Users' Perception towards Energy Efficient Buildings
A well-designed energy efficient building maintains the best environment for human habitation while minimising the cost of energy. The energy-efficient buildings are to improve the comfort levels of the occupants and reduce energy use (electricity, natural gas, etc) for heating, cooling and lighting (Development and Land Use Policy Manual for Australia, 2000 and United Nations, 1991). This paper is an inquiry to investigate the users' perceptions towards lights and space of energy-efficient buildings. The research is based on qualitative and quantitative data collection. The findings revealed that users have mixed feelings towards light and space, especially with the use of new working practices i.e. hot desking, hotelling etc
Concept of Night City: A new dimension to a city's economy
As an outcome of a comprehensive study on an area of 385.401 acres, a township in Alor Gajah, Malacca, was redesigned based on an innovative idea, ‘concept of night city’. The concept is believed to be economically viable. By using space syntax, an analysis of movement as well as the amount of activity likely to result from the movement is performed on the layout to determine if the redesign functions successfully. Results of the spatial analyses showed improvements in connectivity, integration, intelligibility and synergy levels. Based on the buildings, the future town of Alor Gajah looks viable spatially

Ecological Perspectives of ICT Affordances in Malaysian Higher Education Learning Environment
There is a continuous struggle on understanding learning settings, particularly with ICT integrations (i.e. incorporate the use of ICT in teaching and learning practice and environment). This paper aims to illuminate an alternative means of understanding the virtual learning environment which is through affordances (perception-action coupling). A qualitative inquiry was implemented in gathering participants' experiences and perceptions regarding ICT integration in teaching practices through focus group discussions and semi-structured interviews. This study shows that preferences for ICT integration in a learning environment are closely related to ICT affordances. Understanding ICT affordances is indispensable in order to assess the conduciveness of learning environments with ICT integrations
Malaysian Perspective on the Development of Accessible Design
Malaysia has been actively providing accessibility in the built environment since the country signed the Proclamation on the Full Participation and Equality of People with Disabilities in the Asia-Pacific Region in 1994. However, Malaysia has limitations in enforcing legislation pertaining to accessibility. One of the concerns was the local authorities role in having their own mechanisms to create an accessible built environment. The objective is to highlight the gaps in Malaysia's regulations and to illustrate the research development of the Accessible Design infrastructure for disabled people. The outcome will describe Malaysia's experience in Accessible Design
Identifying Culs-De-Sac Courtyard Neighbourhoods In Shah Alam
Culs-de-sac in Shah Alam has begun to take centre stage, especially in the high-end neighbourhood developments. Typically, these neighbourhoods can be easily identified. However, in contrast to developed nations, the local municipality has yet to begin identifying neighbourhood typologies. This paper endeavours to elucidate sampling or identification process procedures of the cul-de-sac neighbourhood. The cul-de-sac was identified by observing intersection connectivity, link-node ratios, as well as street segment analysis; assimilation of techniques used in recent western methodologies. Scaled macro to micro map analysis aligned sequentially in sieves, allows for the identification of specific cul-de-sac syntax; one, in particular, is the cul-de-sac courtyards
