In loving memory of RALPH DECAMBRA SR. He passed peacefully on November 3, 2017 in Murphy Oregon. He was 75 
years old. He was born on November 19, 1941, in Honolulu Hawaii to William and Helen. He worked for the 
Department of transportation (Highway Division) for 29 1/2 years. On April 23, 1978 he married the love of his life 
Janice K.N., the couple had four children together. Ralph enjoyed fishing, working and most of all spending time with 
his family. He will always be remembered as loving, caring, funny and most of all a very big heart. Ralph is survived by: 
his wife Janice K.N. DeCambra, son Vernon (Kiule) Featheran of Kaneohe, Hawaii daughter April Hall of Oregon, son 
Ralph DeCambra Jr. of Kaneohe, Hawaii, daughter Janelle (honeygirl) DeCambra of Kaneohe, Hawaii and eight 
grandchildren. Brothers Stanley Cambra and Michael DeCambra Maui, Hawaii. He was preceded in death by his parents 
William and Helen DeCambra and brothers: William DeCambra, Robert DeCambra and Walter DeCambra all of 
Kaneohe Hawaii. A Private Celebration of life will be held with family and close friends. Professional services conducted 
by Chapel of the Valley-L.B. Hall Funeral Home.

Lindley, Hollister J., passed away Friday, November 3, 2017. If you're reading this, I am gone. I was born in Oak Park 
Illinois to Walter and Dorothy Lindley. The family moved to Honolulu when I was three years old. So Honolulu was 
always what I consider home. I was an active and precocious child and began studying at Punahou in the first grade. I 
was all arms and legs and pretty good size feet. The swim coach saw a perfect swimming build and that began 10 years 
of 5 a.m. in the pool, out at 7:30 to go to class, back in at 3, out at 5, homework, dinner, and bed. Given my energy 
levels, swimming probably allowed me to do well in school. I made many friends at Punahou that I still kept in touch 
with until my death. One year at the University of Denver was enough of high desert, so I returned to Honolulu and 
enrolled in the University of Hawaii. I studied drama and theater and French. A volcanology class and a chemistry class 
to keep things interesting. I graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1974. My mom was a multiple Association 
manager and I learned a great deal working for my mother. As an only child, I was often in the kitchen with my mom 
who was a very good cook. It was a passionate hobby of mine until ALS took it away. My first marriage took me from 
Honolulu to New England. I began working for the New England Chapter of one of the associations my mother ran in 
Honolulu. From there I got into sales. My first sales territory was Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, 
Rhode Island and I quit when they gave me upstate New York. Next job took me to Philadelphia and an equally large 
sales territory. My work in that region led to a promotion to the home office. It took a while to adjust to Erie 
Pennsylvania, but I made some wonderful friends I kept for years. While responsible for operating room tables at 
American Sterilizer, I was approached by an orthopedic company in Warsaw Indiana for product management position. 
First day on the job I read Campbell's Intraoperative Orthopedics, cover to cover, twice. It was a fascinating job and 
allowed me to bring some products to market that changed the way we do orthopedic surgery. I then became the 
director of field marketing for Zimmer and covered eastern United States. Based out of Wilmington Delaware, I built up 
some frequent flyer miles to manage my staff of six. During this time, my father died and my mother became 
extremely ill with Guillain-Barre syndrome. I left Zimmer to care for my mother. After months of hard work, my mother 
recovered well enough to return home. A phone call from an old friend changed everything. The old friend asked me 
where I wanted to live. I said first Richmond Virginia, second Baltimore Maryland or third, we all stay in the Philly area. 
Well, the job my friend knew about was in Richmond. I came to Richmond to work for Owens and Minor. It was 
different, but it was rewarding and challenging. It was a fascinating few years and I always said I learned a lot from 
those guys. After Owens and Minor and starting the Virginia Biotechnology Association, I worked with VCU under a 
Department of Commerce grant to exchange biotechnology with Russia. It was challenging and fascinating and very 
exotic for a woman that grew up with the Asian cultures. I learned enough Russian to introduce myself, find the 
restroom, and order food. A respect for the Russian people and an appreciation of their culture stayed with me. When 
my mother moved to town, I retired early and became a personal trainer and water aerobics instructor. Then came the 
gig for writing restaurant reviews for Richmond magazine, probably one of the most fun jobs out of all the ones I held. I 
had a great deal of fun watching the food scene grow and become more sophisticated in Richmond. And they all are 
such great people. My mother came to Richmond to address some of her health struggles, passing away in 2006. As an 
only child, it was a very tough time for me. But with support from friends, I got through that era and moved on. I did 
not know it at the time but the first symptom of ALS came in 2008 when I was out on the West Coast visiting cousins. I 
dropped my chopsticks, which doesn't sound important until you realize I grew up in Honolulu and could use chopsticks 
before I could use a fork. The weakness in the right hand continued and eventually the ulnar nerve was repositioned. 
The hand got better for a while, then it got worse. A referral to the UVA neurology department started a long process 
of diagnosis. I had a probable diagnosis in 2009 but, correctly, I was not told by the specialists until the definitive 
diagnosis of ALS in the fall of 2011. Needing to feel useful, I became an advocate for awareness of ALS. The Richmond 
Times-Dispatch followed me and other ALS patients bringing awareness to the disease. I wrote a blog, lobbied Congress 
and did what I could do to explain this rare disease to others. I will always be grateful to my friends in the restaurant 
industry who helped raise money to cure this disease. And it will be cured, but not in my lifetime. If you want to honor

