    No full text

    No full text
International audienceBased on a questionnaire administered to 180 SME managers, this article aims to see the link between stakeholders and the post-succession performance recorded by managers whose experiences and origins differ in a context where capital can be diluted or concentrated. The SEM-PLS approach was used, and the data processed with smartPLS3. Our results indicate that regardless of the origin of the succession, the capital structure and the manager’s experience, the involvement of stakeholders in strategic decisions does not impact on post-succession performance. The new leaders seek to act independently to carry out the strategic orientations of the companies taken over. Our results also show that stakeholders who succeed in participating in operational decision-making processes lead to a drop in post-succession performance, when the new managers do not hold most of the capital or if they come from outside or again when they are not experienced. The latter would have to exploit relations with their stakeholders to strengthen their legitimacy.

Multiwavelength observations of a new black-widow millisecond pulsar PSR J1544-2555

International audienceWe report the discovery of a new black-widow millisecond pulsar, PSR J1544-2555, associated with the Fermi-LAT source 4FGL J1544.2-2554. Optical, radio, and gamma-ray observations confirmed its nature as a compact spider binary system. Optical photometry from ULTRACAM revealed a ~2.7-hour orbital period, guiding MeerKAT observations that detected ~2.4-ms radio pulsations. Subsequent timing campaigns using the Murriyang Parkes Telescope, the Effelsberg 100-m Radio Telescope, and the Nançay Radio Telescope allowed us to obtain a preliminary timing solution, which enabled us to find gamma-ray pulsations. The final timing solution, spanning 16 years of Fermi-LAT gamma-ray data, also displays orbital period variations typical of spider pulsars. X-ray observations from eROSITA indicate non-thermal emission, but the relatively low count rate prohibits the search for X-ray pulsations. Optical light curve modelling using Icarus suggests the asymmetry is best explained by a spot model, where uneven heating creates localised temperature variations on the companion. While the optical spectra we obtained are compatible with the physical properties we infer for the companion star, they were not of sufficient signal-to-noise to allow for radial velocity measurements, thus limiting constraints on the neutron star's mass. The observed bluer colour near the light curve minimum suggests possible non-thermal emission from intra-binary shocks, supported by the presence of an X-ray source. This discovery exemplifies the proven capability of the Fermi-LAT catalogue in identifying millisecond pulsar candidates and highlights the role of optical surveys in detecting variable sources suitable for radio follow-up

Synthesis and trigonal structure of a new lead-free zero-dimensional perovskite (CH3NH3)2[SnBr6] with multifunctional optical and electrical properties

    No full text
International audienceTin-halide perovskites have recently gained attention as a promising alternative to lead-halide perovskites for optoelectronic and photovoltaic applications. This study focuses on synthesizing and characterizing the zero-dimensional perovskite-type halide (CH3NH3)2[SnBr6]. The compound was successfully synthesized through the slow evaporation technique at ambient temperature. The crystal structure was determined using diffraction data from a single crystal, confirming that the compound crystallizes in the R-3m trigonal space group. Furthermore, X-ray diffraction analysis of the powdered sample, obtained by grinding multiple crystals, demonstrated that all crystals share an identical chemical composition. Raman spectroscopy provided comprehensive insights into the vibrational properties of the material. Optical absorption analysis revealed a direct band gap of approximately 3.21 eV, indicating the semiconductor nature of the material. The complex impedance spectroscopy (CIS) method is employed to investigate the material’s electrical and dielectric behaviors, with an emphasis on carrier dynamics, grain boundaries influence, dielectric relaxation (localized relaxation), and long-range conduction (non-localized relaxation). Analyzing the complex impedance and electric modulus allows identifying the grain boundary’s contribution to the material’s conductive and dielectric properties, revealing a non-Debye relaxation behavior. The compound demonstrates low dielectric loss and a high permittivity value (ε~ 103). By addressing the scientific challenge of improving material performance for microelectronics, thisresearch advances the field and paves the way for further exploration and application of organic-inorganic hybrid materials

