Emotions are central to young children’s development, and helping them recognize, express, and understand emotions is essential from an early age. This research explores two teaching methods used with kindergarten students (ages 5–6): one based on visual materials, and another using a multimodal approach combining role-play, storytelling, images, and guided discussions. The aim is to assess which approach better supports children in identifying, verbalizing, and understanding three negative emotions: fear, anger, and sadness. Conducted in two separate classrooms, the study reveals that while visual support is helpful for recognizing emotions, the multimodal approach is more effective in fostering emotional expression and deeper understanding. These findings highlight the benefits of a varied and interactive emotional learning experience, and they support the integration of emotional education into early childhood teaching practices.
Developing strong self-esteem is essential for academic success and personal growth, particularly for students with disabilities. Strengthening self-esteem is a key objective of the Republican school, promoted by the Ministry of National Education. This research thesis examines the impact of debates in Moral and Civic Education on the self-esteem and oral skills of students in the ULIS program. The study uses an adapted version of the Coopersmith Inventory (SEI) along with a specific evaluation grid to assess oral competencies. Results following the experiment show mixed outcomes: some students improved in certain areas of self-esteem, while others showed stability or decline. The oral skills of participants remained generally stable, raising questions about the short duration of the intervention and the potential benefits of a longer-term approach. Despite these variations, debate emerges as a valuable tool for encouraging oral expression and building self-confidence. It allows students to develop their ability to express opinions, listen actively, and engage in respectful discussion. In addition to enhancing communication, debates offer students an opportunity to grow as citizens. This practice supports the transmission of Republican school values and creates an inclusive environment where each voice can be heard and respected.
Enhancing Fuel-Cell Longevity via Multi-Objective Dynamic Programming
International audienceProton-exchange-membrane fuel cells are emerging as a key technology for clean electric vehicles. However, degradation mechanisms arising from operating conditions hinder the market entry of fuel cell electric vehicles. Therefore, an energy management strategy is crucial to optimize fuel-cell operation while minimizing both degradation and hydrogen consumption. Accordingly, this paper proposes a two-state multi-objective dynamic programming approach to address this problem. Compared to the conventional approach that considers only hydrogen consumption, the simulation results reveal a significant reduction of 98.38% in fuel-cell degradation, accompanied by a slight increase in fuel consumption. This reduction in fuel-cell degradation is achieved by limiting start-stop cycles and transient loading on the fuel-cell stack
Le calcul approché au cycle 3
Mental calculation is an important area of mathematics, and one that has a prominent place in the curriculum. However, one type of mental calculation is often overlooked (both in teaching and in the tools made available to teachers) despite its presence in the syllabus: approximate calculation. In this dissertation, we are going to try to find solutions to enable pupils to master the skills specific to this type of calculation and make it a real everyday tool. We will also be designing and testing a teaching tool specific to approximate calculation, with a view to helping teachers in their teaching.
This dissertation explores how overseas departments and communities (DROM-COM) are integrated into Cycle 3 geography curricula, from 1948 to the present day. It is based on a historical analysis of official programs, a qualitative survey of teachers in metropolitan France and Mayotte, and a teaching sequence designed to raise the profile of overseas territories in the classroom. The study highlights the long marginal and stereotyped integration of these territories, often reduced to descriptive or exotic approaches. Despite positive developments in recent texts, teaching practices remain heterogeneous, hampered by a lack of training, resources and prioritization. The sequence proposed in the third section aims to illustrate a more contextualized, inclusive and active approach, using the example of Mayotte. This work underlines the importance of better recognition of France's territorial diversity to build a more representative, equitable and civic-minded school.
Optimal energy management for an hybrid vehicle based on SOFC with anode gas recirculation and waste heat recovery system
International audienceThe electrification of vehicles is a promising solution for reducing pollution in the automotivesector, but range limitations remain a challenge. This study explores an optimal energy managementstrategy for an electric vehicle and a range-extender system composed by a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell(SOFC) integrated with a waste heat recovery system and anode gas recirculation to enhance efficiency. The SOFC system is complemented by a waste heat recovery system to optimize energy utilization. Byincorporating anode gas recirculation, unreacted hydrogen is reintroduced, improving overall efficiencyat low hydrogen flow rates, despite dilution of the channel with water. Two energy management strategiesare analyzed: one optimizing hydrogen usage by maximizing SOFC efficiency and another balancingSOFC and waste heat recovery power outputs. Two optimal control problems are formulated, aiming tominimize hydrogen consumption while maintaining system constraints. Simulation results demonstratethe potential of gas recirculation and optimal control strategies to significantly enhance system efficiencyand vehicle rang

Machine Learning Based-Proactive Caching for Cellular Networks
International audienceProactive caching is crucial for optimizing cellular network performance by predicting and prefetching user-requested content. This study investigates cache priority prediction using three classifiers: SVM, KNN, and Random Forest. The dataset comprises 2621 samples categorized into three classes: Low, Medium, and High cache priority. The models were evaluated using accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. The SVM classifier achieved the highest accuracy of 97%, along with precision (95%), recall (89%), and F1-score (92%), demonstrating its superior predictive capability. The KNN classifier followed with an accuracy of 94%, precision (91%), recall (92%), and F1-score (91%). The Random Forest classifier achieved an accuracy of 88%, with precision, recall, and F1-score values of 85%. The experimental results indicate that SVM outperformed the other classifiers across all evaluation metrics. Future research could focus on exploring alternative classifiers and optimizing current models to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of cache priority prediction
International audienceThe Abou Al-Aswad watershed, covering 148 km² in southwestern Lebanon, experiences intensified water erosion due to deforestation, inappropriate agricultural practices, and a semi-arid climate. To quantify soil losses, this study employs Gavrilović’s Erosion Potential Method (EPM) (1962). Soil erodibility was further assessed using the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE), while erosion dynamics were determined via the Bare Soil Index. Within the GIS environment, the combination of model parameters indicates that soil losses may reach up to 13000 m³·km⁻², particularly in areas lacking protective vegetation cover and erosion-control measures. Conversely, the slopes cultivated along contour lines show losses of less than 1000 m³·km⁻² (a thickness of 1 mm). To validate these estimates, the computed volumes were converted to equivalent thickness in millimeters. Comparison with in situ measurements, obtained using metal rods, confirms the model’s overall reliability, although localized discrepancies remain owing to variations in slope and vegetation cover. The EPM proves to be a robust tool for assessing erosion risk at the watershed scale, provided its parameters are precisely calibrated to local conditions. A regular monitoring program, combining field measurements and remote-sensing observations, is essential to continuously update and refine soil-management strategies.
