This study examines female youth participation in agricultural livelihood generating activities for self-care in Gwagwalada Area Council, Abuja. The objectives were to: examine the extent of female youth participation in agricultural livelihood generating activities and the income generated, determine the levels of female youth self-care responsibilities and perceived contribution of participation in agricultural livelihood activities on their wellbeing, determine factors influencing female youth participation in agricultural livelihood activities in the study area. A multistage sampling procedure was used to select 133 female youths from 13 registered youth associations. Structured questionnaire was used to collect data while descriptive statistics and Logit regression model were used to analyze the data. The results showed that 30.1% of the respondents were engaged in crop production and generated an average income of ₦420,093.02 while only 3.0% were engaged in crop produce processing and generated ₦29,250.74. Also, almost half (47.4) of them spent money to take care of themselves of between 3-4 self-care responsibilities and about 41.5 spent an average of 130,078.95 on food per day. It also showed The logit regression results indicated that factors influencing female youth participation in agricultural livelihood generating activities include age, educational status, household size, income, occupation, and distance. While the study indicates that a significant portion of female youths is engaged in crop and poultry production, their overall participation in agricultural activities is limited. The study provides critical insights into the potential of agriculture as a viable solution to youth unemployment and is an instrument of female vulnerability reduction in Nigeria. The study recommends implementing policies to improve land access for female youths, including land reform initiatives that prioritize youth ownership and leasing options. Additionally, it suggests exploring strategies to reduce production costs through input subsidies, partnerships with agricultural suppliers, and community-based resource-sharing initiatives

The importance of talent management has always been crucial in higher education. There are many benefits for institutions in identifying, supporting and developing talented students. Not only do students benefit from this process, but universities can also benefit from the proper functioning of talent management. In our study, we investigated the participation of students from the University of Debrecen’s Talent Management Program (DETEP) in the Scientific Students’ Associations Conferences. The target group of our questionnaire survey consisted of students of the program who had previously participated in TDK (n=128). The results show that the number and the rate of participation in TDK is higher in faculties with more DETEP students, which may be due to the longer duration of the training. More talented students have multiple TDK participation. Respondents are more likely to engage in TDK participation consciously and are more likely to think about a research career if their reasons for TDK participation include the intention to apply for a PhD and to publish. Based on the results, the following suggestions for improvement were made: increasing the number of information materials on the TDK movement and research careers, the use of TDK promotion programs (lectures by former (O)TDK participants and successful supervisors, Peer Support Program, workshops, competence development trainings, creatives and "I was a TDK participant too" short films) and the introduction of an honorarium system.A tehetségmenedzsment jelentősége a felsőoktatásban mindig is meghatározó szereppel bírt. Tanulmányunkban a tudományos diákköri mozgalomban való részvételt vizsgáltuk a Debreceni Egyetem Tehetséggondozó Programjának (DETEP) hallgatói körében. A kérdőíves kutatás célcsoportját a program azon hallgatói adták, akik rendelkeztek korábbi TDK részvétellel (n=128). Eredményeik alapján megállapítható, hogy azon karoknál, ahol több a DETEP-es hallgató, a TDK részvételek száma és aránya is magasabb, melynek hátterében a hosszabb képzési idő állhat. Több tehetséges hallgató többszöri TDK részvétellel is rendelkezik.

From 1935 onwards, students from the Netherlands regularly visited the Debrecen Summer University. Imre Tarnóczy, a member of the board of the International Students' Club in Utrecht, played an important role in recruiting the students and organizing the trip. Tarnóczy, and later Elly Hoekstra, also took the Hungarian language proficiency exam at the Summer University. Some of the students visiting here came from the Dutch Asian colonies. The students attended language and country studies courses, went to the open-air bath, and visited the Hortobágy and several cities in Northeastern Hungary. The local and national press reported on their stay, and interviews and photos were taken with them. The Dutch did not come to Debrecen during World War II, and we only see them at the Summer University in 1947 again.F1935-től kezdve hollandiai diákok rendszeresen keresték fel a debreceni Nyári Egyetemet.

Perceptions of effectiveness and performance evaluation in Hungarian higher education in the Carpathian Basin

Several international studies have addressed the quantitative and qualitative changes in higher education participation and the impact of the evaluative state and institutional quality management on higher education societies (Altbach, 2000; Altbach, 2002; Kwiek & Antonowicz, 2015). However, despite the relatively rich research in higher education in our region, the impact of higher education performance evaluation on the views of faculty members has not been investigated. In our study, we investigate the types of performance evaluation that are typical in higher education in the Carpathian Basin and provide a picture of the perceptions of faculty members on performance evaluation. We will examine the differences and similarities in performance evaluation across the different types of performance. Our research questions concern their homogeneity and interrelationships. We conducted a hybrid coding analysis of the transcripts of qualitative focus group interviews with faculty members in one of the most eastern regions of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), using data from 2022 on the impact of the introduction of performance evaluation in higher education. The main findings of the study show that faculty members' views on performance show high diversity. There is a correlation in views on performance evaluation, but they are not exclusive. The points to consider in the context of performance evaluation can provide guidance for decision-makers in higher education

Challenges, Opportunities and Resilience in Contemporary Practice

This paper examines the evolution of social work as a profession within the context of changing socio-political landscapes. Through critical analysis of historical developments and contemporary challenges, it explores how neoliberal ideologies have fundamentally transformed the conceptualization of "the social" and consequently altered the practice and perception of social work. The research investigates the tension between technical-managerial approaches and relationship-based practices in social work, highlighting the profession's struggle to maintain its core values amid political and economic pressures. The paper argues for a re-politicization of social work practice as essential for its continued relevance and effectiveness, proposing a framework that reaffirms social work's commitment to fostering meaningful human connections and addressing structural inequalities. This analysis contributes to ongoing scholarly discourse on the future direction of social work in increasingly complex and polarized societies

