PERIPHERAL LYMPHOCYTE COUNT IN UNTREATED NON-HODGKIN'S LYMPHOMA PATIENTS AND THEIR LYMPHOGRAPHIC FINDINGS
The relation between grades of foaminess in lumbar, iliac and inguinal nodes on bipedal lymphograms, and peripheral lymphocyte counts was assessed inpatients with untreated non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The lymphocyte counts were widely distributed in and around the normal range in patient with normallymphographic find ings, but in patients with increased grades of foaminess they were depressed to a marked degree. The decrease in peripheral lymphocyte counts in patients revealing no pathological grades of foaminess may be caused by the occultabdominal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma or may suggest the impending extension of the disease in these nodal chains
LYMPH FLOW IN HUMAN LEG
A little bit of RJSA (0.01 - 0.02 ml) was injected intoa lymphatic at the back of a human foot in supineand/or sitting position, and the radioactivity curveswere obtained at the inguinal and/or at the middle ofthe thigh. Radioactivity curves at the inguinal regionshowed stepwise rise with the frequency of about1 /min. in subjects without edema and steep risewithout staircase in patients with cardiac edema.Radioactivity curves at the middle of the thigh showedmany spiky waves with the frequency of about 1/min.in supine subjects without edema, which were increasedin frequency , duration and/or height in sitting subjectswithout edema and also in supine and sitting patientswith cardiac edema.Therefore, it may be said that there are rhythmic lymphflows in lower leg of subjects without edema and ofpatients with cardiac edema not only in supine butalso in sitting position, and also that lymphatic contractilityplays some role in propelling lymph in human leg

Electron microscopic periodic acid methenamine silver staining of lymphatic endo-thelial basal lamina taken from diabetic patient has shown a positively changed basal lamina, which is an early sign of the changes and plays an important role in pathological tissue changes in the disease

TIME OF EXCHANGE OF 131 I-LABELED ALBUMIN BETWEEN PLASMA AND PERIPHERAL LYMPH IN MAN
The passage from blood to peripheral lymph of 131 I-labeledhuman serum albumin has been studied in 6male patients (30 - 70 years) with malignancies withoutmetastases. On the first day the concentrationof radio-labeled albumin in the blood waskept almost constant by repeated i.v. injections.Lymph was collected continuously from a cannulatedsubcutaneous lymph vessel on the leg.Two hours after the first i.v. injection of radio-labeledalbumin the lymph contained significantamounts of radioactivity in all patients. Equilibriumbetween radioactivity in blood and lymph was reachedafter 26 hrs. This indicates a long "wash out time"of unlabeled protein in the interstitial tissue fromwhere lymph has been sampled
LACTIC DEHYDROGENASE ACTIVITY IN LUNG LYMPH DURING HEMORRHAGIC SHOCK , RESUSCITATION AND RECOVERY
Lactic dehydrogenase activity was determined inlung lymph before, during and after hemorrhagicshock to determine If this insult produced pulmo-nary cellular damage. Lung lymph flow and lymphprotein content, reliable indice of fluid filtrationrate and microvascular protein permeability werealso monitored. The experiment was performed inunanesthetized sheep with a chronic lung lymphfistula. Lymph flow, lymph LDH and protein con-tent did not change during the period of shock.Lymph flow increasd significantly during resuscita-tion but lymph LDH and protein content decreasedin relation to plasrna value indicating the sievingeffect of the microvascular membrane for proteinto be intact . Th increased flow was most likelycaused by an increase in microvascular hydrostaticpressure. Plasma LDH was significantly increasedduring the 72 hour recovery period with lymphflow, lymph protein and lymph LDH being normal.We therefore found that hemorrhagic shock pro·duced a systemic cellular injury reflected in an in·creased plasma LDH activity. No pulmonary cellulardamage was noted
THE INFLUENCE OF ATROPINE AND ADRENALINE ON BASAL LYMPH FLOW IN THE NECK REGION
The effect of atropine (0.5 mg/i.v.) and adrenaline (5 pg/ min.) on basal lymph flow in the neck region was tudied in 15 patients. No significant stimulatory effect of these drugs on basal lymph flow was registrated
ACUTE BACTERIAL ENDOCARDITIS IN DOGS AFTER CONSTRICTION OF THE INFERIOR VENA CAVA AND LIGATION OF THE THORACIC DUCT
Acute bacterial endocarditis in dogs is relatively rare. In a previous study we demonstrated that surgically produced impairment of cardiac lymph flow predisposed to the development of acute bacterial endocarditis after the intravenous injection of suspensions of staphylococci (1). More recently we have observed the development of endocarditis in dogs in which no bacteria were injected, but in which the thoracic duct lymph flow was obstructed and the inferior vena cava had been constricted in its thoracic portion. We believe that these observations may define additional factors important in the pathogenesis of valvular endocarditis
