Correlation between lattice distortions and flux pinning behavior in benzene-doped Fe-sheathed MgB2 wires

No full text
This study investigates the effects of benzene-derived carbon doping on the structural and superconducting properties of Fe-sheathed MgB2 wires fabricated by the in-situ PIT method. Differential scanning calorimetry showed that benzene addition shifts the MgB2 formation temperature and reduces reaction enthalpy, indicating modified phase formation. X-ray diffraction confirmed lattice parameter changes due to partial carbon substitution, while EDX revealed locally limited carbon distribution. AC magnetic susceptibility and magnetization measurements demonstrated that doping enhanced the irreversibility field and critical current density, especially at high fields. Dew-Hughes model analysis showed that the flux pinning mechanism shifted from point pinning in the pure sample to surface pinning in the doped wires. These improvements result from combined lattice distortions and phase effects caused by the aromatic carbon source. The findings highlight benzene as an effective carbon dopant for tailoring flux pinning behavior and improving the high-field performance of MgB2 superconductors, despite potential carbon inhomogeneity

A new solifuge of the genus Gylippus (Paragylippus) from Turkey (Solifugae: Gylippidae)

A new solifuge species of Gylippinae Roewer, 1933, Gylippus (Paragylippus) ozdinci sp.n., is described and illustrated on the basis of both sexes from the Hakkari province, very close to the peak of the Cilo-Sat Mountains, the second highest mountain in Turkey. The detailed characteristics of both sexes are discussed and compared with related Gylippus (Paragylippus) species. </p

The aim of this study is to examine the critical thinking dispositions and academic self-efficacy of prospective child development students in terms of different variables. The sample of this study, whose data were collected with two separate scales, consists of 211 students studying at associate degree or undergraduate level in child development programs at 7 different universities. In general, it was observed that both the critical thinking dispositions and academic self-efficacy of the prospective child development students were above the scale averages. In the grade level variable, it was found that the participants studying in the 2nd and 4th grades were better than those studying in the 1st and 3rd grades in terms of cognitive maturity, which is one of the dimensions of critical thinking disposition. It was determined that the participants who spent their childhood in the neighborhood or village had a higher tendency to think critically than the participants who spent their childhood in apartments or estates. It has been noticed that the increase in the time spent by the participants for the screens causes negativity in cognitive maturity, innovation and cognitive practices. Apart from this, it has been determined that the amount of time allocated to daily reading has a positive contribution to critical thinking and academic self-efficacy, and that there is a significant and high level relationship between academic self-efficacy and critical thinking

Estimation of the Effect of Oblique Positioned Obstacle Placement on Thermal Performance of a Horizontal Mantle Hot Water Tank with Machine Learning

No full text
Due to the growing popularity of vacuum tube solar collectors and their more esthetically pleasing look, horizontal hot water tanks are increasingly being used in solar hot water systems. In order to improve the thermal performance of a horizontal mantled hot water tank, this work numerically examines the impact of positioning inclination barriers parallel or coincident to one another at varying angles. The main input provided the velocity V = 0.036, 0.073, 0.11, and 0.147 m/s, and analysis were performed for each speed. The study concluded that V = 0.073 m/s was the ideal mains input velocity for each scenario and that raising the speed typically resulted in a lower mains outlet temperature. According to the study’s findings, the tank design with the first obstacle 150 mm away and the two obstacles 100 mm apart achieves the best efficiency. The residential water temperature in this model is 312 K, while the storage water temperature is 309.5 K. In this study, a feed-forward artificial neural network (ANN) model based predictor was designed to estimate the mantle outlet and main outlet temperatures and the temperature of the stored water. Analyses were performed for different network inlet velocities and obstacle combinations, and ANN showed superior performance in estimating temperature parameters.</p

Use of Space and Movement Patterns of Reproductive Female Green Turtles (Chelonia mydas) From Akyatan Rookery in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea

No full text
For threatened animals with distinct breeding and foraging areas, it is important to identify key habitats for appropriate conservation and management. Turkey rookeries represent the northernmost limits for green turtle breeding activity, though knowledge about their post-breeding distributions is limited to date. We tracked 14 adult female green turtles breeding at Akyatan Beach, Turkey, using satellite transmitters. Ten turtles successfully reached five foraging areas along the Egyptian and Libyan coasts. Two turtles stopped over at Bardawil Lake and the Gulf of Sirte, while signals from two others were lost between the Gulf of Arab and the Gulf of Bomba. Migration ranged from 13 to 53 days (mean 31 days) at mean speeds of 2.2 km/h. The home ranges of 13 green turtles during the inter-nesting period were located along the eastern Mediterranean bordering the Turkish coast. The mean core home range was 22.07 ± 24.22 km2 (range = 2–82 km2), and the core home ranges of female individuals during the inter-nesting period were focussed along the shores of Akyatan Beach. At the foraging sites, two turtles had strongly overlapping core home ranges at Lake Bardawil. Similarly, the home ranges of two turtles in Libya also showed significant overlap in the Gulf of Sirte. To effectively protect green sea turtles in this region, conservation efforts should focus not only on breeding areas but also on foraging sites
