Cross sectional research design was adopted to examine the relationship between three independent factors (resilience, internal locus of control, perceived social supports) and quality of life. A sample size of four hundred (400) youths between ages 18-30 years (Male=240; Female=160) were selected using a combination of simple random sampling and purposive technique from a population of out-of school youths in Anambra State, Nigeria. Four standardized scales were used for data collection. Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) and Multiple Regression were used for data analysis. Findings revealed that resilience (r= 0. 146**p<.05), internal locus of control (r= 0.165** p<.05) and social support (r= 0. 658** p<.05) positively correlated with quality of life respectively. There was significant joint contribution of the independent variables to the prediction of quality of life among the respondents F (5,395) = 102.299, P<0.001). The independent variables (resilience, internal locus of control and perceived social supports) when combined accounted for 50.2% (Adj.R2= .502) of the variance in quality of life among out-of school youths in Anambra State. Resilience was the most potent predictor of quality of life among the variables considered in this study (β =.591, t =10.153, P<0.001). Counselling psychologists should institute resilience-focused therapy to build the practical skills of youths to become capable of handling their everyday challenges in order to have an improved quality of life

Incest is a cultural term that describes sexual contact between members that are closely related, especially between members of a nuclear family, that is, between parents and children or between siblings. The alarming rate of incest in our societies in the recent times calls for an urgent attention as it has brought a dirty blow on family stability and societal structure. Existing literature on incest have focused more on the modem approaches to deal with culprits of incest like making an arrest and prosecution by the police and other security agencies of culprits while little attention is paid to how traditional songs were used in time past to deal with offenders thereby bringing the menace to a barest minimum and restoring sanity into the society. The incessant cases of incest in the society makes it imperative to explore one of the mechanisms that was effectively used in the pre-colonial time to restore social order. Traditional songs were copiously intoned to address the menace of incest which led to the considerable peace experienced in the past by the Yoruba people. Oral tradition and written records that are relevant to the subject matter were made use of in this study. We observed through our findings that traditional songs were more effective in the pre-colonial period in controlling deviant behaviour of incest and can also play a complimentary role in the rejuvenation of social order in Yoruba society today, if properly and systematically integrated

In: Dada, A. O., Famulisi, O. O., Berekiah, O. O., and Sewapo, H. (eds.) Laadership, Mission and Church Growth in Africa- A Festschrift in Honour of His Eminence Dr Samuel Ckukwuemka Kanu Uche, pp. 445-457Religion and Science have played important roles in human history, and have also shared a unique history because of the peculiarity and importance of the two fields and their exceptional relationship. Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is a product of Science and it has proved to be a sine qua non in all areas of existence. As Science, is progressing through ICT, the recognition, as well as the usage of social media is enormous in the 21st Century. The Nigerian society, both in public spaces and private spaces, is not left out of the massive use of social media such as Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp, Linkedln, Instagram, Snapchat, Telegram, Perescope, 2go and the likes. Thus, social media wield a lot of influence in the society today, and like other aspects of living, it is being used in the propagation of religion by removing constraints of space and time, making both the message and messenger of religion highly ubiquitous. However, there is scant attention on the examination of the religious space within social media, especially in the Nigerian experience, thereby creating a lacuna this research intends to fill. This study seeks to examine the subject of "religious space" in social media and its emergence over time in this ICT-driven age, with the view to discussing its roles in church missions, the challenges associated with it, and the implications for church missions' policies

    Diaspora grand-mothering in Nigeria

Leaving children in the care of grandparents is a fairly common practice in close knit societies such as Nigeria. This service of providing childcare by grandmothers is however taking a transnational form with the exportation of grandmothers from Nigeria to care for grandchildren whose parents, out of economic necessity, must work fulltime. This article explores the dynamics of Nigerian grandmothers providing childcare to grandchildren in the diaspora, using twenty-five grandmothers selected in Ibadan,Southwest Nigeria based on their experience of this phenomena. Study found that participants were motivated to undertake diaspora childcare out of empathy for the younger couples, the feeling of a sense of duty, perceived knowledge of childcare, selffulfilment, cultural norms, and the need to minimize the cost of childcare for couples in the diaspora. The sense of being ‘available’ played a significant role in participants’ decision to provide childcare abroad. The study equally showed that the practice had both emotional and social impact on the grandmothers involved. The research advances the significance of diaspora grandmother child care services as a critical part of the broader debate on companionship and gender roles in old age, especially in Africa, where elders remain key transmitters of societal norms and values

A total number of two hundred and thirty five (235) respondents responded to the self-structured (online Google form) questionnaires administered to them without being bias to sample their opinions on the performance of common rodent population control methods and their readiness to embrace plant-based formulated diets as a method of rodent population control in Nigeria. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyze the questionnaires. The results showed that rodent population should be controlled to reduce their damage to agricultural crops (97.4%), to reduce zoonotic diseases (94.9%), and for conservation reasons (82.6%) in Nigeria. It was also revealed that some of the common rodent population control methods were found to be humane, cost effective, acceptable, and effective but at different levels. The plant-based formulated diet as a method of population reduction would be humane (69.8%), acceptable (65.1%), and effective (68.5%) method. The plant-based formulated diet was viewed as a promising method and this indicated readiness to adopt the method as an alternative to the common methods of rodent population control

This study investigated the academic staff’s motivation for online teaching in Nigerian universities using a mixed-methods case study research design. The main instrument used for this study was a questionnaire named ‘Academic Staff’s Motivation for Online Teaching Survey (SMOTS)', which was complemented by in-depth interviews. A total of 195 academic staff across various academic faculties and units in the University of Ibadan participated in the study. Data analysis was done using frequency count, simple percentages, mean and standard deviation, while the in-depth interviews were thematically analysed. The result of the study revealed that the majority of the academic staff have not taught using online platforms before and their frequency of online teaching consideration is occasional. Additionally, they have a high perception of online teaching in terms of helping to learn new technology and encouraging intellectual challenges. The academic staff indicated that individual training opportunities, personal decisions and group training opportunities are among the major resources that can motivate them for online teaching. Likewise, the introduction to new technology for teaching, institutional expectation, and students’ enrolment are the major external motivating factors for online teaching. It was further revealed that most of the academic staff feel motivated to teach online. However, erratic power supply, work overload, and limited knowledge of e-learning stand as major hindrances to online teaching adoption among academic staff. This study has discovered the need for Nigerian university managements to vigorously embark on capacity building of academic staff for online teaching. This will help them to cultivate or enhance basic information and communication technology skills and other essential competencies needed to manage online learning environment
