Correlations between objective and subjective tests of nasal patency in patients undergoing septoplasty
ObjectiveThis study assessed correlations between pre- and post-operative objective and subjective nasal patency test results in patients undergoing septoplasty to treat nasal septum deviation. MethodEighty nasal septum deviation patients who underwent septoplasty were prospectively enrolled. Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation questionnaire scores, anterior rhinomanometry and acoustic rhinometry data were compared pre-operatively and three months after surgery. The left, right and total volume and left, right and total minimum cross-sectional area acoustic rhinometry values were compared. ResultsThe left volume, total volume, left minimum cross-sectional area and total minimum cross-sectional area differed significantly between the two time-points (all p 0.05). ConclusionThis study suggested that subjective tests such as the Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation questionnaire are optimal to identify complaints and assess post-operative satisfaction
Detection and classification of diseases in plant leaves using deep learning methods

Bu nedenle tarıma duyulan ihtiyacın artmasıyla mahsul veriminin kalitesinin artırılması ve iyileştirilmesi önemli bir ilgi alanıdır. Bitkiler bir hastalıkla karşılaşması durumunda elde edilecek mahsulün miktarı ve kalitesinde azalma gerçekleşmesiyle birlikte verim düşecektir. Bu bakımdan, bitkilerden elde edilen ürünlerin kaliteli olması, bitkilerin hastalıklardan korunmasına bağlıdır. Bitkide hastalık meydana geldiğinde ise hastalığın erkenden tespitinin yapılabilmesi ve bitkinin tedavi edilebilmesi çok önemli bir gereklilik olup bu sayede bitkiden elde edilecek ürün verimi kalitesinin düşmesinin önüne geçilebilmiş olunacaktır. Bu çalışmada hastalıkların erken aşamada tespit edilmesi amacıyla son yıllarda oldukça popüler olan derin öğrenme tabanlı modeller ve çeşitli halka açık veri setleri kullanılarak sınıflandırma yapılmıştır. Tarım teknolojisindeki gelişmeler ve bitki hastalıklarının teşhisinde yapay zekânın kullanılmasıyla, sürdürülebilir tarımsal kalkınma için uygun araştırmaların yapılması gittikçe önemli hale gelmektedir. Bitkilerdeki hastalıkların erken tespit edilmesi ve elde edilecek ürün miktarının artırılmasına yönelik yapılacak bir çalışma önemlidir. Çünkü hastalığın bir uzman ya da çiftçiler tarafından çıplak gözle veya laboratuvar testleri gibi geleneksel sınıflandırma yöntemleriyle teşhis edilmesi zor ve yanıltıcı olabileceğinden ve aynı zamanda zaman alıcı, maliyetli ve öznel olması gibi birçok sınırlaması olduğundan dolayı bitki hastalıklarının derin öğrenme yöntemleri kullanılarak tespiti ve sınıflandırılması hızlı ve doğru bir yöntem sunmaktadır. Bu amaçla bitki yapraklarındaki hastalıkların erken tespit edilebilmesi için literatürde kabul gören derin öğrenme mimarileri kullanılmıştır. Ayrıca daha başarılı sonuçlar elde etmek için yeni bir model geliştirilmiştir. For this reason, it is an important area of interest to increase and improve the quality of crop yield with the increase in the need for agriculture. If the plants encounter a disease, the yield will decrease with the decrease in the amount and quality of the crop to be obtained. In this regard, the quality of products obtained from plants depends on the protection of plants from diseases. When a disease occurs in the plant, early detection and treatment of the disease is an essential requirement, and thus, the decrease in the quality of the product to be obtained from the plant will be prevented. In this study, classification was made using deep learning-based models and various publicly available datasets, which have been very popular in recent years, in order to detect diseases at an early stage. With the advances in agricultural technology and the use of artificial intelligence in the diagnosis of plant diseases, it is becoming increasingly important to conduct appropriate research for sustainable agricultural development. A study to detect diseases in plants early and to increase the amount of product to be obtained is important. Because it can be difficult and misleading to detection the disease by an expert or a farmer with traditional classification methods such as naked eye or laboratory testing, and also because it has many limitations, such as time-consuming, costly and subjective, it provides a quick and accurate way to detect and classify plant diseases using deep learning methods. For this purpose, deep learning architectures accepted in the literature were used to detect diseases in plant leaves early. In addition, a new model has been developed to achieve more successful results. Taş Alası (Salmo Trutta Macrostigma) Balığının Moleküler Gastronomi Teknikleri ile Pişirilmesi
