    A tanulmány Thomas Edgar Welsh (1882–1944), a Debreceni Egyetem kanadai származású angol lektorának életét és munkásságát mutatja be. A kutatás elsőként tár fel részletes adatokat a Debrecenben tragikus körülmények között elhunyt oktató szakmai munkájáról, életútjáról és publikációiról. A korabeli források és sajtóanyagok alapján Welsh fontos szerepet töltött be a debreceni angol nyelvoktatás történetében a két világháború közötti időszakban, az egyetemen és a város más intézményeiben végzett oktatási feladatok mellett több, széles körben használt nyelvkönyv és szótár szerzőjeként is. A tanulmány a Welsh házaspár életének és tragikus halálának körülményeit is ismerteti, valamint bemutatja a lektor sokrétű debreceni tevékenységét. Ezen túlmenően elemzi Welsh nyelvoktatási kiadványait és azok viszonyát a korszak angol nyelvpedagógiai irányaihoz, hozzájárulva az angoltanítás helyi és hazai történetének pontosabb megértéséhez

    In this summary overview, we present the findings of phytosociological surveys conducted in vegetation types subjected to goat grazing—excluding the control meadows—across seven different study sites in addition to four settlements located in Transdanubia and the North Hungarian Mountains. The areas are also evaluated from a grassland management perspective. Furthermore, we explored the potential use of two invasive species (Solidago gigantea and Calamagrostis epigeios) as goat fodder, and we included a mown meadow as a control. The primary aim was to assess the species richness and ecological value of these areas under varying levels of grazing pressure and grassland management strategies, particularly in terms of conservation and pasture use. The most degraded plant communities were observed in Nagyréde and Kaposdada, where overgrazing had occurred. This was evident in species composition, as these areas were the least species-rich and showed significant infestation by ruderal species. In contrast, the most favorable outcomes—both for conservation and for grassland management—were found in sites that were initially mown and subsequently grazed by goats. The results suggest that vegetation types developed under light grazing pressure were more beneficial from a grazing perspective. Overall, the study indicates that a combination of light grazing and mowing is the most suitable management approach for maintaining and utilizing these semi-dry grasslands sustainably. Additionally, both invasive species may have potential for use as fodder when harvested at appropriate phenological stages and supplemented with additional feed, although not for meat production purposes.     Antagonist Muscle Activation During Isometric Elbow Flexion at Varied Joint Angles: A Comparative Neuromuscular Analysis Between Volleyball Players and Sedentary Adults

    Neuromuscular coordination enhances athletic performance and prevents injuries. Antagonist muscle activation during isometric movements, such as elbow flexion, is crucial for joint stability and efficiency. Volleyball-specific training may lead to distinct neuromuscular adaptations that differ from those of sedentary individuals. This study aims to investigate differences in antagonist activation patterns during isometric elbow flexion between volleyball players and sedentary adults, with a focus on neuromuscular control and the effects of co-contraction. Twenty-eight males (14 volleyball players and 14 sedentary individuals; ages 18–25) participated in the study. Surface electromyography (EMG) recorded biceps and triceps activity at 45°, 90°, and 120° elbow angles. Muscle activity, co-contraction indices (CCI), and perceived exertion (RPE) were statistically analyzed using descriptive statistics and two-way repeated measures Analysis of Variance. Bonferroni corrections assessed angle-specific effects. Significance levels (α) were set to 0.05 for all analyses. Athletes exhibited significantly higher biceps activation (mean EMGmax = 0.63 vs. 0.48) and lower triceps activation (mean EMGmax = 0.25 vs. 0.35, p < 0.001). Co-contraction (CCI) was lower among athletes (mean = 0.55 vs. 0.89). RPE scores were consistently lower in athletes (mean = 12.8 ± 1.6) compared to non-athletes (15.7 ± 1.5), indicating superior neuromuscular efficiency. Volleyball players demonstrated enhanced neuromuscular control, as evidenced by higher agonist activation, reduced antagonist activation, and lower co-contraction. The enhanced neuromuscular adaptations of volleyball players, likely resulting from consistent training, suggest improved movement mechanics and a reduced risk of injury. Future longitudinal studies are advised to explore causality and sport-specific neuromuscular changes

