No full textThe northern and southern nesting beaches of the Karpaz Peninsula, Northern Cyprus, were investigated for two consecutive breeding seasons (2022 – 2023). A total of 10604 emergences were reported, with 2945 (27.8%) resulting in nests during two consecutive nesting seasons. Of these nests, 2885 (97.6%) were green turtle nests, whilst the remaining were loggerhead turtle nests. There were five major nesting beaches (Ronnas, Ayphilon, Dolphin, Ýkidere, and Laden) which held more than 80% of the nests. Nest counts increased by 539% at these beaches using the IUCN MTSG Red List assessment technique, which compares the change in nest counts between the oldest (1993 – 1995) and most current 3-year averages (1189 nests). The overall hatching success ranged from 62.6 to 70.7% for green turtle nests. The annual depredation of nests was predominantly by foxes, with the depredation percentages ranging from 18.6% to 23.6%. These results emphasise the significance of Karpaz Peninsula beaches in relation to other Mediterranean breeding locations, positioning Ronnas beach as the second most crucial nesting site for green turtles in the Mediterranean, only behind Samandað beach in Türkiye

No full textBüyülü olanın göze batmadan ve sorgulanmadan metinlerde gerçekçi bir üslupla ortaya konması olarak ifade edilebilecek Büyülü gerçeklik, yirminci yüzyılda Latin Amerika’da ortaya çıkar. Latin edebiyatının en verimli dönemlerine denk gelen bu yeni edebi akımın veya anlatım tarzının en belirgin yönü gerçek ile gerçek dışının bir arada verilmesi ve bunun eserin kurgusu içerisinde oldukça olağan karşılanmasıdır. Büyülü gerçeklik, oluşum ve gelişim sürecinde folklorik unsurlarla derin bir bağ kurması dışında yirminci yüzyılda Postmodernizm ile de ilişkilerini güçlendirir. Büyülü gerçeklik metinlerinde genel olarak bu üç unsur birlikte kullanır. Büyülü gerçeklik kavramıyla Türk edebiyatının tanışması 1980’li yıllardır. Bu sebeple Büyülü gerçeklik, Türk edebiyatı için yeni bir kavram olarak nitelendirilebilir. Bu kavram çerçevesinde değerlendirebilecek eserlerden biri de Ayhan Koç’un Sırlıçeşme romanıdır. Sırlıçeşme, yazarın ilk romanıdır. Yapıt, romana adını veren Sırlıçeşme etrafında gelişen olayları konu alır. Romanda kurgu iki şekilde yol alır. İlk kısım gerçeküstü olayların işlendiği ve masalsı unsurların ağır bastığı kısımdır. İkinci kısım ise Fikret’in üniversiteyi kazanıp gitmesiyle başlayan 1980’lerin 1990’ların gerçek, korkunç yüzünün bu masalsı diyara yansımasını işler.Magical realism, which can be described as the presentation of the magical in a realistic style without being conspicuous or questioned, emerged in Latin America in the twentieth century. The most distinct characteristic of this new literary movement or narrative style, which coincides with the most productive periods of Latin literature, is the coexistence of reality and the fantastical, and the fact that this is perceived as quite normal within the structure of the work. Besides establishing a deep connection with folkloric elements during its formation and development, Magical Realism also strengthens its relationships with Postmodernism in the twentieth century. In Magical Realism texts, these three elements are generally used together. The concept of Magical Realism first encountered Turkish literature in the1980s. For this reason, Magical Realism can be considered a new concept for Turkish literature. One of the works that can be analyzed within this framework is Ayhan Koç's novel The Mysterious Fountain. The Mysterious Fountain is the author's first novel. The work centers around the events that unfold around the Mysterious Fountain, which gives the novel its title. The narrative progresses in two ways. The first part deals with surreal events and is dominated by fairy-tale elements. The second part reflects the harsh and terrifying reality of the1980s and1990s, beginning with Fikret's acceptance to university and his departure, and how this reality is mirrored in the fairy-tale realm
