Highly efficient one-pot synthesis of polyesteramides from ɛ-caprolactone and l-phenylalanine with high cell-viability and chemical stability
International audienceBiocompatible materials have greatly expanded the engineering possibilities for both disease treatment and overall health care. An outstanding family of such biomaterials is poly(ester amide) (PEA), which has proliferated incredibly in the past decades. Herein, we report the synthesis of a new series of PEAs derived from ɛ-caprolactone (CL) and l-phenylalanine (L-Phe) by melt polycondensation with a wide range of molar compositions. Their structure is investigated in the light of in-depth infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance analyses. The resulting copolymers are completely amorphous for (CL) contents lower than 80 %, while copolymers with (CL) composition above 80 % are semi-crystalline. Furthermore, these copolymers have an excellent thermal stability and a glass transition temperature (Tg) that increases with the amino acid content, reaching 47 °C. More importantly, they were found to be non-cytotoxic, with high cell-viability and chemically stable under hydrolytic and oxidative conditions, opening up the possibility for developing materials suitable for biomedical applications, particularly as drug delivery systems

Wetting of Silicone Oil Drops and Air Bubbles in Ethylene Glycol/Water Mixtures
International audienceContact angles of silicone oil droplets and air bubbles settled on a solid substrate and confined in binary ethylene glycol/water mixtures were studied as a function of ethylene glycol concentration. Despite similar reductions in interfacial tensions for both systems, distinct wetting behaviors were observed. While the air bubble contact angle increased with ethylene glycol concentration, the silicone oil droplet exhibited a more complex response, characterized by a stable contact angle at low ethylene glycol concentrations followed by an increase at higher concentrations. This suggests that droplet morphology can remain relatively stable even as interfacial tensions change. A phenomenological description based on the imbalanced forces highlights the crucial role of the contact angle in pure water environment, in predicting the wetting behavior that may follow the reduction of interfacial tension by further surfactant or cosolvent adsorption.</div
On absolutely continuous curves in the Wasserstein space over R and their representation by an optimal Markov process
Let µ = (µt)t∈R be a 1-parameter family of probability measures on R. In [11] we introduced its “Markov-quantile”process: a process X= (Xt)t∈R that resembles as much as possible the quantile process attached to µ, among the Markov processesattached to µ, i.e. whose family of marginal laws is µ.In this article we look at the case where µ is absolutely continuous in the Wasserstein space P2(R). Then X is solution of adynamical transport problem with marginals (µt)t. It provides a Markov minimal Lagrangian probabilistic representative of µ, whichis moreover unique among the processes obtained as certain types of limits: limits for the finite dimensional topology of quantileprocesses where the past is made independent of the future conditionally on the present at finitely many times, or limits of processeslinearly interpolating µ.This raises new questions about ways to obtain Markov Lagrangian representatives, and to seek uniqueness properties in thisframework.
Recent Advances in Heterogenization of Photocatalysts on Polymer Supports and Applications in Organic Synthesis
International audienceThe photocatalysis is a powerful tool in organic synthesis to generate reactive intermediates and create challenging chemical bonds. The reactivity on such process is mainly controlled by a photocatalyst (PCat) which is designed to ensure both selectivity and efficiency. In the pursuit of more economical and environmentally friendly approaches, the heterogenization of photocatalysts has become increasingly essential, and it is still challenging. Among the various insoluble supports studied, polymers offer several appealing characteristics, such as stability, ease of synthesis, porosity, and recyclability. This review aims to summarize the recent progress in heterogenization of photocatalyst on polymer including the polymerization of PCat, post‐grafting of PCat and 3D‐printing. For the selected heterogeneous photocatalyst, examples of organic transformations and evidence of photocatalytic efficiency will be discussed
International audienceBorn in the 17th century from a rape that occurred aboard a slave ship coming from the African coast to Barbados, initiated into the supernatural and the virtues of plants, potions and ointments by the old lady who took her in, the slave Tituba was associated with what was considered the worst of feminine representations: the witch. Her story, reconstructed through the imagination of Maryse Condé in a novel published in 1986, allows us to observe the interstices of freedom that the heroine constructs notwithstanding the counter-spaces constituted by societies that reject what they ignore. The ship, "heterotopia par excellence" (Foucault, 1966), the colony and the voyage allow us to examine the constant deviations that societies would like to hide or make disappear but for which they choose to blame the individuals they consider to be in crisis and who resist it.