Günümüzde hızla değişen ve gelişen rekabet ortamı, gastronomi alanında birçok yeni akımı ortaya çıkarmıştır. Gastronomide yeni akımlar incelendiğinde moleküler gastronomi uygulamaları yaygın olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu çalışma kapsamında moleküler gastronomi anlayışı benimsenerek taş alası balığına farklı pişirme tekniklerinin uygulanması ve reçete edilmesi hedeflenmiştir. Çalışmada moleküler gastronomi tekniklerinden tütsüleme, sous-vide ve küreleme teknikleri kullanılmıştır. Tütsüleme işlemi için kaküle, yıldız anason ve kadife çiçeği kullanılmıştır. Her bir aromatik bitki ile ayrı ayrı tütsülenen balıkların mikrobiyolojik stabilitesinin sağlanması ve gerekli aroma bileşenlerinin oluşumu amacıyla 60? C de 30 dakika boyunca sous-vide tekniği ile pişirilmiştir. Sous-wide tekniği ile pişirilen balıklar yöresel bazı bitkiler ile servis edilmiştir. Balıkların servisinde yine bir moleküler teknik olan küreleme tekniği tercih edilerek, madımak, yemlik ve pezik havyarı kullanılmıştır. Bu şekilde hazırlanan tabaklar 20 panelist tarafından değerlendirilmiş ve sonuçlar istatistiki açıdan incelenmiştir. Çalışma kapsamında yapılan anketler ve değerlendirmeler ışığında yerel balık türlerinin de modern tekniklerle pişirilebileceği ve kabul edilebilir seviyelerde ürün ortaya çıkabileceği kanısına varılmıştır
Multiple factors influencing mortality in hemodialysis patients
OBJECTIVE: Both decreased food intake and elevated inflammation contribute to malnutrition in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Malnutrition, inflammation, anthropometric measurements, and other comorbidity factors were investigated in this study as potential indicators of mortality in HD patients.PATIENTS AND METHODS: By measuring geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI), malnutrition inflammation score (MIS), and prognostic nutritional index (PNI), 334 HD patients' nutritional status was assessed. Through the use of four different models and logistic regression analysis, the predictors of each individual's survival status were examined. The models were matched using the Hosmer-Lemeshow test. On the survival of patients, the effects of malnutrition indices in Model 1, anthropometric measurements in Model 2, blood parameters in Mod-el 3, and sociodemographic characteristics in Model 4 were investigated.RESULTS: Five years later, 286 individuals were still on hemodialysis. Patients who had a high GNRI value had a lower mortality rate in Model 1. The body mass index (BMI) value of the patients was found to be the best predictor of mortality in Model 2, and it was found that patients with high muscle percentage had a lower mortality risk. The difference in urea level measured at the beginning and end of hemodialysis was found to be the most potent predictor of mortality in Model 3, although C-reactive protein (CRP) level was also discovered to be one of the best predictors for this model. The final model, Model 4, revealed that mortality was low-er in women than in men and that income status was a reliable predictor of mortality estimation.CONCLUSIONS: The best indicator of mortality in hemodialysis patients is the malnutrition index
Otolin-1 as a biomarker for the evaluation of the effectiveness of betahistine treatment for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo
ObjectiveBenign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common vertigo disorder. Betahistine is the most commonly used drug in the treatment of vertigo, however its effect on the inner ear is not fully known. Otolin-1 is an inner ear-specific glycoprotein that can be identified in peripheral blood. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of treatment of betahistine for BPPV on serum otolin-1 levels.MethodsThirty (30) patients with BPPV and 30 healthy controls were enrolled in the study. Serum otolin-1 levels were measured before and 14 days after perioral (po) betahistine treatment in the BPPV group, whereas otolin-1 level was examined once in controls. The efficacy of treatment was evaluated with Dizziness Handicap Index (DHI) and Visual Analog Scale (VAS) in the BPPV group.ResultsOtolin-1 levels were statistically significantly higher in patients with BPPV than controls. In the BPPV group, serum otolin-1 level was found to be statistically significantly lower after betahistine treatment. There was a statistically significantly difference between pre-treatment and posttreatment groups regarding to both DHI and VAS scores.ConclusionSerum otolin-1 can be used as a biomarker in monitoring the effectiveness of treatment of BPPV with betahistine as well as diagnosis of BPPV
The effect of kinesio taping on neck pain in academicians
Pain in the neck is one of the oldest and most common problems known to mankind. Neck pain is generally defined as a feeling of discomfort felt in the side and back of the neck. This study aimed to investigate the effect of KT on neck pain in academicians with neck pain. We aimed to investigate the effectiveness of taping by using the Bournemouth Neck Questionnaire before and after to evaluate neck pain. A total of 40 people, 18 male, and 22 female participated in the study. Academicians with neck pain were included in our study. Demographic information such as age, height, weight, gender, regular sports habits, daily smoking, and chronic disease status was questioned. \"Y\" and \"I\" bands were applied to the participants. The \"Y\" band was applied to the lower end of the cervical 7th vertebra (Vertebra Prominens) with submaximal tension, and the other two ends were applied to the right end of the right end to the proc. mastoideus of and temporal bone the left end to the processus (proc.) mastoideus of the left temporal bone. The \"I\" band was applied to the pars transversa of the trapezius muscle with moderate tension. The applied bands remained on the participants for 72 hours (3 days). In addition, the Bournemouth Neck Pain Questionnaire consisting of 7 questions was applied to the participants, questioning the intensity of pain, inadequacy in activities of daily living, inadequacy in social activities, anxiety, emotional aspects of depression, kinesiophobia, and ability to control pain. The Bournemouth Neck Pain Questionnaire was administered twice before and 10 days after the taping procedure and the results were compared. It was observed that the Bournemouth Neck Pain Scale scores before taping were higher than after taping in the participants included in the study. The decrease in Bournemouth Neck Pain scale scores after taping was statistically significant (p0.05), but a statistically significant difference was found after taping (p<0.05). It has been concluded that KT is an effective method in the treatment of neck pain in academics who spend a long time at the computer and desk. We believe that the study will contribute to clinicians, researchers and the literature
