Comprehensive Study of the Synergistic Effect in Photocyclic Three-Component Initiating System for Radical Polymerization

    No full text
International audienceIn radical photopolymerization, synergistic three-component initiating systems lead to far better radical polymerization performances when compared with the corresponding two component systems. The third component is able to produce additional initiating radicals, regenerate the photoinitiator, thus forming a photocyclic initiating system, and consume terminating photoproducts that occur in two component photoinitiators. However, the respective roles of these reactions are not well defined. Kinetic modeling is applied to a synergistic photocyclic initiating system to provide insights into the synergistic effects observed in a system based on an organic dye (Rose Bengal), a triazine derivative and a tertiary amine as the third component. From kinetic modeling, the low polymerization performances of the dye-triazine system are attributed to back electron transfer, but mainly to termination reactions by the oxidized dye photoproduct. Introduction of the amine greatly improves the polymerization performances. From time-resolved experiments, this is explained by its reaction with oxidized Rose Bengal to regenerate the dye and produce additional initiating radicals. It is also shown that the combination of these three components leads to a dual photocyclic behavior. Kinetic modeling of the three-component system shows good agreement with experimental data. Finally, a theoretical study using the kinetic model developed here highlights that the consumption of the oxidized dye terminating agent by the tertiary amine is the main reason for the improved polymerization kinetics.</div

Thyroidectomy without radioiodine in patients with low-risk thyroid cancer: 5 years of follow-up of the prospective randomised ESTIMABL2 trial

    No full text
International audienceBackground ESTIMABL2, a multicentre randomised phase 3 trial in patients with low-risk differentiated thyroid cancer (ie, pT1am or pT1b, N0 [no evidence of regional nodal involvement] or Nx [involvement of regional lymph nodes that cannot be assessed in the absence of neck dissection]), showed the non-inferiority of a follow-up strategy without radioactive iodine (¹³¹I) administration compared with a postoperative ¹³¹I administration at 3 years post-randomisation. Here, we report a pre-specified analysis after 5 years of follow-up.Methods Patients treated with total thyroidectomy with or without prophylactic neck lymph node dissection, without postoperative suspicious findings on neck ultrasonography, were randomly assigned to the no-radioiodine group or to the radioiodine group (1•1 GBq-30 mCi after recombinant human thyrotropin-stimulating hormone). Follow-up consisted of annual thyroglobulin and thyroglobulin antibody determinations during levothyroxine treatment and neck ultrasonography in odd-numbered years. An event was defined as abnormal foci of ¹³¹I uptake on the post-treatment whole-body-scan requiring subsequent treatment, abnormal neck ultrasonography, elevated thyroglobulin levels, increasing titres or appearance of thyroglobulin antibody (using the same laboratory assay), or a combination of these definitions. Non-inferiority of the proportion of patients without an event in one group compared with the other at 5 years after randomisation was shown if this proportion and its CI did not differ by more than -5%. This study was registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT01837745) and is completed. FindingsOf the 776 patients (n=642 [82•7%] female and n=134 [17•3%] male, median age 52•9 years [IQR 42•6-63•1]) enrolled, 698 were evaluable at 5 years. The proportions of patients without events were 93•2% in the no-radioiodine group and 94•8% in the radioiodine group, for a difference of -1•6% (90% CI -4•5 to 1•4). Events consisted of structural or functional abnormalities (n=11) and biological abnormalities (n=31).Interpretation The non-inferiority of a follow-up strategy compared with postoperative ¹³¹I administration in low risk differentiated thyroid cancer was confirmed at 5 years. There is no loss of opportunity in following these patients without postoperative ablation.Funding Programme de Recherche Hospitalier Clinique.</div

Future Circular Collider Feasibility Study Report: Volume 3, Civil Engineering, Implementation and Sustainability: Volume 3 Civil Engineering, Implementation and Sustainability

    No full text
International audienceVolume 3 of the FCC Feasibility Report presents studies related to civil engineering, the development of a project implementation scenario, and environmental and sustainability aspects. The report details the iterative improvements made to the civil engineering concepts since 2018, taking into account subsurface conditions, accelerator and experiment requirements, and territorial considerations. It outlines a technically feasible and economically viable civil engineering configuration that serves as the baseline for detailed subsurface investigations, construction design, cost estimation, and project implementation planning. Additionally, the report highlights ongoing subsurface investigations in key areas to support the development of an improved 3D subsurface model of the region. The report describes development of the project scenario based on the 'avoid-reduce-compensate' iterative optimisation approach. The reference scenario balances optimal physics performance with territorial compatibility, implementation risks, and costs. Environmental field investigations covering almost 600 hectares of terrain - including numerous urban, economic, social, and technical aspects - confirmed the project's technical feasibility and contributed to the preparation of essential input documents for the formal project authorisation phase. The summary also highlights the initiation of public dialogue as part of the authorisation process. The results of a comprehensive socio-economic impact assessment, which included significant environmental effects, are presented. Even under the most conservative and stringent conditions, a positive benefit-cost ratio for the FCC-ee is obtained. Finally, the report provides a concise summary of the studies conducted to document the current state of the environment

    ARAGON, Essais littéraires,

International audienceFrom A Wave of Dreams, in 1924, to I Never Learned to Write or the Incipit, this volume brings together the essence of a little-known part of Aragon's creation, his critical work. The journey is chronological, and punctuated by significant volumes, such as the surrealist provocation of the Treatise on Style (1928), the long, erudite reverie of the Chronicles of Bel Canto, or I'll Play Down My Game (1959), which analyzes the links between the novel and history. The autobiographical temptation is everywhere. The whole forms the portrait of an immense reader who walks in the company of Stendhal, Hugo, Colette or Barrès, Chateaubriand or the troubadours, Guillevic or Eluard, Marceline Desbordes-Valmore, Racine or Rimbaud. Among the previously uncollected texts, the "Preface to Maldoror" of 1922 inaugurates a long dialogue with Lautréamont, while the important speech of 1977, "Research on a great new art," accompanies the legacy of Aragon's manuscripts "to the French nation." Crossing all the periods of a multiple genius, exhibiting the tensions between the aesthetics to which he successively lays claim, the Literary Essays thus present its strong unity, that of a writing in freedom, sumptuously digressive, which gathers in its folds and detours a whole literary history that perhaps no one will have been able to explore in this way, to the point of vertigo.D'Une vague de rêves, en 1924, à Je n'ai jamais appris à écrire ou les Incipit, ce volume regroupe l'essentiel d'une part méconnue de la création d'Aragon, son oeuvre critique.

    No full text
International audienceContemporary migration is giving rise to complex socio-political transitions in contexts marked by migration policies that are becoming increasingly repressive and the circulation of polarising discourses in public spaces. NGOs play an essential role in this context. By creating spaces for expression and co-constructing alternative narratives on migration, they offer migrants the opportunity to share their sensitives experiences, express their uniquenessand enhance their power to act. Through an ethnographic study carried out within Cimade between 2017 and 2024, this paper explores how the communicational practices of these NGOs can promote the empowerment of migrants, particularly through a socially innovative info-communicational device: the Street Parliament, organised in Nancy in June 2024.Les migrations contemporaines engendrent des transitions socio-politiques complexes dans des contextes marqués par des politiques migratoires de plus en plus répressives et la circulation de discours polarisants dans les espaces publics.
