Creating Arab Nationalism? Russia and Greece in Ottoman Syria and Palestine (1840–1909)
This study focuses on the struggle of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Greek Orthodox Church for influence over the Christian Orthodox Arabs living in Ottoman Palestine and Syria. The main points of this study are the struggles of both churches through the patriarchate and patriarchs, sometimes among themselves, sometimes against Protestant missionary activities in the region and sometimes against the unifying activities of the Catholic Church in the region. We will also witness how the Ottoman Empire closely followed this inter-patriarchal struggle and, as a law-making power, always made itself recognised by the parties and, when necessary, tried to use this struggle for influence to its advantage. Another issue emphasised in the study is the role played by the Russian and Greek Orthodox churches in the formation of Arab nationalism
Thermal and mechanical analysis of thermal power plant ashes, cement and resin composites
This study used thermal power plant fly ash (FA) and bottom ash (BA) as fill materials and investigated the thermal properties of composites made of cement and pine tree resin binders. For each ash group, 36 samples were prepared by adding 50% cement and 1% to 2% resin as binders. i) FA samples had 23.18%, 22.99%, and 77.01% lower density, thermal conductivity, and compressive strength than BA samples, respectively. FA samples had 9.42% higher porosity than BA samples. ii) FA (0.177 W/mK) and BA (0.221 W/mK) samples with resin and cement had the lowest heat transfer coefficients. iii) FA (14.46 MPa) and BA (36.96 MPa) samples (resin + cement binder) had the highest compressive strength values
Comparison of online, face-to-face and video-based teaching methods in anatomy education of medical faculty students
There are many opinions on the effectiveness of the methods used in anatomy education. The aim of the study is to determine the superiority of online, video- based, and face-to-face education methods over each other. A total of 80 students, 41 female, and 39 male, participated at Malatya Turgut Özal University Faculty of Medicine to study. A questionnaire consisting of 20 questions, seven questions questioning demographic information and internet activity, and 13 queries about anatomy education was applied by online submission. The students consider that video-recorded education is effective in terms of time management with %75, three-dimensional digital resources are effective with 47.5%, more concentrated in face-to-face education than online education with 48.8%, face-to-face education is sufficient in professionality in medical applications with 58.8%. The students stated that both face-to-face and video-recorded education were effective at a high rate, with 73.8%. In addition, anatomy lectures should be based on theory and practice, and face-to-face&video-recorded education to be together with practical education 70%. The correlation results demonstrate that the benefit of teaching method, concentration, and benefit on professionality have the highest level of correlation with other educational landmarks. Face to face method is effective in concentration and community, and the video-recorded education method is effective in time management in anatomy education. Therefore both face-to-face and video-based education called the hybrid education method, is effective in anatomy education

Use of a Biopolymer for Road Pavement Subgrade
This paper presents an extensive series of laboratory works and a prediction model on the design of a road pavement subgrade with Xanthan Gum (XG) biopolymer. The experimental works were carried out using mixtures of conventional aggregate for road pavement construction and XG at the ratios of 0%, 1%, 2%, and 5%, by dry weight. Unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and California bearing ratio (CBR) tests were conducted during the experimental works at the end of the various curing periods (4, 8, 16, and 32 days). An example of an improvement in the UCS values for a specimen with 5% XG addition tested at the end of 4-daycuring yields about a 200% increment by the end of a 32-daycuring. The CBR values of clean aggregates were found to be increased by about 300% by 5% XG addition for all curing periods applied. Furthermore, the energy absorption capacity of the aggregates was observed to be increased significantly by both XG inclusion and curing period. Moreover, scaled conjugate gradient (SCG) training algorithm-based models developed for the prediction of CBR and UCS test results displayed a very high estimation performance with the regression coefficients of R-2 = 0.967 and R-2 = 0.987, respectively. Evidently, XG biopolymer is provably of use as an alternative inclusion in road pavement subgrades constructed with conventional aggregates
Relationship between symptom burden and dialysis adequacy in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to reveal the relationship between hemodialysis (HD) adequacy and dialysis symptom index (DSI) in patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD).METHODS: This prospective study included 92 ESKD patients who underwent HD three times a week. Data including sex, age, education status, marital status, economic status, employment status, dependency status, type of vascular access, and duration of HD were recorded. Biochemical and hematological analyses were carried out. Dialysis adequacy was assessed based on clinical and biochemical analysis. The DSI was used to evaluate the emotional and physical symptoms of HD patients.RESULTS: Of the patients, 55 were males and 37 were females, with a mean age of 59.95 +/- 14.9 years. The median duration of HD was 60.0 months (interquartile range: 20.8-103.5). The mean DSI score was 54.35 +/- 26.0, with a significantly higher score in female patients (p= 1.2 (p<0.001). In multivariate regression analysis using biochemical parameters, the spKt/V ratio was a significant and independent predictor of DSI scores (R-2=0.64, p<0.001). In addition, a significant and independent relationship was found between DSI and gender, age, and economic status in the regression analysis (R-2=0.36, p<0.001).CONCLUSION: Dialysis adequacy is an independent predictor of DSI. If an adequate dialysis dose is ensured to be delivered, symptom burden may dramatically decrease

Comparison of Photoelectric Conversion Efficiencies of DSSCs Sensitized with Velvet Red Rose and Ivy Rose Dye
In this study, extracts from velvet red rose and ivy rose were used as sensitizers in dye-sensitized solar cells. XRD analyses confirmed the anatase structure of the thin film. SEM photographs showed that the nanospheres were in tight contact with each other, allowing for greater dye absorption on the surface. It was understood from the UV-vis analysis that the velvet red rose dye exhibited a wider absorption in the visible region. The I-V characterizations showed that cell sensitized with velvet red rose dye exhibited higher cell performance (?=0.12) than DSSC sensitized with ivy rose dye