    Three generations of the Dohy/Göllner family contributed to the training of hundreds of agricultural engineers, all three of whom had ties to Debrecen, Eastern Hungary. Today, Wikipedia articles also preserve their memory and activities. - (Senior) János Göllner (1871–1942), a mechanical engineer, fled with his family from Kolozsvár to Debrecen after the Treaty of Trianon (1920), where he headed the technical department of the Agricultural Academy. - János Dohy (earlier Göllner) (1905–1990) learned at the secondary schools from the Piarists in Debrecen, then graduated as an agricultural engineer from the Debrecen-Pallag Academy of Agriculture in 1926 (phytopathologist). - János Dohy (Junior) (1934–2002) agricultural engineer, university professor, and researcher of animal breeding and husbandry were related to his activity.     Fenntarthatóságra fókuszáló befektetők? – Az egyéni ESG befektetési szándékot meghatározó tényezők vizsgálata a strukturális egyenletek modellje segítségével

    The aim of this study is to examine the determinants of individual ESG investment intentions. The own research model was developed by complementing Ajzen's theory of planned behaviour with literature-based approaches and adapting it to the topic. Based on the model, the relationships and the hypotheses were tested on a Hungarian sample of 228 participants using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). Both the research model and the methodology used are novel in the context of this study. The results suggest that both general and sustainability-focused investment attitudes positively influence ESG investment intentions. Subjective norms related to ESG investment and a sense of self-efficacy also support ESG investment intention. Moreover, it can be said that women's ESG investment attitudes and intentions are higher than in case of men. The results can contribute to the better understanding of the factors underlying individual ESG investment intentions, especially in the domestic context. A saját kutatási modell Ajzen tervezett viselkedés elméletének szakirodalmi alapú kiegészítésével és a témára adaptálásával került kialakításra. A modell alapján az összefüggések és a megfogalmazott hipotézisek tesztelését egy hazai, 228 fős mintán, a parciális legkisebb négyzetek alapú strukturális egyenlet modellezésével (PLS-SEM) végeztük el. A kutatási modell és az alkalmazott módszertan is újszerű a vizsgálat kontextusában. Az eredmények alapján elmondható, hogy mind az általános, mind pedig a fenntarthatóságra fókuszáló befektetésekhez kapcsolódó attitűdök pozitívan befolyásolják az ESG befektetési szándékot. Az ESG befektetésekhez kapcsolódó szubjektív normák, illetve az önhatékonyság érzése is támogatja az ESG befektetési szándékot. Ezen túlmenően elmondható, hogy a nők ESG befektetési attitűdje és szándéka is magasabb, mint a férfiaké. Az eredmények segítenek jobban megérteni az egyéni ESG befektetési szándék hátterében álló tényezőket, különös tekintettel a hazai kontextusra. JEL kódok: D12, Q56, Q58

    The effect of heat treatment on the antioxidant activity of sour cherry jams

    Sour cherry (Prunus cerasus) is a valuable fruit known for its high antioxidant content. Its bioactive substances contribute to health maintenance, as they have strong anti-inflammatory and free radical scavenging properties. Jams made from sour cherries provide a concentrated form of the antioxidant content of fruit, thus can play an important role in a balanced diet. Heat treatment is an essential part of the jam-making process, as it ensures the microbiological stability and longer shelf life of the product. At the same time, heat can significantly affect the antioxidant content of the fruit. In this study, the authors compared the antioxidant content of six different sour cherry jams. Based on the obtained results, it was concluded that the fruit content of sour cherry jams alone is not sufficient to estimate their antioxidant capacity, but the extent of the effect of heat treatment on it is generally independent of the nature of the products. This result highlights that the fruit content and the applied technology play an important role in preserving the antioxidant content of fruits during product processing
