Factors Affecting Intention to Use Food Order-Delivery Feature of Ride-Hailing Applications: The UTAUT Approach
Since ride-hailing platforms in Indonesia provide food order-delivery feature, there has been a change in public spending behavior from conventional to electronic, even on the most basic element, i.e., food. The purpose of this study is to identify critical factors affecting consumers’ adoption of ride-hailing applications to buy food using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) approach. This study uses a cross-sectional design with a non-probability sampling method. Data was collected from self-administered questionnaire, resulting a total sample of 315 respondents across Indonesia. The respondents are GrabFood and GoFood consumers and the food order-delivery feature of Grab and Gojek (the ride-hailing applications). The study employs PLS-SEM technique to analyze the relationships among variables. The findings show performance expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions positively influence behavioral intention to use food order-delivery features in ride-hailing applications. On the other hand, effort expectancy does not influence behavioral intention. The results corroborate the role of food-order feature of ride-hailing applications in the change of Indonesian consumer behavior. Referring to the study results, theoretical contributions and practical implications are provided
Fish Diversity and Water Quality Parameters of Mechi River, Jhapa, Province No. 1, Nepal
Species diversity is widely recognised as an important trait of functioning and resilient ecosystem. Spatio-temporal patterns of fish community structure in the Mechi River was studied based on stratified random survey, conducted between September 2018 and April 2019. The survey was conducted at three different sampling stations in three different seasons. For the fish sampling, two cast nets of different sizes were used, one having large mesh size of 0.5 cm, 3 m diameter and 2 kg weight and another having mesh size of 2 cm, 6 m diameter and 6 kg weight. In addition, drag net and gill net were also used to collect the fish samples. A total of 1,772 fishes belonging to 4 orders, 8 families, 16 genera and 33 species were documented. The results from the similarity percentage analysis indicated that, the species Schistura devdevi, Brachydanio rerio, Puntius sophore, Barilius barila, Schistura beveani and Puntius terio were the most copious fish species recorded from the Mechi River. One-way analysis of similarity testing for space and time variations in fish community indicated that there was a significant difference in space (R = 0.66, p<0.01) but no significant difference in time (R = -0.0123, p>0.433). The Canonical Correspondence Analysis hinted that dissolved oxygen, water velocity and pH have shown to influence the fish assemblage structure in Mechi River
Gastropods in the Intertidal Shore of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (Malaysian Borneo)
Intertidal gastropods provide numerous ecological benefits and are responsible for the dynamics of the intertidal shores habitat and its community assemblages. This study examined the community structure of gastropods in the intertidal shore located near the city of Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah where coastal areas are rapidly developed for various purposes and consequently destroying natural habitats. A total of 36 gastropods species from 15 families were recorded. The Planaxis sulcatus was the most abundant species with a density of 480 ind. m-2 followed by Nodilittorina pyramidalis (182 ind. m-2) and Cellana radiata (97 ind. m-2) respectively. The number of species and their abundance, respectively, are almost three times lower than the number ever recorded for intertidal shores located in non-urban areas or remote locations. This suggests that the rapidly growing coastal urban areas threatening the diversity and abundance of intertidal gastropods. The density of gastropod (i.e. P. sulcatus & N. pyramidalis) was significantly (p<0.05) high at the lower intertidal shore where slope gradient is steeper with rocks and crevices are the major component of substrates compared to the upper or middle zone which is flatter and composed mainly of coral rubble and sand. Our study suggests that gastropod communities in intertidal shores located adjacent to the urban areas are threatened especially by anthropogenic factors such as frequent human visitations and modification of natural habitat. Future development in the intertidal shore should minimise habitat destruction and should consider infrastructures that encourage gastropod populations to grow and highlighting their ecological role for conservation reasons
Note on Historical Records, Geographical Distribution, and Ecological Characteristics of a Mud Lobster, Thalassina anomala (Herbst, 1804) (Decapoda, Gebiidea, Thalassinidae) in Sarawak, Borneo
The presence of mud lobster mounds is a common natural feature along coastal areas and tidal influence habitats in Sarawak. However, the number of species of mud lobsters that constructed the mounds is yet to be ascertained. This paper reviews historical records and geographical distribution of mud lobster in Sarawak from various forms of literature. The early records of mud lobster were from Buntal in Kuching, and Lingga in Sri Aman back more than 130 years ago. A few other records were reported from the central and northern regions of Sarawak between 1928 and 2019. All these records have identified mud lobster of Sarawak as Thalassina anomala (Herbst, 1804). Our present study at two sites in Buntal area with a careful examination of morphological characters of fresh specimens has confirmed the taxonomy of the species and its existence in the area. Some ecological characteristics of the mud lobster, such as size variation, population density, and mound characteristics, are also discussed. The present study also found that construction of massive mounds by mud lobster has posed a conflict to farmers and coastal communities at Buntal area, who regarded the animal as a pest. On the other hand, research on the potential medicinal value of mud lobster in Sarawak is growing. This implies that accurate taxonomy and comprehensive ecological data of T. anomala are necessary to support best practices of mud lobster pest management and sustainable harvesting of the animal for medicinal purposes, which eventually lead to conserving the animal
The Role of National Food Security in a Massive Pandemic: The Case of Covid-19
