The results show that the correlation between sourcing and performance is positive and statistically significant, which implies that sourcing positively influences performance. The study concluded that the sourcing has a significant influence on the performance of iron sheet manufacturing firms in Nairobi County. The study recommends that the iron sheet manufacturing firms should: Conduct comprehensive supplier market analysis to identify the most reliable and cost-effective suppliers of raw materials such as galvanized steel, zinc, and aluminum. Use the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) approach instead of just price comparison, factor in transportation, lead time, quality, and reliability. Employ e-sourcing platforms for transparency, efficiency, and wider supplier access. Regularly evaluate suppliers based on quality, cost, delivery performance, and compliance
Supplier Relationship Management and Performance of Supermarkets in Nairobi County, Kenya
In Kenya, supermarkets are regarded as one of the primary contributors to the economy’s notable expansion and advancement. However, in recent times, the performance of the retail industry has been beset by several challenges. This study aimed to examine the effect of supplier relationship management on supermarket performance in Nairobi County. The research adopted a descriptive research design which focused on describing the phenomenon being studied. The research target population comprised 147 registered hyper and mega supermarkets operating within Nairobi City County. Stratified and simple random sampling techniques were employed. A sample size of 45 supermarkets and 135 respondents were selected for the study. In the analysis process, descriptive, inferential, and thematic statistical analysis was employed to analyze the data collected in this study. The study found that there is a positive and significant relationship between trust-based relationship management (β=0.0152, p=0.002), supplier segmentation (β=0.3154, p=0.002), and the performance of supermarkets. The study concludes that establishing and maintaining trust with suppliers is essential for ensuring a smooth and efficient supply chain, as well as fostering long-term partnerships that benefit both parties. Supplier segmentation helps supermarkets improve their overall performance by tailoring their approach to each supplier based on their specific needs and capabilities. The study recommends that when supermarkets have strong, trust-based relationships with their suppliers, they are more likely to receive timely deliveries, high-quality products, and competitive pricing. By segmenting suppliers, supermarkets can better match their specific needs and requirements with the capabilities of different suppliers
The Effect of Inventory Management on Performance of Selected Naivas Supermarkets in Nairobi City County, Kenya
Electronic supply chain management has emerged to be a core area and source of implementation in contemporary business environments, especially the retail sector. Naivas supermarket has continued to rely on the traditional supply chain which has caused it not to achieve its optimum performance as concerns market penetration, sales revenue actualization, customer fulfilment, and right-time delivery. The study investigated the role of inventory management as an aspect of electronic supply management on the performance of the retail sector in Nairobi County, Kenya. The study settled on a descriptive research design to investigate a sample size of 137 staff members from 8 randomly selected Naivas supermarkets in Nairobi city county. Semi-structured questionnaires were utilized to gather first-hand data from targeted respondents. Reliability and validity in this study was also determined. Reliability was examined using a threshold of 0.70 of the Cronbach alpha value. The element of inventory management practices exceeded the threshold and thereby deemed reliable. Quantitative analysis revealed that inventory management (β=0.342, p=0.031) showed moderate impact, limited by partial manual processes. To enhance performance through inventory management practices, Naivas should prioritize full automation of inventory tracking using IoT and AI-driven systems, building on the moderate but significant impact found in the study. Implementing vendor-managed inventory with key suppliers would further optimize stock levels, leveraging the strong correlation between SRM and inventory efficiency. Additionally, staff training programs should be introduced to ensure seamless adoption of these technologies and address residual manual verification issues noted by respondents. Future research should explore long-term digital transformation outcomes and AI/blockchain applications in Kenya’s retail sector

In the current dynamic business environment, any organization can survive if it performs exceptionally well. This study\u27s main goal was to assess the effect of supply chain flexibility and performance of food and beverages manufacturing firms in Kenya. The cross-sectional survey was used in the study. Senior procurement managers from 246 Kenyan companies that produce food and beverages were the target audience. Krejcie and Morgan (1970) were used to estimate a sample size of 150 respondents. Simple random sampling was used to choose the sample. Pilot research of 15 firms, representing 10% of the sample size, was carried out, and 13 questionnaires were returned. Semi-structured and self-administered questionnaires were employed by the researcher. 135 questionnaires were given to responders and 119 were returned. Descriptive statistics, including mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis, were used to analyze the data. Correlation, regression, and hypothesis testing were also used in inferential statistics. SPSS version 28 was used for processing the acquired data. Tables were used to display the data. According to the dependability results, every variable satisfies the requirement for a Cronbach\u27s alpha value of greater than 0.7. Criteria, content, and construct validity were also examined. The findings showed a favorable, substantial linear significance between SCF and performance of food and beverages companies in Kenyan (β: 0.590, t: 7.910, p ≤ 0.00) In addition, the results indicated that when one unit in supply chain flexibility grows there is a rise in a unit of the performance. The study concluded that supply chain flexibility significantly improves the performance of food industry. The research recommends that supply chain flexibility be strategically implemented

The secondary data was generated from income statements and cash flow reports dating from 2020 to 2022. The questionnaire was pre-tested at the KPLC Kilifi county office. Face, content, and criterion validity were measured whereas Cronbach alpha was used to measure reliability. Descriptive statistics like frequencies, mean and percentages were analysed. The study used a thematic method to analyse the open-ended questions and tables, and explanations as main methods of data presentation. The study’s finding on outsourcing practice was that there was occurrence of delays in providing urgent services and products. On negotiation practice, KPLC’s negotiation process was affected by corruption by rogue staff with selfish interests. On tendering practice, there was low incorporation ICT into the tendering process. On inventory control methods, there was inconsistency of policy systems towards guiding quality warehouse management. The study recommendations on outsourcing practice are that the procurement department management conducts a thorough check on the potential products and services outsourced. On negotiation practice, KPLC senior management should develop and implement anticorruption policies on corrupt staff. On tendering practice, senior management should provide funds, increase awareness, and strengthen the ICT implementation policies. On inventory control practice, the procurement department staff undergo training on warehouse management and disposal management
