Distribution of Commercially Important Edible Mollusc (Bivalvia and Gastropoda) from Six Districts of Terengganu, Malaysia: Edible molluscs from Terengganu, Malaysia
Terengganu has a large coastal and wetland area where it provides habitat for edible mollusc. The edible molluscs are one of the most important sources of animal protein for the local communities. The distribution of edible molluscs was studied in six districts of the Terengganu coastal waters between August 2020 and March 2022. In each district, samples were purchased from the wet market, fishing villages and roadside outlets every four months interval. A total of 1,043 individuals was observed and 23 species of edible molluscs were recorded from six districts of Terengganu representing 11 families. Bivalves were found to be dominated by 14 species from seven families. The family Cyrenidae (bivalve) was widespread in five districts where Geloina expansa, was recorded in almost all districts. Meanwhile, for gastropods, nine species from four families were found where Ellobiidae (gastropod) was dominant and the most common gastropod species was Faunus ater, which was found in four locations in Terengganu. These species have great commercial value in Terengganu districts as they are sought extensively as food by the locals and also represent one of their sources of financial survival, especially for those living near to coastal areas. This baseline study could serve as a future indicator for the sustainable management of fisheries resources and for further ecological studies
THE MEDIATING ROLE OF CONFLICT MANAGEMENT STYLES ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JOB CHARACTERISTICS AND EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE
The COVID-19 virus leading to the pandemic has highly impacted many sectors, including the business sector. The pandemic and all forms of movement control orders by the authorities affecting low employee performance affect the Malaysian economy significantly. Therefore, this study examines the possible factors leading to high employee performance within SMEs. They are critical to work future, not only for creating jobs and developing the economy but also for driving market competition and innovation. The study’s respondents consist of employees in the SME sector. This study employs a quantitative method. A set of questionnaires was distributed to 287 respondents. This study used AMOS’s Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) to analyse the data. The study’s findings indicate that job characteristics and conflict management styles are significantly associated with employee performance. Moreover, conflict management styles mediate the relationship between job characteristics and employee performance. In this study, employee performance is essential to every organisation and helps increase productivity and improve customer service quality
THE VAR EVALUATION OF SHARIAH STOCK MARKET IN MALAYSIA DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC BY USING CONDITIONAL EVT METHOD
In the current financial market, the Islamic stock market faced with a significant challenge to sustain and maintain its stability in intensified market volatility and unexpected extreme events. It can reduce the intensity and occurrence of financial crises by eliminating the primary vulnerabilities of the conventional system. This paper aims to identify the most effective method in risk evaluation by presenting the risk evaluation performance between conventional and Islamic stock market that focusing on extreme events in stock market returns. The data analysis is divided into two periods: normal and crisis COVID-19 periods. The empirical analysis, conducted within the sample employs the conditional extreme value theory (EVT) method that combine the filtered series of GARCH and EGARCH models. This filtered series will be used to generate the threshold by using the peak-over-threshold (POT) method. This threshold then will be used to estimate the generalized Pareto distribution (GPD) distribution to forecast the one-day ahead value-at-risk (VaR). The findings indicate that, in Shariah stock markets, the conditional EVT model demonstrates superior performance in forecasting stock market risk compared to the standard GARCH and EGARCH models
NON-LINEAR EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE ON OIL PALM YIELD: A NOTE BASED ON PANEL THRESHOLD ANALYSIS
The effect of climate change on agriculture and food production has emerged as one of the major concerns of major global economies, especially given that the global population is projected to reach 10.9 billion people by the end of the 21st century (United Nations, 2019). Crops react differently to climate change and hence it is crucial to understand its effect on specific agricultural plants. Specifically, the impact of climate change on agriculture yield may not be linear. As such, this study investigated the impact of climate factors on oil palm yield using state level data from Malaysia. The results suggested that temperature and oil palm yield have a non-linear inverted U-shaped relationship. In addition, rainfall has a positive impact on oil palm yield
ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES AND TRADE COMPETITIVENESS: THE MALAYSIAN PALM OIL DOWNSTREAM INDUSTRY
This paper explore how export competitiveness in the Malaysian palm oil downstream industry is affected by European Union (EU) environmental regulation. Porter (1990) suggests that environmental policies may foster international competitiveness. To investigate the impact of EU environmental policies on trade competitiveness in the Malaysian palm oil downstream industry, the dynamic generalized method of moments (DGMM) is employed. The final results reveal that EU environmental regulations have a positive impact on palm oil industry competitiveness. This result is consistent with the Porter Hypothesis, which argues that a more stringent environmental regulation can trigger innovation to non-compliance cost. Palm oil downstream innovation is crucial to improve the overall competitiveness of the industry, including the smallholders’ sector. This implies that the Malaysian government may want to introduce certain measures, such as energy taxes to promote the use of renewable energy. This may lead to more sustainable palm oil production which may improve the overall competitiveness of the palm oil downstream industry
THE MULTIDIMENSIONAL OUTCOMES OF HAPPINESS AT WORK WHEN THERE IS NO EXPLICIT STRATEGY: THE VIEWS OF B2C EMPLOYEES
