Language, as a fundamental aspect of human communication, has been subject to continuous evolution throughout history. This paper examined the complex interrelationship between language evolution and technological developments, exploring the historical background of how inventions have influenced and still influencing language use. The study investigates how the structure and use of languages have been influenced by technology including writing systems, the printing media, telecommunication, and the internet, and how each industrial revolution has left an indelible mark on English Language and expanded its vocabulary with the inclusion of many linguistic innovations. It recommends that language planners, policy makers and linguists should embrace synergy and multidisciplinary approach to dealing with linguistic innovations.
Teacher’s Teaching Methodology as Determinants of Secondary School Students’ Achievement in English Reading Comprehension in Lagos State
Many studies have tried to address the issues of students’ reluctance to read and poor academic achievement in reading comprehension. As central as reading is to students’ social and academic advancement, many of them are negatively disposed to reading and consequently, perform poorly in reading comprehension tasks. Against this backdrop, this paper examines teacher’s teaching methodology (TTM) as determinants of students’ achievement in English reading comprehension in selected secondary schools in Lagos State. The paper adopts Kenneth S. Goodman’s transmission model which emphasizes the written text as the most important element in reading comprehension. Fifty (50) students were selected through random sampling technique from fourteen (14) purposively selected schools in Lagos. This gave a total of seven hundred (700) respondents which formed the sample for data collection. The instrument for this study was a self-generated Questionnaire on Teachers’ Teaching Methodology (QTTM) with adapted question on Reading Comprehension Achievement Test (RCAT). The findings revealed that the independent variable of TTM has considerable influence on students’ achievement in English reading comprehension in Lagos State. The study therefore concludes that better teaching methods should be adopted for teaching English reading comprehension in secondary schools in Lagos State to enhance students’ academic achievement in the subject matter.
The Role of Indigenous Languages and New Media in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria
In a bid to arrest social, economic and environmental challenges on a global scale, the United Nations in 2015 came up with the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 initiative. However, existing studies on SDGs have shown that the achievement of these goals in Nigeria has been limited and the contributing factors have been narrowed down to instability, governance and implementation. Little attention has, however, been paid to the role of indigenous languages in ensuring the achievement of the goals. This study analyses the goals using the Desk Review Research Method and establishes how indigenous languages and new media can play a role in ensuring the success of the 2030 goals. It brings to light how these languages as well as social media can be utilised to reach more people, especially the rural majority of African countries and concludes that avenues such as social media influencing, pop culture, adaptation of technology and mass indigenous communication are possible solutions to the slowdown of the success of the developmental goals.

Three research questions and one hypothesis were formulated to guide the study. The data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions, while the one sampled t-test statistical technique was used to test the hypotheses. The findings of the study revealed that among senior citizens, retirement education is not well embraced which resulted in financial insecurity. Capacity Building and Job Performance among Junior Officers of the Nigeria Air Force: .
The capacity and performance of a workforce drives their level of productivity in that organization because the staff or personnel make it possible to achieve organizational objectives. Research have it that, despite the bilateral and multilateral support that have been provided to the Armed Forces, most especially the NAF, Nigeria has failed to put the country in her right position in terms of peace and security. The failure to meet up with the expectations of political representatives and Nigerian citizens has led to several questions on the level of education and performance of troops. This research investigates the need for capacity building exercise as a means to boost job performance amongst junior officers of Nigerian Air Force (NAF). This research adopted survey research design while questionnaire served as the research instrument. The study sampled the entire 1320 junior staff of the NAF. However, only 1,200 copies of the distributed questionnaire were valid and analysed with SPSS v23. The results of this study shows that officers at the Nigerian Air Force are aware of several capacity building programmes, however, only of this training opportunities are available to the junior offers. Also, majority of the officers are at least satisfied with the few trainings they had. Similarly, the officers revealed lack of trainings breed low level of job performance. The study, therefore, concludes that rigorous adoption of the proposed techniques will help the Nigerian Air Force increase capability. In the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), efficient and productive human resource management is fundamental to increased performance. In recommendation, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), for its part, may use capacity building to ensure strict adherence to its human resource regulations. This in return will also boost their morale and yield improved job performance
Pollutant Emissions and Economic Growth in Nigeria: A Comparative Analysis of Carbon Emissions from Gaseous, Liquid and Solid Fuel Consumption : .
This research study analyses the growth effects of carbon emissions from alternative fuel consumption by investigating how carbon emissions from gaseous, liquid, and solid fuel usage affect GDP growth in Nigeria from 1981 to 2020. Using the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) estimator, the result showed that there exists a long run relationship between the disaggregated carbon emissions and economic growth in Nigeria. The result reveals that carbon emissions from liquid fuel consumption have a negative impact on both short-term and longterm output growth. It implies that the price volatility, foreign exchange dependence, and environmental and health expenses associated with using liquid fuels have a detrimental effect on economic growth in the short run. The study also showed that carbon emissions from the burning of gaseous and solid fuels have direct and significant links with economic growth both in the short and long run. It means that the importance of adopting sustainable and low carbon development pathways to ensure sustainable economic growth in Nigeria is highlighted by the fact that carbon-emitting fuels can contribute to short-term economic growth. On the policy front, a carbon tax or cap-and-trade scheme should be implemented to reduce carbon emissions. This will push industry and consumers to use cleaner energy sources and technologies and generate income for low-carbon infrastructure and research
Roles of Pentecostalism in the Political and Economic Development of Nigeria between 1999 and 2015
Nigeria is a country that is shaken by recurrent socio-economic and political crises, which started right after the implementation of the structural adjustment program since the early 1980s under the military regimes. A number of scholars have argued that religion played a crucial role in the political truce that ushered in the democratic government of former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999. This paper analyzes the extent to which Pentecostalism became instrumental to the political and economic development of Nigeria. Pentecostalism became more involved in politics, establishing itself as a crucial force in political decision-making at the national level. Relative Deprivation theory is used to explain the popularity of the Pentecostal movement and reason for their involvement in the Nigerian politics. The paper also uses descriptive analysis to identify the role of Pentecostalism in the political development of Nigeria between 1999 and 2015. The democratization of the media in addition to the wealth and size of Pentecostal churches encouraged the growth of Pentecostalism, but also heightened religious tensions in Nigeria. Many Nigerians have turned to the new faith in an attempt to access its perceived spiritual, social, economic, and political rewards. The permutation of the theocratic class that by gaining political power to stop the killings of Christians in the northern part of the country has failed to achieve the solution to peacebuilding.
