Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away on September 24, 2015 after a two year battle with cancer. A brilliant artistic and 
scientific mind, Nesanet achieved excellence in her academic and extracurricular pursuits from a young age. While 
attending the University Laboratory School, Nesanet performed as a violinist with the Hawaii Youth Symphony, sang 
with various select choirs, and won multiple awards for her paintings, including the Kaha Ki’i Congressional Art 
Competition. She represented Hawaii at the America’s Junior Miss Scholarship Competition and was also selected as a 
National Science Foundation Pacific Region Young Scholar. Nesanet continued her pursuit of scientific study, 
completing her undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering at Stanford University where she subsequently 
attained both a medical degree and PhD in Genetics. She specialized in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the 
University of Washington and received clinical and research grants from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to 
pursue advanced training in MS. Upon completion of her residency and fellowship, Nesanet accepted a position as 
Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine and Neurology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City 
where she focused her research and clinical work on MS with the goal of creating new and improved treatments for

March 17, 1926 in Hilea, Hawaii to Pedro and Benita Gomez. Patricio grew up in the city of Naalehu. He served in U.S. 
Army in the 8th Calvary Regiment where he participated in the U.S. occupation of Japan at the end of World War II. 
Patricio became a carpenter for the Hutchinson Sugar Plantation and later enrolled at the Hilo Commercial College in 
which he obtained his clerk typist- certificate in 1950. He was later hired to work at the Pacific Proving Grounds on 
Enewetak Atoll. Patricio then entered federal civil service and married his sweetheart Maximina. Patricio enjoyed 
raising his children into adults. He retired with 39 years as a federal civil servant and 10 years as a State of Hawaii 
employee. Patricio was a member of the Saint Joseph Church of Waipahu and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fort 
Shafter Post. Patricio is survived by his wife, Maximina; sons, Michael (Donna), Gary, Darryl (Cynthia), Glenn (Diane); 
daughters, Roxanne (Jonathan) Spatig and Francine (Christopher) Cozo; 7 grand- children; and 3 great-grand- children; 
sister, Florence Ragan. Family, friends, and others whose lives Patricio touched are invited to a funeral program at 9:00 
a.m., which includes a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, November 30 at Saint Joseph Church, 94-675 Farrington 
Highway, Waipahu. At 1:00 p.m., his ashes will be interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific

AGARD, LOUIS K. 'BUZZY', JR., 91, son of Louis Kruse Agard and Aloie Maria Prestidge Agard of Kealia, Kauai, died in 
Honolulu on October 27, 2015. Born on February 25, 1924, Louis was a 1942 graduate of Kamehameha Schools. He 
attended the University of Redlands and served in the United States Army. Louis lived a life of aloha aina and onipaa, 
tending to bountiful fruit trees at his Kawailoa property, fishing for decades in Hawaiian waters and abroad, and 
teaching thousands about food propagation and fisheries conservation. He served for many years as a member of the 
Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council and was instrumental in the creation of Papahanaumokuakea 
Marine National Monument in the Northwest Hawaiian Islands. He recently updated his 1983 publication, Politics, 
Hawaiian Sandalwood Trees, and Hope, drawing broad community interest with a recently discovered expose of the US 
government's less than passive role in the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom in 1893. His love for the lahui and 
realizing Hawaiian independence were tireless efforts that he fought for with every fiber of his being. He served on 
numerous community service organizations and boards, including the Hawaiian Homes Commission, Queen Liliuokalani 
Children's Center Advisory Council, the Council of Hawaiian Organizations, the Native Hawaiian Study Commission, the 
Hawaiian Environmental Alliance (KAHEA), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). He was 
recently honored by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) for a lifetime of work in support of his Hawaiian people. He 
will be greatly missed by all who knew him as well as many who only knew of him and his work. Louis was predeceased 
by his wife, Irma Ruth Silva Agard. He is survived by his brother John, son Louis III (Carol), daughter Lesley (Ormond 
Hammond), grandchildren Louis K. Agard IV, Kekuni Agard, Adrian Agard and Kealakai Hammond, and great- 
grandchildren Joie, Alexus, and Jacob Agard, and Amaru Trujillo. Services will be held at Nuuanu Memorial Park

forever be remembered for her generosity and kind heart, but mostly for the love and compassion she had for animals, 
especially her boys, Reno, Hercules, Chewy, Apollo, Kain, Sergeant, and Maximus. Christina is survived by her husband,
