Fading Voices: A Study on the Decline of Local English Literature Appreciation among Senior High School Students across the Philippines
This study comprehensively examines studies on senior high school students' declining appreciation of Philippine local English literature that were published between 2020 and 2025. It looks at how globalization and digital media impact students' interest in local texts, assesses curriculum approaches and instructional strategies that encourage literary engagement, and identifies the root causes of this decline. Following the PRISMA 2020 protocol, the review examined empirical research on the appreciation, perception, or teaching of Philippine local English literature in senior high schools from ERIC, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, and Academia.edu. The results show that students' declining appreciation is caused by a lack of contextualization of texts, an excessive dependence on Western literature, memorization-based assessment methods, and inadequate teacher preparation. Examples of effective interventions include task-based learning, contextualized learning resources, multiple methods, and new teaching approaches focused on students that connect literature to their real-world experiences. However, there are still insufficient research needs in the areas of readiness development, digital equity, assessment reform, and the creation of repositories for texts written by Filipino authors. The review concludes that reviving literary appreciation needs to include interactive and culturally relevant teaching methods. It also calls for greater access to locally relevant resources. It also emphasizes the necessity of enhancing educators' capacity to sustain students' interest in literature over time. Enhancing learning outcomes, preserving cultural identity, and increasing national awareness depend on these developments in Philippine local English literature
Students’ Perception Towards Sex Education Curriculum on the Usage of Contraceptive to Pills to Combat Teenage Pregnancy
This study aims to assess the students' knowledge about teenage pregnancy through contraceptive pills under the curriculum of sex education. A descriptive research design was used to gather students' perceptions of the sex education curriculum and the use of contraceptive pills to combat teenage pregnancy. Moreover, using a questionnaire would help identify the advantages and disadvantages of contraceptive pills for teenagers. Based on the result of the study, the researchers conclude that the results of the analysis of the data acquired, the following statements are provided as a summary of the findings. The data revealed that most respondents strongly agreed with the words of our survey questionnaire—the extent of agreement of most sampled respondents towards sex education, teenage pregnancy, and contraceptive pills
Improving the Writing Skills of Grade 10 Students through the Strategic Use of Transitional Devices for Cohesion and Coherence
This study investigated the effectiveness of using transitional devices to enhance the writing skills of Grade 10 students at Kapalong National High School. Specifically, it aimed to determine how a 4-week intervention focusing on explicit instruction and guided practice in transitional devices could improve students’ writing performance. A quantitative descriptive research design was employed, involving 50 purposively selected students who completed pretest and posttest assessments measuring five writing indicators: content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. Results showed a marked improvement in mean scores, from 50.70 (pretest) to 82.50 (posttest), with the most significant gains in grammar and organization. A paired samples t-test confirmed a statistically significant difference, t(49) = 10.92, p < .001. This demonstrates the strong positive effect of the intervention. In addition, thematic analysis of student interviews revealed enhanced cohesion, clearer logical flow, improved paragraph unity, and better readability. Students expressed greater confidence and clarity in organizing their ideas. The study concludes that teaching transitional devices is a practical strategy for improving writing competence and recommends its wider adoption in language instruction at various grade levels
Critical Thinking Disposition and Mathematics Productivity of Students: A Convergent Parallel Study
This study examined the relationship between critical thinking disposition and mathematics productivity, highlighting how critical thinking skills contribute to enhanced mathematical performance and sustained engagement. Using a mixed-methods design with a parallel convergent approach, quantitative data were collected from 245 randomly selected students, while qualitative insights were gathered from 14 purposively chosen participants through interviews and focus groups. Results revealed a high level of both critical thinking disposition and mathematics productivity, with a significant positive correlation, r (243) = .821, p < .001. Qualitative findings emphasized the importance of teaching and learning strategies, real-world applications, and the cultivation of curiosity, while also identifying cognitive barriers to problem-solving. Students reported gains in practical skills, engagement, and perseverance. Integration of the data confirmed that a strong critical thinking disposition enhances mathematics productivity by improving problem analysis, logical reasoning, and sustained effort. The study underscores the critical role of dynamic, supportive classroom environments in fostering these outcomes
Enhancing Students' Spelling Proficiency through the Use of Digital Applications: An Action Research Study
The purpose of this descriptive quantitative study was to address the spelling proficiency among high school students. The study participants were 34 seventh-grade students from Baltazar Nicor Valenzuela National High School. The study introduced an intervention called Digital Application Intervention to improve student spelling proficiency. The pre-test and post-test results showed a significant difference: the pre-test had a mean score of 14.3 (SD = 5.81), while the post-test showed a mean score of 43.6 (SD = 3.62). The statistical analysis revealed improvement in spelling proficiency following the intervention, t (33) = 29.4 p<.001. Findings suggest that the intervention effectively improved students’ mastery levels. To provide a comprehensive understanding of the students' insights during and after the intervention, the researchers conducted interviews with selected individuals. From the responses gathered, five themes emerged regarding the insights of students: (1) enhanced learning engagement and motivation from using the digital applications, (2) using digital applications in the intervention as helpful in mastering word spelling, (3) confusing in-app instructions as a learning barrier, (4) immediate feedback and correction as notable and helpful features of the digital applications, and (5) deeper understanding of words through the integration of word spelling in sample sentences. Educators are encouraged to adopt digital tools across subjects to create more interactive and engaging learning environments tailored to modern learners. To maximize effectiveness, developers and teachers must ensure that digital applications offer clear, user-friendly instructions to avoid confusion and support student success

Lighting the Path: The Accounts of Cooperating Teachers of Pre- service Elementary Teachers
This study explored the experiences, coping strategies, and insights of cooperating teachers in developing pre-service elementary teachers. It was guided by Vygotsky’s Sociocultural Theory, Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory, and Bandura’s Social Learning Theory, all of which emphasize learning through social interaction, experience, and observation. The research aimed to understand how cooperating teachers help shape future educators. Using a qualitative phenomenological design, the study involved fourteen cooperating teachers from Maniki Central Elementary School, chosen through purposive sampling. We collected data through in-depth interviews with seven participants and focus group discussions with another seven. Thematic analysis revealed five themes from their experiences: mentoring student-teachers for practical teaching, challenges in managing teaching duties, modeling good teaching practices, different mentoring styles, and effective time management techniques. Coping strategies included fostering open communication with mentees, balancing teaching and mentoring responsibilities, giving feedback after conferences, teaming up with fellow mentors, and providing motivation and support. Participants shared insights about gaining knowledge through experiential learning, acting as catalysts for developing teaching skills, reinforcing key pedagogical competencies, encouraging shared learning in mentoring, and strengthening mentorship through organized support and ongoing development. The findings indicate that cooperating teachers are crucial in nurturing the growth of future educators through meaningful, collaborative, and reflective mentoring experiences
