Self-aligned connection between two single mode fibers with a near infrared photopolymerization process

    No full text
National audienceIn this work, we developed a photochemical self-writing process that is easily applicable to VCSEL-to-fiber coupling as the writing wavelength is in the near range (850 nm) and thus directly matched to the mode to be transmitted. First results obtained on 780 HP fiber-to-fiber connection show a coupling efficiency as high as 82% for a distance of 300 µm, to be compared to only 18 % in the air and 33% in an index matching layer. Moreover, this value remains higher than 60 % for distances up to 500 µm, demonstrating that an efficient waveguide is effectively created

    No full text

    No full text
International audienceIn France, both high and medium-high mountains are concerned by avalanche risk, but this risk is occulted in the latter. This article analyses and explains the differentiated regional and national media discourses related to avalanche risk in these two types of mountain environments. Focused on news-oriented media (daily press and TV news), this study covers the period from post-World War II to 2014. Illustrated by the Vosges Mountains case study, it analyses the used images and semantic field. By showing images of alpine avalanches destroying everything in their paths, relating events in a dramatic way and using words highlighting their destructive potential, media participate to minimize “vosgian avalanches” and poorly contribute to a social construction of the avalanche risk in the Vosges Mountains. We demonstrate that this situation more widely relates to the existence of differentiated representations of high and medium-high Mountains.

Optimal Transport Model of Optical Flow Estimation: Constant and Varying Illumination Cases

    No full text
In this article, we consider a new modeling of optical flow estimation with constant or varying illumination based on mass optimal transport theory. While PDE classical approaches in motion analysis assume pixel-wise conservation of the intensity map along the flow of characteristics driven by the flow vector, the new formulation assumes a conservation of corresponding densities and yields a conservative transport equation encoding also the varying illumination. Namely, such variations are expressed as those of small volumes (of pixels) expressing compressibility constraint. When no variations of the illumination occur, we obtain an optimal transport generalized incompressible flow model more "rich" than classical ones. The model in this optimal transport approach offer a complete similarity to standard L² Monge-Kantorovich problem on mass transportation and generalized incompressible flows. We use the Benamou-Brenier algorithm for the optical flow computation. We present some numerical results and make some comparisons with more classical approaches to show the reliability of the optimal transport model, its perspectives and its limitations

E-beam Fluorinated CVD Graphene: in-situ XPS study on stability and NH3 adsorption doping effect

    No full text
International audienceAbstract Graphene exhibits promise in gas detection applications despite its limited selectivity. Functionalization with fluorine atoms offers a potential solution to enhance selectivity, particularly towards ammonia (NH+) molecules. This article presents a study on electron-beam fluorinated graphene (FG) and its integration into gas sensor platforms. We begin by characterizing the thermal stability of fluorographene, demonstrating its resilience up to 450°C. Subsequently, we investigate the nature of NH3 interaction with FG, exploring distinct adsorption energies to address preferential adsorption concerns. Notably, we introduce an innovative approach utilizing XPS cartography for simultaneous analysis of fluorinated and pristine graphene, offering enhanced insights into their properties and interactions. This study contributes to advancing the understanding and application of fluorinated graphene in gas sensing technologie