Investigation of the Relationship between Social Support and the Level of Hopelessness in Diabetic Patients: Descriptive Research
Study aimed to investigate the relationship between social support and the level of hopelessness in diabetic patients. The study was carried out as descriptive research in the internal medicine clinic and polyclinics of a state hospital located in the southeast of Turkey. The population of the research consisted of adult patients diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus who were followed up in the internal medicine clinics of the said hospital. The sample of the research was composed of 252 patients through power analysis with 0.05 error, 0.95 confidence interval and 0.95 representative power of the universe. In the collection of the data, Personal Information Form developed by the researchers, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and Beck Hopelessness Scale were employed. In the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics, t-test in independent groups, One-Way ANOVA, Mann-Whitney U test, correlation and Cronbach’s alpha reliability analysis were used. In the study, the patients’ mean scores obtained from Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support and Beck Hopelessness Scale were found to be 65.2±15 and 11.2±1.8, respectively. It was determined that the patients had high levels of perceived social support and moderate levels of hopelessness. In the study, a negative and significant relationship was found between the mean scores obtained from Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support and Beck Hopelessness Scale. It was also determined that as the patients’ perceived social support levels increase, their levels of hopelessness decrease

Ortaçağ İnsanları adlı çalışma toplamda 239 kadar az hacimli olmakla beraber bizlere Ortaçağ toplumu hakkında geniş bilgiler sunan kıymetli bir eserdir. Çok az sayfa hacmine karşılık çalışmanın her aşaması titizlikle hazırlanmış olduğu dikkatlerden kaçmamıştır. Çalışmanın çevirmeni tarafında eklemelerin yapıldığı eserde “Giriş” adlı başlıkla çalışmaya ufak bir adım atılmıştır. Öncelikle bu açıdan çalışma diğer çalışmalarla kıyasla niteliklidir. Bu başlık altında okuyuculara hem Ortaçağ Avrupası hem de çalışmanın kahramanları hakkında bilgiler sunulmuştur. Çevirmen burada eserin içeriğiyle ilgili merakımızı uyandıran notlar eklemiştir. Çok akıcı ve anlaşılır bir üslupla okuyucuyu ilk cümleden itibaren okumaya teşvik etmektedir
Effect of different potassium fertilizers on yield and quality of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) under drought stress conditions
The experiment was carried out in open field conditions in Ciğir village, located in the Idil district of Sirnak province, during 2020 tomato growing season. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of different potassium (potassium chloride, potassium sulfate and potassium nitrate) fertilizers on yield and quality characteristics of tomato plants (Fereng genotype and Kamenta F1 variety) grown under drought stress. The fertilizers were foliar applied at a dose of 1%. Irrigation treatments of the experiment were full irrigation (control, 100%), 66% of the full irrigation, and 33% of the full irrigation. Leaf temperature, relative water content of leaf, chlorophyll content, fresh and dry weight of green parts, membranes injury index, soluble solid content (SSC) in tomato juice, pH of tomato juice and total yield were determined. The results indicated that drought stress had a significant adverse impacts on yield and quality of both Fereng genotype and Kamenta F1 variety. The application of potassium nitrate and potassium sulfate caused an increase in the chlorophyll and water soluble solid content. Potassium chloride application resulted in a reduction in membrane damage. The effects of potassium sulfate fertilizer on yield was significantly higher than the other two potassium fertilizers
Parçikan Bitümlü Şeylinin Termal Analiz Kinetiği ve Reaksiyon Mekanizması
Bu çalışma, termogravimetrik analiz kullanılarak Arguvan-Parçikan bitümlü şeylindeki organik maddenin yanma kinetiğini araştırmayı amaçlamıştır. Bu amaçla bitümlü şeyle ait kinetik parametreler Arrhenius, Coats-Redfern, Ingraham-Marrier, Horowitz-Metzger olmak üzere 4 farklı kinetik model kullanılarak TGA verilerinden belirlenmiştir. Farklı modeller kullanılarak elde edilen bu kinetik parametreler birbirleriyle karşılaştırmalı olarak sunulmuştur. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre en yüksek aktivasyon enerjisi değerleri 277,27 - 1984,53 kj/mol olarak Arrhenius modeli ile hesaplanmıştır
