LOUIS L. GOWANS, JR. Louis L. Gowans, Jr., 95, passed away on September 13, 2017 at Straub Hospital. Lou was born 
on March 16, 1922 in Honolulu, HI to Louis Lyman Gowans, Sr. and Helen Taylor Gowans. Lou grew up in Kaimuki and 
on Round Top Drive where he helped his father build both of the houses they lived in. He graduated from Punahou 
School in 1940 and with a handful of classmates attended Cal Tech in Pasadena, CA. His studies there were interrupted 
by WWII and he followed in his father's footsteps by training to be a pilot in the Navy. The war ended shortly after his 
training and he was put on reserve duty and then honorably discharged. He resumed his college education at Stanford 
University graduating with a Mechanical Engineering degree in 1946. Lou met his first wife at Cal Tech and together 
they moved to Honolulu where he was an engineer at Delmonte Cannery. He later married Jean Yaeko Kuniyuki, who 
was a secretary there, in 1961 and they were happily married for 56 years. Lou eventually left Delmonte and went to 
work for Magoon Brothers. By 1980 Lou's father was ready to hand over the family business, Metropolitan Properties, 
Ltd., and Lou, as President, ran the company until 2012 when he turned the reins over to his daughter, Julie. Unable to 
fully "retire" he became the CEO and stayed involved with the business until the day of his death. Education was very 
important to Lou's parents and they instilled this in him. During his life he supported many educational scholarships 
and funds at the schools he attended. He also set up a Daedalian/ROTC scholarship at the University of Hawaii and gave 
generously to the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation. People who knew Lou were entertained with his stories of 
his life adventures. He told stories about his schooling, building houses, training to be a pilot, working for Metropolitan 
in the early days and driving his beloved Porsche across the country; his storytelling will be missed. Lou valued his 
family above all else preferring to celebrate milestone birthdays by gathering his sons and daughters and their families 
to travel together. More adventures were had on these trips, especially the ones to Alaska! He will be remembered as 
a generous, strong and caring person with a sharp mind; a role model for many that knew him. Lou was preceded in 
death by his parents, Lyman and Helen, and sister Jane Gowans Sheetz. He is survived by his wife Jean and children 
Linda Listmann (Bob), Bruce (Susan), Julie Henderson (Tiffany), and Richard (Nani), grandchildren Braden, Erin, Matt, 
Taylor, Alec, and three great grand-children. A private scattering of Lou's ashes will be held on October 21, 2017. 
Anyone wishing to pay their respects can just head to the ocean; he was, after all, a Navy man. In lieu of flowers the 
family requests memorial donations be made to: Punahou School, (memo line)Louis '40 and Jean Gowans Endowed 
Financial Aid Fund. Address: Punahou School, Advancement Office, 1601 Punahou St, Honolulu, HI 96822. Gifts can also 
be made online at Punahou School (same notation in memo line).

and Leocadio Ibrao. A graduate of Waialua High School (Class of 1950) and the University of Hawaii (Class of 1954). 
Gladys retired as an educator from the Hawaii Department of Education. Attractive and intelligent, her hearty jokes 
and laughter kept things a jumpin'. She enjoyed fishing, growing flowers in her garden, and quilting. Most of all she 
loved her dog, Ginger. Her brothers, James Ibrao and Stanley Ibrao, brother-in-law, Gilbert Fooks, and 4 generations of 
nieces and nephews survive her. A service will be held at the Mililani Downtown Chapel, 20 S. Kukui Street, at 10 am on 
Thursday, October 26, followed by her interment at 1:30 pm at Punchbowl National Cemetery where she will join her 
husband, Sgt. Gerald Keniston. Casual attire and flowers permitted.

GTE Hawaiian Tel, Ronald worked at Aloha Airlines as a Contract Service employee. Ronald was a Century Plus Donor 
for the Hawaii Blood Bank. Ronald is survived by his wife, Alice; sons Darry (Lori) and Blaine (Melissa); 4 grandchildren, 
Christian, Taylor, Ty, and Trey. A memorial service celebrating Ronald's life will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 
at Hosoi Garden Mortuary at 30 North Kukui Street in downtown Honolulu. Visitation is at 9:00 am. Service is at 10:00

82, passed away on November 8, 2017. He was born and raised in Honolulu, graduated from McKinley High School 
(1953), Missouri Valley College (1957), and received a professional teaching certificate from the University of Hawaii 
(1959). In 1960, he was hired by United Press International (UPI) in Honolulu as a general assignment reporter. Three 
years later, he transferred to the San Francisco UPI office where he worked as a sports writer, and then as the 
overnight editor, Pacific Division. In 1980, UPI promoted him to bureau chief in Honolulu. He resigned in 1988. In 1988, 
he was employed by the state of Hawaii Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) as an economic 
development specialist, working to attract sports events to Hawaii. One of the successful projects was the Pete Newell 
Big Man Camp. In 1993, he joined the Associated Press (AP) in Honolulu. In 1994, he was appointed bureau chief and 
was responsible for AP operations in Hawaii and the Central Pacific. He retired in 2001. His sons, Kevin and Kyle, were 
the pride and joy of his life. He left a written message to them, hoping his life advice would help them live a good life. 
The following is part of the message. THINGS YOU GUYS SHOULD DO: -Don't bring shame to the family name. -Keep 
your word. When you say you're going to do something, DO IT PROMPTLY. -Finish what you start. -When you're 
finished, put things away. -Don't be judgmental of people. Respect their rights, even if they have different religious or 
political beliefs, etc. If someone violates your trust, remember that and treat them accordingly in the future. Gordon is 
survived by wife Jean; sons Kevin (Lori) and Kyle; grandsons Kolten and Keegan; sister Edith Hasegawa (Wallace); and 
brother Richard (Lanette). He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Tatsuko Sakamoto. A private 
"Celebration of Life" was held. Family requested no flowers or monetary gifts. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi

November 20, 2017 in Honolulu with family by his side. He was born on June 20, 1957 in Oakland, CA. Joining us, 
daughters Stephanie Letro of Hilo and Heather Clarke of Kapolei, in our sorrow are devoted ex-wife and caregiver 
Debra Clarke of Kapolei, son-in-law Nathan Letro and grandchildren Liliana, Isaiah, Saraiah, and Elijah Letro of Hilo, 
father Bruce Sr. (Becky), siblings Bruce (Francesca), Norman (Donna), Rachel Clarke, and brother-in-law Ken Ewell all of 
FL, and loving nieces and nephews. Ray inspired all who knew him. Although we will miss him, we are comforted in

side at her home in Reno, Nevada on November 20, 2017. Lil studied at the Melrose Hospital, Melrose Massachusetts 
from 1941-1944 graduating with her Registered Nursing Diploma. She entered the Army Medical Corps to serve in 
WWII. While in the Army stationed in Hawaii she fell in love with her husband Pierce, who was an Army Air Corps pilot. 
They married in 1947 and enjoyed 57 years of marriage together and raised five happy children while living in locations 
around the world as a military family. She was preceded in death by her father Thomas Archibald Boyd, mother Annie 
Florence, brothers Harry, Garrett & James and her husband Pierce M. Myers, Jr. and one grandson. Lil is survived by 
her children, Susan Miller (Bob), Janice Olsen (Rich), Pierce III (Jessie), Gary (Elaine), and Doug (Julie). She is also 
survived by 6 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Memorial services will be held at Punchbowl National Memorial 
Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Lillian had requested that donations be