KAREL A. LING On the morning of Friday November 3rd, 2017, Karel A. Ling was called home to our Heavenly Father. 
Karel was born in Bend, Oregon on March 23rd, 1940. She met her husband Kenneth K. M. Ling (deceased), while 
attending Linfield College where she graduated with a BA Degree in Social Work. Both Karel and Kenneth used their 
Social Work degrees to help many challenged youths during their tenure at Palama Settlement. Karel went on to work 
at the Hawai'i Children's Justice Center, and Koolau Boy's Home (Hawaii Youth Correctional Center). Karel retired in 
2002, from Marine Corps Base Hawaii - Communications Department. Karel loved her fellowship with Kailua Christian 
Church, her group bible studies with classes from Bible Institute of Hawaii, and being a member of the Windward YMCA 
Y's Men's Club, donating her time in helping others. Karel is survived by her three sons - Scot (Pauahi), Mark (Rennie), 
Lance (Shana), two daughters - Heidi Cummings (Walter Jr.) and Heather Bernal (Eric Sr.). She is also survived by her 
siblings - Karon Chapman, Robert Reed, Val Reed, and Rick Reed. Karel has 16 Grandchildren and 11 Great 
Grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at Borthwick Mortuary, on Maunakea Street, on Friday December 1st, 
2017. Visitation and viewing at 9:30am, Service at 10:30am with lunch to follow. Burial will be on the same day at

After graduating from High school, she worked briefly in a local hospital as an aide. She joined the Roller Derby in 
1949.For the next 16 years she traveled the world with the Derby, becoming one of the best known stars. She was 
inducted into the Roller Derby Hall of Fame in 2012. While skating in Hawaii she fell in love with the Aloha State and 
made it her home. She retired from the Derby in 1965 and went to work for Pan American Airlines until it closed in 
1999. Dolores is survived by her husband of 54 years, Raymond K. Chang and brothers Harry and Ken Doss of

1937 - 2017 Deborah Coward Damon passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 4, 2017 at the age of 80. She 
was surrounded by family. Born in New York City on November 11, 1937, daughter of Raymond and Winifred Coward 
and sister of Hugh Coward, Debby grew up in Bedford, New York and graduated from Miss Halls School in Pittsfield, 
Massachusetts and Briarcliff College in Briarcliff Manor, New York. She met Frank Damon on a family trip to Hawaii in 
1958 and they were married the following year at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Bedford, New York. Debby was 
active in the community for her whole life and was a member of the Junior League and the Garden Club of Honolulu. 
She also served on the Board of the KCAA Preschools of Hawaii and on the National Board of the Boys & Girls Club of 
America. More recently she was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was an avid bridge player and flower arranger. 
She had a refined aesthetic which she applied to home dcor, fashion, and landscaping. At different points in her life, 
Debby lived in Los Angeles, Connecticut, New York, Bermuda and London, but she was drawn back to Hawaii, which she 
always considered her home. She is survived by a large family including her four sons, Allen, Hugh, Thomas and 
Andrew, her two daughters-in-law, Delphine and Vanessa, as well as eight grandchildren, Sloan, Jack, Cole, Mahina, 
McKenna, Kobey, Luke and Drew. Services will be held at the Atherton Chapel at Central Union Church on January 4th, 
2018 at 1:00pm. There will be a reception following the service in the Atherton Courtyard. In lieu of flowers Debby 
would like donations to be made to The Garden Club of Honolulu.

MYERS, JAMES D. Of Sun City West, AZ, passed away December 4th. He was 71. Born in Honolulu, HI to Harry Calhoun 
Myers and Yoshi Tomita. He leaves behind his wife, Karla, brother Greg Myers and his wife Annette, son Brandon 
Myers, daughter Brittany Walsh and her husband Kelly, stepchildren Erik and his wife Nansi, Russ and Kari Lundgren, 
and 5 grandchildren, Cade, Charstel and Celt Walsh, and Chelsi and Haylie Lundgren. He will forever be remembered as 
the advertising guru of Hawaii, and publisher extraordinaire. He was also a devoted Lutheran and served in countless 
ways throughout the ELCA. A memorial service will be held at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West on Sunday, 
January 21st at 2:30pm. Gifts in honor of Jim may be sent to Lord of Life Lutheran Church Memorial Fund at 13724 W.

67, earned his angel wings on Monday, December 4, 2017 at Ala Moana Beach Park doing what he loved most - surfing. 
Hans was born on March 27, 1950 in Honolulu, Hawaii to George and Kay Sasaki. After graduating from Roosevelt High 
School in 1968 he went on to Berkley University where he earned his bachelors degree in 1972. Hans returned to 
Hawaii to work for an architectural firm (Group 70). Eventually Hans decided to study gemology at GIA and go into the 
family business, George Sasaki Jewelers Inc. He continued the family tradition of serving generations of families and in 
the process mentored his daughter, Aja, in the business. Hans believed in living life to the fullest and loved food, drink, 
cycling, yoga, karate and most of all - surfing. His ideal day started with The Courts Dawn Patrol Ohana to catch the first 
waves of the day before heading to work. Hans will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Margie, daughters Ashley and 
Aja, sister Lois and many cousins. The family invites friends and family of Hans to join in celebrating his life on Monday, 
December 18 from 4pm-6pm at the Pacific Club 1451 Queen Emma Street Honolulu, Hi 96813