This paper proposes the national pandemics contingency plan for any country based on the application of the minimum food, water & medication storage for a massive pandemic quota (ψ-Quota). Consequently, the main objective of the ψ-Quota is to calculate the approximate amount of food, water, and medicines storage amount annually in case of a possible massive pandemic crisis. Finally, this paper is divided into three sections: (i) the minimum food, water, and medicine quota storage calculation in case of a massive pandemic; (ii) the food, water, and medicine storage quota for a massive pandemic; (iii) the geographical distribution and mapping of the emergency aid supplier’s modules in case of a massive pandemic for any country. Finally, the ψ-Quota was applied on the case of Malaysia
Research on the Influencing Factors of Chinese Family Business's Succession from the Perspective of Re-Creation
Under the background of great changes in China's economic environment, a large number of small and medium-sized family businesses are in urgent need of transformation and upgrading that entering the channel of re-creation. For the family business, the successor signifies the future development direction and growth trend of the business. The inter-generational succession of the family business is a multistage evolution process influenced by many factors. In the specific succession practice of family businesses, the influence of the succession of family businesses is analyzed from the perspective of re-creation in combination with the actual situation. Based on the theory analysis on influencing factors of family business’s succession and the way of the questionnaire and factor analysis measure, the research had found and explained the major influencing factors of Chinese family business's succession, namely, relationship, successor, creator, re-creation, organization, environment. It provided a reference on the inter-generational succession of Chinese family businesses from the perspective of re-creation
Board of Directors Effectiveness, Voluntary Integrated Reporting and Cost of Equity: Evidence from OECD Countries
This study aims to examine the effect of the board of directors effectiveness on the level of integrated reporting disclosure. The study also examined the effect of the level of disclosure on integrated reporting on cost of equity. Further, examine the effect of the board of directors effectiveness on cost of equity through the level of disclosure of integrated reporting. Board of directors effectiveness which is a corporate governance structure can be seen from the components of independence, activity, size and competence. Hypothesis testing is carried out by using a Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) model of 373 observations (firm-year) with the sample taken from more than 20 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries where the companies listed on The International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) during the period 2015-2017. The results of this study evidence that the level of integrated reporting disclosure has an effect on reducing the company cost of equity. However, the result for the influence of the board of directors effectiveness are still mixed. The findings indicate that the effectiveness of the board of directors does not affect the level of integrated reporting disclosure. And there is no significant influence between board of directors effectiveness, level of integrated reporting disclosure and cost of equity. Perhaps one of the factors for this lack of influence is that the sample data in this study are companies that are still voluntarily disclosing their integrated reporting so that the board of directors still does not feel pressured to disclose integrated reporting. And in the end it cannot yet be seen in relation to the decrease in equity costs
Rural Bank and Regional Economic Development: Evidence from Indonesia
This paper investigates the relationship between fund reallocation on economic growth and poverty by using 1860 rural banks. Our quarterly data allow us to merge bank-level data and province level-data from 2010-2016. We find that loan-to-deposit ratio as our proxy of intermediation function could boost economic development. Our non-linear regression shows that too much finance reduces regional GDP growth but, in the long term, could help to reduce poverty. Our results provide some important policy implications that rural banks could contribute to economic development in a good way but should be highly supervised in terms of risk and competition
Analysing Educational Campaign’s Outcome in Donation-Based Crowdfunding: Social Capital as a Determinant Factor
A new financing alternative, known as crowdfunding, has expanded rapidly. Not all crowdfunding projects or campaigns can successfully reach the desired funding amount. Many studies have shown that social capital is a determinant of crowdfunding success, and some of it could be applied to the education domain. This study investigates the influence of the multidimensional social capital on the donation-based crowdfunding within the scope of educational campaigns belonging to higher education institutions students. This study uses the primary data extracted from the Skolafund crowdfunding site, a specialised third-party platform for higher education. This study, using the theory of multidimensional social capital as the theoretical foundation, develops a logit model linking all three social capital dimensions. The findings imply that only two social capital dimensions, namely structural and relational, are significant factors influencing the crowdfunding success likelihood. This study also finds that campaigns with lower funding targets are more likely to succeed. The practical implications of this study suggest the students should leverage their social capital to increase the fundraising amount. Higher education institutions also should consider to set up their crowdfunding platforms quickly or encourage students to utilise a third-party platform, such as Skolafund
Market Structure and Profitability: Evidence in the Indonesian Islamic Insurance Industry
There is limited research about the relationship between market structure and profitability in the insurance industry, especially in the Islamic insurance industry. This study examines the relationship among market structure and profitability in Islamic life insurance industry in Indonesia. This research used regression with panel data for the technique of analysis. The model used in this research was the fixed effect model. The result shows that the market structure affected the profitability of Islamic life insurance industry. This result implies that the traditional hypothesis supports the performance of Islamic life insurance industry in Indonesia. However, this research shows that there is no collusive behavior in Islamic life insurance industry in Indonesia. Meanwhile, for control variables, operational efficiency has an adverse effect on the performance of Islamic life insurance industry in Indonesia
