Leveraging the transformative power of artificial intelligence for effective and sustainable curriculum development in Nigeria
The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education has the potential to transform traditional curriculum development processes, offering innovative solutions to enhance learning outcomes. This paper explores the impact of AI on curriculum design, focusing on its potential to personalize learning experiences, streamline administrative tasks, and provide data-driven insights for continuous improvement. The utilization of AI technologies offers opportunities for educators to create adaptive curricula that cater to diverse student needs, fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment. Additionally, the paper examines various AI applications in curriculum development, including intelligent tutoring systems, predictive analytics, and automated content creation. Nonetheless, despite its numerous benefits, the integration of AI into curriculum design presents several challenges. These include concerns over data privacy, ethical considerations regarding AI-generated content, the risk of reducing human oversight in curriculum decision-making, and the digital divide that limits access to AI-driven educational tools in under-resourced regions. Furthermore, the complexity of AI systems requires specialized expertise, posing challenges for educators with limited technical proficiency. To address these challenges, this paper suggests implementing clear ethical guidelines for AI-driven curriculum development, enhancing teacher training programs to equip educators with AI literacy, and fostering collaborations between educational institutions and technology developers to create user-friendly AI tools. Additionally, policies should be put in place to ensure equitable access to AI resources and preventing further educational disparities

FACTORS INHIBITING THE TEACHING AND LEARNING OF FRENCH IN NIGERIA: THE CROSS CULTURAL PERSPECTIVE
French language has been in existence as far back as the 6th Century. It is ancient as the world itself. The language is foreign, widely accepted and spoken by native speakers and foreigners all over the globe. French is a beautiful language, well loved by all races. There is no continent in the world where its speakers cannot be found, therefore, the importance of French language as a medium of communication cannot be over emphasized. Based on this, globalization has turned the entire world into a global village through scientific and technological innovations which are capable of enhancing the teaching and learning of French. Besides, African culture is dynamic, ever-changing and ready to accommodate foreign cultures. Previous studies on challenges and opportunities of globalization and African culture have been carried out extensively but with little attention paid to their impacts on the teaching and learning of French as a second official language in Nigeria. This paper is therefore designed to examine their relevance on French language with a view to determining future prospects on Nigerian youths. The study adopts cultural hybridity as a theoretical framework that helps to understand the functional nature of globalization and African culture. It also adopts close reading techniques as a methodology which gives us the opportunity to examine critically the essence of cross-cultural interactions in global world. This presentation examines the concept of globalization and African culture. It discusses the importance of French language. It analyses the positive and negative impact of globalization on African culture in teaching and learning of French as a second official language in Nigeria. Finally, it states the factors militating against the growth of French in Nigeria and the practical solution to its growth. The paper concludes that the importance of French cannot be over emphasised given the large number of speakers globally and also considering its growing impacts on education, culture & civilization & science & technology
The Perennial Conflicts and the Agonies of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Southern Part of Borno State, Nigeria
Borno State is regarded as the hotbed of Boko Haram activities in Nigeria since 1999; all mechanisms deployed by the government to achieve peaceful co-existence proved abortive. This is causing untold hardship for the inhabitants within the conflict areas. With the efforts being put in place by the federal government and state governments to alleviate the suffering of the affected people, the reality on the ground has shown that a large number of the victims are still languishing in IDP camps. In southern Borno, IDP camps are mainly located in three (3) Local Government Areas: Damboa, Gwoza, and Biu. Most of the victims who are lucky enough to recount their ordeals are presently in these three LGAs. Biu and its environs will be fully examined to analyse the agonies of IDPs in the conflict zones within southern Borno. The study focuses on the issues influencing the perennial attacks and the agonies of internally displaced persons in IDP camps. Despite the efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces to put an end to this ugly trend, the pushback by the terrorists in the affected Local Government Areas in southern Borno is still visible. This is causing untold hardship for the victims. The research method used for this study is qualitative and relies on both primary and secondary sources. The primary source utilized is oral interviews, while the secondary sources are written documents
Interplay of Digital Media and Democracy: An Analysis of Politics of Twitter Ban in Nigeria
This paper investigates the positions of state and non-state actors during the ban of Twitter by the Nigerian government between June 4, 2021 and January 13, 2022. It answers questions about whether non-state actors resisted the ban due to Twitter\u27s contributions to democratic, civic space, and economic growth, and whether state actors considered the medium a threat to the country\u27s unity and sovereignty with supportive evidence. Conflict theory and the Advocacy Coalition Framework are used as theoretical and analytical frameworks to explore the different beliefs and interests of the actors involved. The study found that the ban generated a series of reactions from these actors, leading to the development of three forms of narratives from the policy and advocacy coalition beliefs. The study concludes that examining the views of state and non-state actors during the ban period provides insights into the different interests, beliefs, and values that shape policy conflicts.

