Systems Thinking is Inclusive Thinking
Today’s organizations are making a concerted effort to demonstrate greater inclusivity in their workplace practices, their processes, and their larger cultures. Research has shown diverse organizations are more innovative, adaptable, and regarded as better places to work by current and potential employees. Systems thinking frames the organization as a single, interconnected and interdependent system, and abandons many of the traditional organizational concepts which stand in the way of inclusion. Through its emphasis on holism, fostering productive relationships, multidirectional communication, and transparency, systems thinking creates an organizational culture that actively includes and empowers. 
All-Gender Restrooms: Necessary and Possible
Do you have an all-gender restroom in your workplace? Why not? Recently, a task force at the University of North Texas (UNT) Library Annex, a library building office space at a tier-one research university in Denton, Texas, recognized the need for an all-gender restroom in our workplace. We executed an operational plan to convert an existing restroom at the UNT Library Annex into an all-gender restroom. This article provides insight into our process, explores challenges that arose, shares lessons learned, and gives words of advice. In finishing this article, the reader will understand the need for an all-gender restroom in the workplace, as well as practical steps to manage an all-gender restroom addition of their own
Leadership Effectiveness: A Systematic Literature Review
The aim of this systematic literature review is to investigate the studies in the factors affecting leadership effectiveness and to establish a theoretical background for future studies. A total of 24 studies covering the leadership effectiveness in case of different sectors from 2015 to 2023 were conducted and as well as analysed via a PRISMA method using the descriptive content analysis and used research characteristics results using SPSS Version 25, Excel and VOS Viewer software were used for bibliometric analysis. These studies were found in the Scopus, Taylor and Francis, Web of Science, PubMed and Wiley databases. Since leadership effectiveness depends on the features of the organization, professional skill motivation, understanding of what constitutes leadership; Leadership models, working experience, and corruption are the main determinants. The study reviews 24 research publications from a reputable database using systematic review methods, then carefully analyses and combines the results in descriptive content and bibliometric analysis. The results suggest that the topic will continue to attract more research, as it has not yet entered
Improving Research Support Services in Indonesian Academic Libraries: A Recommendation for Business Process Reengineering Implementation Strategies
The increasing role of Indonesian academic digital libraries in research support services has the consequences of changing the business process. Business process reengineering (BPR) needs to be implemented with business models and business processes that have been developed. Successful implementation requires appropriate strategies according to specific characteristics. This study aims to develop a BPR implementation strategy for improving research support services in Indonesian academic digital libraries. The study is qualitative research with a grounded theory method (GTM) approach. Interviews were conducted with four academic library managers with predetermined characteristics. Coding, memoing, and constant comparison are looping data analyses to achieve data saturation. Strategy recommendations and related issues are mapped in a diagram. This research has designed 36 strategies to address issues arising in implementing BPR in Indonesian academic libraries. The strategy is unique regarding several issues that have not emerged in previous research. This is triggered by the characteristics of academic libraries as non-profit organizations and the management of research resources that require collaboration between units. The main issues that arise are staff awareness, improvement motivation, gradual implementation, limited resources, lack of cooperation, lack of top management support and communication, limited budget, and monitoring and evaluation. In contrast to previous studies conducted on BPR implementation strategy in profit organizations, this study designed the implementation strategy of BPR for nonprofit organizations, especially for academic digital libraries towards research support services
Cataloging with Confidence: Mentoring to Support Cataloger Growth
Mentorship provides opportunities for both novice and experienced catalogers to develop their skills and learn what it means to catalog in a cooperative environment. Often libraries do not have the resources to provide specialized training for the new cataloger, making a formal mentorship program outside one’s institution particularly useful. This paper will examine key elements that ensure a successful mentorship pairing, how the authors integrated these components into practice, and how the authors customized their program to address the mentee’s greatest area of need: finding practical solutions to both common and challenging serials cataloging questions
More Than Just Boxes and Lines on a Page: Stories from a Special Collections Department Reorganization
Interested in leveraging a reorganization to bring about sustained and meaningful organizational and cultural change, the author developed a multi-step process anchored by three decision-making drivers that guided the work. These drivers helped the author articulate to herself and the department the “why” behind the reorganization and to keep focused on those drivers during even the messiest parts of the process. The case study presented here describes the author’s process and lessons learned
Where Do We Start? Building a Library Mentorship Program for Undergraduate Students
Mentorship programs mutually benefit academic libraries and student mentees. The main benefit of library mentorship programs to academic libraries is that they supplement the workforce and increase student employee morale. In addition, mentorship programs help students acquire and strengthen skills essential for academic success and future employment. This article articulates how Mercy College Libraries’ developed an experiential learning opportunity for its student employees. The authors also highlight their experiences and identify aspects of a mentorship program that must be considered before implementation
