    No full text
Discipline of staff and students has always been in the forefront of effective school administration. This is one of the areas in school administration where when principals get it right, there exists a favorable school environment conducive to teaching and learning .The study ascertained the achievements and constraints of principals in the administration of secondary schools in the light of hidden curriculum .The researchers carried out the study in public secondary schools in Owerri Education zone of Imo State, Nigeria. The study adopted quantitative paradigm. It specifically employed descriptive survey research design. The sample size of the study was 60principals. Two hypotheses guided the study. The study was anchored on Henri Fayol’s Administrative Management Theory, and supported by Albert Bandura’s Social Learning Theory. A twenty-five - item questionnaire was used to collect data. The researchers collected the data in person. Theusedt-test statistics to test the two hypotheses that guided the study at a significant alpha level of 0.05. The findings of the study revealed that male principals achieve more on administrative discipline than female principals. However, they have equal strength in the development of the school. Nevertheless, financial constraint impedes the effective administration and management of the schools by both male and female principals in rural and urban areas. Drawing from these findings, there searchers therefore recommended that equal opportunities and financial strength should be given to both male and female principals in the administration of the school. This would enable them to be more actives in instilling discipline in the workforce in order to enhance performance among staff and students

The study investigates the effect of firm size on financial reporting quality by employing samples from listed consumer goods manufacturing firms in Sub-Sahara Africa between the periods of 2011-2020. In this study, firm size is the independent variable while financial reporting quality is measured in terms of Jones discretionary accrual is the dependent variable. The study is longitudinal covering a period of ten (10) years. That is, from 2011 to 2020 employing consumer goods manufacturing firms in Sub-Sahara Africa. However, only consumer goods manufacturing firms that had all relevant data due to continuous existence were included in the sample. Our final sample size consists of 16 consumer goods manufacturing firms in Nigeria, 7 consumer goods manufacturing firms in Kenya, and 30 consumer goods manufacturing firms in South Africa. In testing for the effect of the above variables on financial reporting quality of listed consumer goods manufacturing firms in Sub-Sahara Africa, we conducted panel least square regression before proceeding to check for inconsistencies with the basic assumptions of the OLS regression. Succinctly, these diagnostics tests include test for multicollinearity as well as test for heteroscedasticity. The panel fixed and random effects were employed and estimated using the appropriate techniques. The findings of the study reveal that firm size has a significant relationship with financial reporting quality in quoted consumer goods manufacturing firm in Sub-Sahara Africa. The study recommends that though larger firms have a stronger tendency to improved financial reporting quality, there is the need for small and medium firms to also focus on improving reporting qualit

The Nigeria nation-state is currently experiencing a new wave of terrorism resonating in menace of armed banditry in the North-West region of the federation. Its intensity, spread and fatalities overwhelms amid ground offensives and airstrikes from Nigeria military. Hence, this unpleasant development therefore elicits the need for alternative plausible non-military options towards restoring security and peace in the region. Hence, this underscored the essence of non-kinetic measures to stem the tides of bandits and criminal gangs in North-West. The methodology of this discourse is a descriptive design where secondary sources of data collection and non-participant observational method were used. The data and observed events were content-analyzed. The findings revealed frightening incidences of banditry as security personnel grapple with myriad of institutional, geographic, political and societal constraints. The deaths, destruction, humanitarian and socio-economic effects were enormous as the state governments deployed non-kinetic measures to complement efforts of the security personnel, however, these measures were also fraught with political, administrative and logistic lapses. Thus, this discourse recommends for a regional amnesty program, state youth empowerment and rehabilitation program, security reforms as among the fundamentals of non-kinetic response to armed banditry in North West region of Nigeria federation

    No full text
This paper examined the effect of oil price changes on Nigeria's market performance proxied by all-share index and using monthly frequency data that cover the period from January1997 to August 2020. It employed the Non-linear autoregressive distriuted lag methodology for data analysis. The results of the study suggest that both the increases The and decreases in oil price have positive impacts on Nigeria’s stock market performance. However, while a decrease in the oil price in the current period has a significant impact on the Nigerian stock market performance , both the decrease in oil price in the past period and its increase in the current period affect the Nigerian stock market performance non-significantly. The results of the study suggest that market participants should target oil price movements as an important instrument for predicting the changes in Nigeria’s stock market performance

This study determined the application of e-learning platforms in the implementation of Political Science Education curriculum in Covid-19 pandemic era in universities in Enugu State, Nigeria. Two specific objectives guided the study. These were: to ascertain the available e-learning platforms for the implementation of Political Science Education curriculum in the Covid-19 pandemic era; to establish the extent of the utilization of e-learning platforms in the implementation of Political Science Education curriculum. The study employed quantitative paradigm, specifically, the descriptive survey research design. Six universities were used for the study. The total number of respondents to the study was one hundred and twelve (112) persons; 84 final year Political Science Education students and 28 of their lecturers. Checklist and questionnaire were used to collect data. The researchers employed the services of two research assistants in data collection. Frequencies, percentages, mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions. The findings of the study indicate that e-learning platforms for effective implementation of Political Science Education curriculum were not adequately available. More so, that the extent of utilization of these e-learning platforms was low in this Covid-19 pandemic era. This implied that students’ academic performance was not enhanced during this period. The study therefore recommended blended learning to universities and in-service training for lecturers in order to overcome any challenge that can disrupt the academic calendar

The study established the challenges inherent in the use of e-learning platforms in the implementation of Political Science Education curriculum in universities in Enugu State, Nigeria during the lockdown of schools as a result of the covid19 pandemic. The study was anchored on the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) formulated in 2003 by Venkatesh, Morris, Davis, and Davis. Two research questions guided the study; What are the various challenges of Political Science Education curriculum implementation in the covid-19 pandemic era? What are the plausible solutions to Political Science Education curriculum implementation in the covid-19 pandemic era? It was a quantitative study that adopted the descriptive survey research design. The researchers used six private and public universities in Enugu State, Nigeria for the study. The population of the study was one hundred and twelve (112) persons; 84 final year Political Science Education students and 28 of their lecturers. Questionnaire was used to collect data. The researchers collected the data themselves from the six universities. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions. The study found that unreliable power supply, poor internet services, high cost of data, and lack of technical know-how hindered effective use of e-learning platforms in the implementation of Political Science Education curriculum during the lockdown of schools caused by the covid-19 pandemic. This inadvertently affected students’ academic performance. The study then recommended that there is need to ensure that broadband facilities are readily available in the university campuses to enhance the use of e-learning platforms for teaching and learning

Artificial Intelligence and robotics have taken the center stage in the world thereby creating irreplaceable values to humanity. Nevertheless; much attention has been drawn to their values towards making the world a better place and less attention to the moral challenges emanating from the abuse of robotics and Artificial Intelligence. Beyond the obvious appreciable values in their use, this paper bears much concern on the disheartening effects of the ethical abuse of Artificial Intelligence and robotics both from the creator’s end and the users’ end especially in Nigeria. Using expository and analytic methods this paper exposes and analysis the values, use and abuses of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in Nigerian institutions. Artificial Intelligence and robotics have been of great value in institutions such as; finance, politics, military, education, communication/media, cyber security, etc. Unfortunately, the ethical implications on the abuses of Artificial Intelligence and robotics have been so devastating yet not much questions have been raised beyond the alarms by victims. Thus this paper not only raises moral questions on the abuse of Artificial Intelligence and robotics, it calls for more attention and consciousness of the society to this menace. Also, this paper encourages experts in this field to deepen studies on guides against such abuses and the judiciary to enact comprehensive laws to this effect