    No full text
International audienceThrough a case study, this book chapter raises a general epistemological question: how do geographers choose their preferred areas of study, and does their family background play a role in this choice? In the case of Aimé Perpillou, it is worth considering to what extent his Limousin origins influenced his academic writings. Part 1, entitled "A State of Knowledge Concerning Aimé Perpillou and His Geography of the Limousin", summarizes the known elements of his biography prior to the start of this research, attempting to disregard information concerning his famous stepfather, Albert Demangeon. This section also paints a picture of how Vidal de la Blache’s followers viewed the Limousin in the 1920s, when Aimé Perpillou launched his own research, and concludes with an examination of how his work on the Limousin, particularly his 1940 doctoral thesis, was received at the time. Part 2, entitled “A Methodology of Genealogical Geography”, lists the genealogical documents consulted, the people interviewed remotely, including one of Aimé Perpillou’s daughters, and finally, details the field visits. These visits allowed for on-site interviews and exploration of the specific locations of Aimé Perpillou’s family life, as well as the panoramas and places mentioned in his research on the Limousin region. Part 3, which relies on numerous maps at different scales, is entitled “Aimé Perpillou, son of Glanges or Vicq-sur-Breuilh? A genealogical geography answer”. It shows that, if one objectively quantifies the towns of birth, marriage, and death of Aimé Perpillou’s ancestors, the mapping of his family tree clearly leans towards Glanges, whereas family tradition has instead focused on the ancestors of the maternal Bancaud branch, from Vicq-sur-Breuilh, both for the mythical ancestors, one of whom is represented by a figurine in the church, and for the importance of the inn, passed down as the family home to the present-day descendants. Part 4, entitled "Towards a Reinterpretation of Aimé Perpillou’s Geographical Writings in Light of His Genealogy", delineates a triangle of preferred locations for his quotations, which is then linked to his genealogical geography. There is a striking correlation between the examples selected for his thesis, particularly in geomorphology, and the places of his childhood and his ancestors: the small Limousin region drained by the Briance River is heavily overrepresented. Tiny, otherwise unknown locations, such as the hill of Ciboeuf, are presented by Aimé Perpillou as scientific models, even though they are primarily places of genealogical family connection. It also seems that his penchant for popularizing science is linked to the importance of schoolteachers in his social circle. Part 4 concludes with a section devoted to the subjective connections between Aimé Perpillou and each of the two authors. The book chapter concludes that the fieldwork for Aimé Perpillou’s physical geography thesis and the specific locations chosen to illustrate it, particularly in geomorphology, were based at least as much on sentimental affinity, linked to his family origins and genealogy, as on scientific analysis.

Geochemistry and geochronology of the Palaeozoic mafic magmatism in the Codosera, Almadén and Guadalmez synclines, Central Iberian Zone, Spain

    No full text
International audienceThe Central Iberian Zone (CIZ) hosts several mafic suites showing variable geochemical affinities and signatures evolving through time. To provide a better understanding of magmatic processes, possible sources and the temporal evolution of the mafic magmatism in the CIZ, this work presents new geochemical and geochronological data on mafic intrusions hosted by three structures: the Guadalmez syncline (GS), the Almadén syncline (AS) and the Codosera syncline (CS). According to the U-Pb dating on apatite, the alkaline dolerites from the GS and AS were emplaced during at least two events, the first one at the end of the Silurian, and the second one during the upper Devonian to Carboniferous. The mafic rocks from the CS present a transitional affinity and were emplaced during the Carboniferous, either as a single major event around 348±33Ma or as a series of discrete events between 359 ± 22 Ma and 332 ± 17 Ma. They are therefore associated with the first stages of the Variscan orogeny. The mafic suites of the AS and GS show no evidence of crustal contamination, whereas the rocks from the CS may have experienced slight crustal contamination. All studied rocks show an enrichment in LREE, high Gd/Yb>2.9 and Ti/Y>554 ratios; likely indicating the presence of residual garnet in the mantle source. Some of the mafic rocks in this study are contemporaneous with a mafic magmatic event already reported in the Armorican Massif. This allows us to propose the existence of a widespread mafic magmatic event that took place between the Upper Devonian to the Mississippian in both the Central Iberian Zone and in the Armorican Massif at around 360 Ma.La Zone Centro Ibérique (CIZ) présente plusieurs suites mafiques ayant des signatures et des affinités géochimiques variables qui ont évoluées au cours du temps.

    No full text

Basins of attraction in a dynamical system with a time-varying control parameter: the case of attack transients in a simple model of reed musical instrument

    No full text
International audienceMultistability, a common phenomenon in dynamical systems in general and in musical instruments in particular, corresponds to the coexistence of several stable regimes for a given set of parameters. When a system is multistable, which regime is observed depends on the initial conditions on the state variables, and therefore relates to the basins of attraction. Here we consider a simple model of reed musical instrument. A bifurcation analysis shows that the system is bistable on a range of the blowing pressure, which is one of the main control parameters for the musician. In the bistability region, the boundary between basins of attraction is computed for the classical case of constant control parameters in the one hand, and for saturating ramps of the blowing pressure on the other hand. These profiles of the blowing pressure are chosen as prototypical representations of the so-called attack transients of the blowing pressure, during which the musician starts to blow in the instrument to create a musical note from silence. Attack transients are known to be of crucial importance in a musical context, yet mostly overlooked in physical models of the musician-instrument system. The separatrix between basins of attraction is computed numerically by combining time-domain simulations with a machine learning technique relying on support vector machine. Our results demonstrate that attack transients of the blowing pressure significantly affect the practical observability of the different stable regimes, suggesting that they might be used by musicians to navigate between basins. From a more general point of view, these results relate to rate-induced tipping phenomena and might therefore be of interest beyond the particular case of musical instruments.</div
