Tim McCarver Baseball Card

Native Memphian James Timothy McCarver played baseball while at Christian Brothers High School under the coaching of Tony Gagliano, classmate Phil Gagliano’s uncle. McCarver became a Major League Baseball player. He played from 1959 to 1980, primarily with the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies. He was a two-time World Series champion and two-time National League All-Star. McCarver is one of four CBHS alumni to play in the World Series. In 1966, he was the first catcher since the 19th century to lead the National League in triples, and he was runner-up for the 1967 National League Most Valuable Player Award. In 2010, McCarver was inducted to the Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame. After retiring from baseball, he became a broadcaster. He won the Sports Emmy Award three times, earned the Ford C. Frick Award by the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012, and was a National Sports Media Association Hall of Fame inductee in 2024
