1/8/1928 - 9/17/2017 Two years after suffering a debilitating stroke, Commander, retired, U.S. Navy, Klaus Dieter 
Rennert, M.D. died in Aiea, Hawaii, Sept. 17, 2017. Born in Muehlhausen, Germany, Jan. 8, 1928, Klaus D. Rennert lived 
in Germany through WW II, having been conscripted as a seventeen-year old teenager during the last few weeks of the 
war. The help of distant relatives in the State of Kansas made it possible for Klaus D. Rennert to emigrate to the United 
States in 1951, where in Baltimore, Maryland, he studied medicine at Johns Hopkins University. He received his M.D. 
degree magna cum laude from the University of Munich in 1957. In the 1950s he sponsored his mother and siblings 
Helga, Hal and Gary who joined him in Baltimore and in Wichita, Kansas, where, after marrying Jeanne, his daughters 
Patricia and Heidi were born. He specialized in dermatology in Denver, Colorado, where he and his family lived until 
1983. After his divorce, Klaus D Rennert joined the U.S. Navy at the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 1983 in Long 
Beach, CA, and since 1985 in Aiea, Hawaii until 2011, when he retired. For more biographical detail about Klaus D. 
Rennert, U.S. Navy Chaplain Douglas Waite has published the booklet "God's Little Helper" at Hagadone Printing Co., 
Honolulu, HI 96819. Klaus D. Rennert is survived by his life-companion Patty, his daughters Sarah Oaks, Heidi Rennert, 
grandson Donovan, sister Helga Sallmon and three younger brothers Peter, Hal and Gary Rennert. Instead of flowers

ELISSA A. HEANANI CARTER "Lisa," age 75, passed away at her home in Honolulu surrounded by loved ones on October 
5, 2017. She was born on March 10, 1942 to Vivian and Thomas J. Carter, Jr.. Lisa graduated from President Theodore 
Roosevelt High School in 1959 and attended Woodbury College in California. She married but was later divorced and 
raised her two children as a single-parent. The family thrived alongside Lisa's mother, Vivian, who remained in the 
Carter household until her passing in 2006. She eventually retired after almost 35-years with the Honolulu Advertiser 
as an Ad Graphics Compositor. Lisa was a strong and independent woman with a zest for life and enjoyed sharing her 
love of literature, the arts and exquisite cuisine with those closest to her. She was a thoughtful gift-giver, an avid reader 
and had excellent taste. She adored Tom Selleck, loved classical music, everything Disney, The Food Network and never 
missed an episode of Star Trek or the ever-present and long-time running, Law & Order. She was a hobbyist collector 
and had a deep appreciation for both her Portuguese and Hawaiian culture and heritage. As a proud democrat, 
feminist and long-time union supporter (International Typographical Union Local 37), she had strong political views and 
wouldn't hesitate to speak her mind. She was highly intelligent, loyal, kind, generous and quick-witted. A treasured 
mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend and confidant, she is survived by her son, Kalani 
Formica (Katia); daughter, Kaipo Carter Warren; grandchildren, Amanda Moran, Brandon Formica, Andrew Formica, 
Breeanna Formica, Kira Guzman, Makenna Warren, Paisley Warren and seven great-grandchildren. ~ She will be deeply 
missed ~

Walter Joseph Fairfax, III, beloved father and grandfather, treasured brother and uncle, passed from this life peacefully 
in Newport Beach, California on October 5, 2017, after an extended battle with cancer. He was 75 years old. He was 
born in Chicago, Illinois on September 22, 1942 to Walter and Elizabeth Fairfax. Raised in West Covina, California, Walt 
graduated from West Covina High School and attended Mt. San Antonio College, earning an associate's degree in 
business. He spent his early working years in finance, real estate and restaurant ownership and the last twenty years of 
his career as a small business owner in the aerospace industry, retiring in 2003. Walt enjoyed traveling and he loved 
sports, especially basketball. Throughout his life, Walt was an avid golfer, boater and fisherman. He spent a good 
portion of his retirement years living in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he enjoyed golfing with his friends and taking his boat 
out to sea. He was an active booster club member for the University of Hawaii Men's Basketball Program. He was a 
generous and loving father and grandfather who loved to spend time with his family and enjoyed attending his 
grandchildren's activities, events, and performances. He is survived by his daughter Deborah Glenn (John) of Rancho 
Cucamonga, his son Kevin Fairfax (Carrie) of Newport Beach and seven grandchildren: Andrea Glenn, Alexandra 
Kolowena (Mitchell), Alana Glenn, Kathryn Glenn, Christopher Glenn, Sophia Fairfax and Julianna Fairfax. He also leaves 
brothers David Fairfax, Ronald Fairfax (Pamela), Guerin Fairfax and a sister, Bernadette Fairfax as well as numerous 
nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held on November 12th, at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona Del Mar 
with a celebration of life harbor cruise following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walt's name 
to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the University of Hawaii Men's Basketball Program.

He touched many lives as his lifetime ministry of serving our Lord was shared throughout the world. Hiroshi's presence 
will be greatly missed; however, we rejoice with him, as he is in the presence of our Loving Father. Preceded by his 
wife, Dorothy, he is survived by his children, Cynthia (John) Bortfeld, Sandra (Glenn) Shimabukuro, Calvin (Joy) Chinen, 
and Paul (Doreen) Chinen; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and his siblings, Fusako Chinen, Mitzi Yoshimoto,

Company, LP. A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. November 18, 2017 at Christ Church Episcopal in Kealakekua, 
Hawaii; reception will follow. He is survived by his wife, Carol Adamson Greenwell of Honokohau; sons, Michael

The Rev. Dr. Arthur W. Harvey, twelve-year resident of Ellenton, FL, went home to be with the Lord whom he loved 
and served his entire life on October 14, 2017. He was preceded in heaven by two of his daughters, Laurie Jo and 
Debbie. Arthur is survived by his loving, and well-loved wife, Patricia (Wilgus); son Charles (Lisa); two daughters Lois 
McFaddin (Robert); Cathy Harvey and many others. Arthur was a pastor, church musician, and minister of music even 
in his "semi-retirement", as music and ministry were his lifelong calling and passion. He was an educator for fifty-eight 
years, an international lecturer, working in more than 23 countries; an avid researcher, engaged teacher and mentor 
who was well loved by everyone who ever had the privilege to meet him. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be 
made in his honor to "The Rev. Dr. Arthur W. Harvey Endowed Scholarship" at Gordon College in Wenham, MA. We 
feel this will best honor his lifelong passion for and devotion to music education and ministry.
