Blood Glucose Levels of Patients With Diabetes in the Immediate Post-Acute Hemodialysis Period: An Exploratory Study

    No full text
Problem/Purpose. To establish the evidence on which to base a protocol for monitoring capillary blood glucose in hospitalized patients with diabetes mellitus in the immediate post-acute hemodialysis period. Sample. Hospitalized, non-critically ill, adult patients (n = 68) with diabetes undergoing acute hemodialysis treatments. Methods. Capillary blood glucose was tested 30 minutes prior to the end of the hemodialysis treatment, at the end of the treatment, and 30 minutes and 60 minutes post-treatment. Data were analyzed to determine both within and between patient variability. Results. Glucose levels varied widely before, during, and after hemodialysis, with greatest variability at 60 minutes post-hemodialysis. Levels did not vary based on diabetes type or admitting diagnosis. Possible relationships were identified with length of treatment, insulin administration prior to treatment, and food consumed within an hour after treatment. Conclusions/Nursing Implications. Testing post-dialysis glucose levels earlier than 60 minutes post-treatment may miss the need for additional medication

A counterexample to a conjecture of Ghosh

We answer two questions of Shamik Ghosh in the negative. We show that there exists a lobster tree of diameter less than 6 which accepts no alpha-labeling with two central vertices labeled by the critical number and the maximum vertex label. We also observe that this simple example is a tree of diameter 4 with an even degree central vertex which does not accept a maximum label in any graceful labeling

Country-specific strategy and new venture formation in Central and East Europe

    No full text
In this study, we examine the influence of three country-specific strategies (market-seeking, client-following and resource-seeking) on new venture formation decisions for firms entering Central and East Europe. We found that market-seeking and resource-seeking strategies tend to influence venture choice while no such relationship was found for firms pursuing a client-following investment strategy. We conclude by discussing the implications of our findings for future research on new venture formation