Improving Emergency Call Accessibility via Location Technologies in Romania

This study examines Romania’s progress in emergency caller location technologies and accessibility between 2020 and 2024, within the broader European context. Applying a PRISMA-informed review methodology, it draws on official reports, academic sources, and EU regulatory data to evaluate the implementation of Advanced Mobile Location (AML), HTML5 geolocation, and the Apel 112 mobile application Romania was among the first EU countries to deploy AML and subsequent performance metrics indicate notable advancements in geolocation accuracy through hybrid handset- and network-based methods. However, despite these advancements, the adoption of the Apel 112 app has declined, raising concerns about user trust, public awareness, and accessibility. To assess system inclusiveness, this study applies the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) framework. Findings reveal that persons with hearing, speech, and cognitive impairments continue to face substantial barriers due to the absence of real-time text (RTT), video relay services, and universally designed interfaces. These results support both hypotheses: Romania has strengthened its technical infrastructure for caller location (H1), yet persistent accessibility and interoperability limitations remain (H2). The study concludes that inclusive design, user education, and cross-platform compatibility must become priorities for emergency communication policy to ensure equitable access for all users. This study examines Romania’s progress in emergency caller location technologies and accessibility between 2020 and 2024, within the broader European context. Az életminőség legfontosabb dimenzióinak változásai Nyíregyháza városában

The Quality-of-Life Research Group of the University of Debrecen Faculty of Health Sciences has been examining various dimensions of the quality of life of the residents of Nyíregyháza through regular data surveys since 2008. The results from the most recent study completed in 2023/2024 focused on indicators that fundamentally determine the quality of life - economic activity and employment, income situation and income inequalities, housing conditions, social problems and support systems. This approach was taken because the research group interprets the quality of life as a complex concept and considers these indicators to be decisive from a sociological perspective.Even though the proportion of the employees is very high in the city, significant differences were found based upon education and the perception of working conditions. Employment is a determined factor in income and while the average income has increased in recent years, the values of income inequality indicators also show an increase. There has been improvement in housing both in quantity and quality for those living in privately owned apartments. On the other hand, those who do not have sufficient resources to purchase a home, have to face increasing rental prices and a decreasing number of municipal rental apartments. One out of five households have household expense burdened by debt.Regarding support systems, this research shows that the poor and the less educated have smaller and less resource-rich networks than those of the better-off and more educated.  Material and relational exclusion are typically intertwined, which can further exacerbate the negative effects of social exclusion.A Debreceni Egyetem Egészségtudományi Kar Életminőség Kutatócsoportja rendszeres adatfelvételekkel 2008 óta vizsgálja a nyíregyházi lakosok életminőségét, különböző dimenziók alapján. Tanulmányunkban a legfrissebb, 2023/2024-ben lebonyolított felmérés eredményeit mutatjuk be, az életminőséget alapvetően meghatározó mutatókra – gazdasági aktivitás és foglalkoztatottság, jövedelmi helyzet és jövedelmi egyenlőtlenségek, lakhatási körülmények, szociális problémák és támogató rendszerek – koncentrálva, mivel kutatócsoportunk az életminőséget komplex fogalomként értelmezi, szociológiai szempontból pedig ezeket a mutatókat tartja meghatározónak. Bár a foglalkoztatottak aránya igen magas a városban, jelentős különbségek mérhetőek az iskolázottság függvényében, illetve a munkavégzés körülményeinek megítélésében. A foglalkoztatottság meghatározó tényező a jövedelmek esetében. A háztartások kiadásait minden ötödik háztartás esetében adósság is terheli.

In 1950, the state socialist government of Hungary decided that the education of Roman Catholic, Reformed and Lutheran pastors could no longer be provided within the framework of the state universities, so the Evangelical-Lutheran Faculty of Theology in Sopron had to be separated from the University of Pécs within a few months and a (nominally) church-funded pastoral education institution, the Evangelical-Lutheran Theological Academy, had to be organised. An important part of this process was the selection of the academic staff members, which I would like to present in the memoirs of Dean Károly Karner. This source, on the one hand, provides a good summary of the events that took place in the autumn of 1950, and on the other hand, it was intended to underpin the legality of the dismissal of Professor Lajos Jánossy, and thus, although the document is undated, it can be placed in the context of a church rehabilitation process of Jánossy that took place in 1956/1957.1950-ben a magyarországi államszocialista kormányzat elhatározta, hogy a római katolikus, református és evangélikus lelkipásztorok képzése a továbbiakban nem folyhat állami egyetemi keretben, ezért a Sopronban működő evangélikus hittudományi kart néhány hónap alatt le kellett választani a Pécsi Tudományegyetem szervezetéről és megszervezni egy (névleg) egyházi fenntartású lelkészképző intézményt, az Evangélikus Teológiai Akadémiát. A folyamat fontos részét tette ki a tanári kar kiválasztása, amelyet Karner Károly dékán visszaemlékezésének közreadásával szeretnék bemutatni. E forrás egyfelől jól összefoglalja az 1950 őszén lejátszódott eseményeket, másfelől felismerhető benne az a cél, hogy alátámassza Jánossy Lajos professzor elbocsátásának jogszerűségét, így bár keltezetlen, mégis beilleszthető Jánossy 1956/1957-ben zajló egyházi rehabilitációs eljárásába is