Human Empowerment: A Case Study of Tijāniyyah Grassroots Mobilization and Empowerment Initiative of Nigeria (TIGMEIN) Osun State, Nigeria
Tijāniyyah is one of the groups in Sūfi Islamic order. Sufism or Tasawwuf, has its root in the early days of Islam, i.e., it is as old as Islam, but its transformation as a distinct movement occurred over time. Tijāniyyah Sufi order was founded by Ahmad al-Tijani (1735-1815). The name Tijaniyyah is derived from his name “Al-Tijani”, which refers to his birthplace, Tijani, a small village in Algeria. The order came to Nigeria at a very early stage, perhaps during the lifetime of its founder. The order has faced criticism and controversy from some scholars and groups, who accuse it of introducing innovations (bid’ah) in Islam. This paper aims to unveil its contributions and how its empowerment programme benefited the people of Osun State. It also unearths the roles and activities of the Tijāniyyah Grassroots Mobilization and Empowerment Initiative of Nigeria (TIGMEIN), Osun State. The research used analytical method as well as survey method to achieve its set objectives. Findings from the study show that the group (TIGMEIN) under the umbrella of the Osun State Tijāniyyah Sūfi order has organised different trainings across all local government areas of Osun State to secure jobs for teeming unemployed youth and alleviate poverty in the State. The work therefore recommends that members of the group put in more effort to sustain the programme and that government, as well as other organisations in the State and Nigeria at large, should also assist the programme
The Role of the Youth in Shaping Ethnic and Religious Identity and Political Governance in Nigeria between 2000 – 2020
Nigeria’s rapidly expanding population has led to a substantial increase in its youth demographic, with individuals aged 15–35 accounting for over 30% of the total populace. This significant proportion positions youths as key actors in the country’s political, social, and economic spheres. Ideally, such a youthful population should translate into a productive and innovative workforce capable of driving sustainable development. However, Nigeria remains plagued by persistent poverty, a disengaged labor force, and socioeconomic stagnation. The growing discontent and agitation among Nigerian youths reflect these systemic issues. In light of these challenges, this study explores the intersection of political governance and ethnic and religious identity, with particular focus on how these factors influence youth political participation. It investigates the socio-political dynamics shaping youth engagement in Nigeria, chronicles historical patterns of youth involvement in governance, identifies obstacles impeding their active participation, and proposes actionable strategies to address these gaps. The study adopts a historical research methodology, utilising oral interviews and the analysis of relevant literature and archival materials. Findings reveal that the marginalisation of youths in Nigeria’s sociopolitical processes has significantly hindered national progress. Based on these insights, the paper advocates for the establishment of youth-centered policies and the deliberate integration of young people into the nation’s political framework as a pathway to sustainable national development. Keywords:Youth participation, political governance, ethnic identity, religious identity, national development, Nigeri
A CRITIQUE OF SOME LAWS GUIDING THE CONDUCT OF THE POLICE AGAINST HUMAN RIGHTS’ VIOLATIONS IN NIGERIA.
There exist Nigerian municipal laws collectively-intended to ease the enforcement, promotion and protection of human rights of individuals against violations by the Nigerian Police. It is therefore worrisome that in spite of the existence of these laws, some Nigerian Police officers have increasingly continued to violate citizens’ rights in Nigerian like in other countries of the world. It is consequent on the above that this article undertakes a contemporary discourse and critique of some Nigeria municipal laws guiding the conduct of the Nigerian Police against human rights’ violations in Nigeria. Prior to the above, it offers explanations and definitions of key words that would aid the better understanding of the article. In this wise, it defines human rights, fundamental rights, human rights’ violations, and the police. It examines human rights in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Right Act 1983. It highlights the provisions of the 2009 Rules and its comparative advantage over the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules 1979 (1979 Rules). It also, highlights the powers of Police officers under the PA 2020. It examines the obligations of the Police under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015. This article takes the stance that some of the provisions of these laws are not adequate, clear and precise. It identifies some short-comings in and outside these laws and offers recommendations, which, if implemented, could curb human rights violations by the Nigerian Police
Legal and Institutional Frameworks for Effective Application of ADR in Marital Disputes
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) has emerged as a viable mechanism for resolving marital disputes in a manner that is less adversarial, more cost-effective, and emotionally considerate compared to conventional litigation.
This paper examines the legal and
institutional frameworks that support the effective application of ADR in resolving marital conflicts in Nigeria. It critically analyses statutory provisions such as the Matrimonial Causes Act, the Child Rights Act, the Arbitration and Mediation Act 2023, and various rules of court which permit or encourage mediation and reconciliation in matrimonial proceedings. The study further explores the roles of key institutions, including family courts, customary and religious dispute resolution forums, and government-established bodies such as the Citizens\u27 Mediation Centres and the Multi-Door Courthouses. By identifying the strengths and limitations of the existing frameworks, the paper highlights the potential of ADR in promoting privacy, preserving familial relationships, and ensuring outcomes that are more tailored to the interests of the parties especially in matters involving children and shared property. It also addresses challenges such as cultural resistance, lack of awareness, insufficient training of mediators, and the need for gender-sensitive approaches. The paper concludes by advocating for enhanced legal reforms, capacity-building programs, and stronger institutional synergy to make ADR a more accessible, trusted, and effective tool in the resolution of marital disputes
JUSTIFICATION FOR ISLAMIC PENOLOGY: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF CRIME RATES BETWEEN UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND SAUDI ARABIA
Nowadays, crimes have become the order of the day while criminals now roam freely around. The situation seems to be that many of current legal systems have been too flexible in delivering punishments on capital offenses, and this apparently has given criminals the liberty to act as they wish as there are no stringent punishments for their offenses and the only way to address the unpleasant situation is to embrace stringent punishment for these crimes. Arguably, the application of Islamic criminal law is essential particularly in respect of social vices which pervade a number of societies while some current legal systems have not been able to arrest the situation. Unfortunately, one of the contemporary challenges facing Islamic law is the issue of compatibility between Islamic criminal law and international human rights law; on the ground that Ḥudūd, being an aspect of Islamic law, has over the years been described as barbaric, inhumane, cruel, harsh, and an act of extremism. Thus, this paper seeks to explore the justification of Islamic penology by comparing crime rates between Saudi Arabia and that of the United States of America. Using data and statistics to illustrate the differences between the two countries, the paper reveals that although each country adopts different approaches to criminal justice, the implementation of Islamic penology in Saudi Arabia has had a positive impact on crime rates. The paper concludes by suggesting that many countries can benefit from adopting Islamic penology as a way to reduce crime
