macrophages stimulated by Escherichia coli (E. coli)
International audienceThe closure of the nuclear power plan questions the notions of energy and territorial transitions. Could this event be the trigger for a reconversion of the territory? And, if so, how do residents imagine it? This contribution aims to reveal spontaneous representations of a nuclearized territory, to measure the place of nuclear power in discourse and its scope of impact. The protocol was constructed so that local residents were an integral part of the scientific activity by involving them in the production of knowledge on their territory. The objective is to test their ability to tackle a question – post-nuclear – in order to analyse their representations of the territory’s issues in a particular context, that of the closure of a single nuclear industry on which an entire commune has built its development. We are testing this hypothesis with local residents in order to access the propensity to go beyond nuclear identity and to project themselves, via their local practices, into another history (whether industrial or not). The approach is innovative in two ways: on the one hand, it is interested in the denuclearization process and, on the other hand, it uses the perception-based regional mapping (PBRM) non-directive method, in order to understand how citizens represent the challenges of the territory after the closure of the plant, and if nuclear power lastingly marks the identity of a territory. To do this, it involves conducting cartographic interviews to reveal the perceived issues, the spirit of the places experienced as experienced by the site inhabitants.
Retraduction

An intelligent mechanism for energy consumption scheduling in smart buildings
International audienceIn recent years, the incorporation of sensing technology into residential buildings has given rise to the concept of ”smart buildings”, aimed at enhancing resident comfort. These buildings are typically part of interconnected neighborhoods sharing common energy sources, which makes the energy consumption a critical consideration in decision-making processes. Consequently, optimizing energy usage in smart buildings has posed significant challenges for both enterprises and governments, prompting numerous studies to address this issue. One such challenge is organizing energy usage within neighborhood networks while ensuring the user comfort and without exceeding the total energy capacity. In this paper, we present a novel mechanism that predicts the future behavior of each house based on its historical consumption data, generating a weekly schedule annotated with hourly energy usage levels (high, normal, or low) tailored to individual user needs. Additionally, we introduce an incentive-based program that rewards users with bill discounts for adhering to high energy consumption periods. The scheduling process involves extracting features from data and utilizing a genetic algorithm for construction, coupled with dynamic programming to enhance efficiency by storing house features and schedules. This enables rapid provision of suitable schedules for similar houses. Evaluation results demonstrate that the proposed technique achieves an accuracy of 92% and improves the execution time of the optimization algorithm by 26 %