Happiness at work has been increasingly attracting the attention of academics and human resources managers. Literature on the topic provides clear evidence of the benefits for companies resulting from the adoption of strategies that promote happiness among employees. Despite its growing popularity, companies that define and implement a happiness strategy within their internal marketing are still scarce, particularly small and medium companies (SMEs). This paper illustrates the impact of happiness at work perceived by employees of SMEs at three levels: in themselves, in customers, and in the business’s success, in the particular case of companies that do not implement such strategies. The research question was: what is the perception of employees on happiness at work outcomes when the company has no explicit strategy to promote it? This article includes a qualitative study comprising twelve semi-structured interviews with employees who directly deal with customers while working in various B2C companies that do not have a defined strategy to stimulate happiness at work. The study shows employees’ acknowledgment of the multidimensional impacts of happiness at work, which makes them more motivated, productive, and more able to influence their relationships with customers positively. Based on these findings, even when lacking clear corporate strategies to improve happiness at work, the company is still expected to benefit in terms of customer loyalty and overall profitability, as well as in terms of employees’ affective commitment
BUREAUCRATIC BEHAVIOUR, AND ITS INFLUENCE TOWARDS COMPETITIVENESS – ANALYSING THE SUPPLY CHAIN OF BANGLADESHI CLOTHING INDUSTRY
Distribution systems are becoming increasingly complex and dynamic in business in the consumer market of clothing or Readymade Garments (RMG) products. There are many exterior influencing elements like political action (PA), country risk (CR), and bureaucratic behaviours (BB) that are influencing the clothing supply chain and posing threats to its competitiveness. A research question has developed to know how BB activities affect competitiveness. Based on this research question, this research aims to determine BB’s influence on the competitiveness of the clothing supply chain. Stakeholder philosophies and resource dependence theory have been considered to develop a hypothesis in this study. The Quantitative research method was applied in this study. The data were collected through a field survey. Partial Least Squire (PLS) based Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used to analyse collected data. Seven hypotheses were developed in this research. Among them, five hypotheses are supported, and two hypotheses are not supported. In addition, mediation test results are not reflected as positive. The findings are discussed in detail in the discussion and implementation part of this study. The clothing (RMG) industry of Bangladesh could implement the result to improve competitiveness
CLICK-AND-DRIVE E-TAILING SERVICE: CONSUMERS’ PERCEIVED CONVENIENCE AND COST
E-tailing, coupled with the rise of internet mobility, allows cross-shopping options with different types of methods to receive goods, such as the click-and-drive model, to suit the modern lifestyle. Individuals with time pressures and constraints, such as those subject to long working hours or other commitments that take up much of their day, may find click-and-drive a convenient option. This paper investigates the influences of unobserved factors such as perceived convenience, travel time, travel distance, time pressure, product quality risk, and perceived relative advantage, as well as observed factors such as demographic factors, on the likelihood of using click-and-drive for grocery shopping, based on the utility theory. Ordered probit estimation on cross-sectional data collected from 351 respondents revealed that the potential to save time as well as perceived convenience and relative advantage increase the likelihood of consumers using click-and-drive for their shopping. Perceived product quality risk is a deterrent against the adoption of click-and-drive services. Consumers are generally uncomfortable buying perishable items, such as fish, via online channels. The findings have valuable implications for retailers intending to establish and improve click-and-drive offerings, especially with the aim of achieving contact-free transactions post-COVID-19
A BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS ON TURNOVER INTENTION
The study aimed to examine past study publication trends for turnover intention over 39 (thirty-nine) years (1982 to 2021). Bibliometric analysis was conducted through the searching method on the Scopus database. The search string for the Scopus database was conducted systematically. A total of 2215 documents were identified and screened for the scope of this study. Data screening was performed, and no duplicates were found in the document list. Therefore, 445 documents were removed. A total of 1770 published articles were analysed using Microsoft Excel, VOSviewer, and Harzing’s Publish or Perish. The analysis revealed that the study of turnover intentions displays an increasing trend annually. The majority of articles are published in English, whereas the United States of America (USA) generated the highest number of publications. Osman M. Karatepe is the author with the highest number of publications and article citations in this analysis. The Journal of Vocational Behavior has the highest citation impact. In addition, a well-known publication entitled "Job Satisfaction, Organizational Commitment, Turnover Intention, and Turnover: Path Analyses Based on Meta-Analytic Findings" authored by Tett and Meyer (1993) has the highest citation with 65.21 per year. Concepts related to turnover intention such as job satisfaction, nurses, organizational commitment, turnover and burnout were the most frequently studied. In addition, this study also contributed to historical development, scientific development and identified research gaps to be filled in the future
THE IMPACT OF BANKING RELATIONSHIP ON FIRM PERFORMANCE: EVIDENCE FROM HO CHI MINH STOCK EXCHANGE, VIETNAM
This study aimed to investigate how close banking relationships affect Vietnamese public listed firms’ financial performance based on the empirical evidence of 172 companies listed on Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange in the period 2017 – 2019. Regression models, including Pooled Ordinary Least Square (OLS), Fix Effects Model (FEM) and Random Effects Model (REM) were explored to test the proposed hypotheses. The results indicated that banking relationships have advantages that outweigh disadvantages, which brings a positive impact on firm performance. These results suggested that firms should pay attention to the quality of the banking relationships instead of seeking for negotiation power and diversity in sources of funds
