    Dr. Marguerite Copper at Renovated Theater Reception

    Dr. Marguerite Cooper (right) is with two unknown people at the first performance and reception at the newly renovated Theater in Spring 2007. Dr. Marguerite Cooper was the first student accepted into Memphis State University’s doctoral program, and she became the first woman at Memphis State to get a doctorate in chemistry. She joined Christian Brothers College in 1977, where her students called her “Dr. Mom.” She taught chemistry, natural science seminars, biochemistry, and lipids. CBC honored Dr. Cooper by establishing the Dr. Marguerite Cooper Distinguished Science Professor Award in 1988. She was awarded the Brother Dominic Dunn Service Award by Christian Brothers University in 1994. Additionally, the Cooper-Wilson Center for Life Sciences was named in her honor after 30 years of service. In 2009, Dr. Cooper retired when she was 91
