She was the only child of Masakazu and Shizuyo (Kurata) Takasaki. Jane was a graduate of McKinley High School, Class 
of 1939, where she met her future husband, Barney Sato, Class of 1938. After high school she attended the Margaret 
Dietz Commercial School and finishing school in Japan. In 1946, she married Barney "Shige" Sato and subsequently 
helped in the family business, Sato Clothiers, Ltd. for many years. She supported Barney in his career, extra-curricular 
sports activities, and charitable pursuits. While raising three children, Barney and Jane enjoyed traveling the world, 
were active in the Ala Moana Lions, and pursued the perfect golf swing. A "tomboy in her early years, Jane was a 
modern individual who was eager to keep up with current ideas. She was also an excellent seamstress, dressed well, 
and loved to follow the new fashion trends. Her greatest pride was her children and grandchildren, her dear long- time 
friendships, and "that" once- in-a-lifetime hole-in-one at Mid- Pacific Golf Club. She continued to have fond memories 
of her childhood days with the friends of Pu'unui Street and Serreno Lane. She is survived by children: Daryl (Amy) 
Sato, Linda (Frederic) Sato-Juras, and Myron (Sharlyn) Sato; five grandchildren; Mele, Kimi, Mari, Keola and Kari; and 
one great-grandchild, Mia. Private family services were held at Punchbowl on October 23. Arrangements Provided By:

Richard. Her feisty and generous spirit will live on in all who knew and loved her. Services will be held on November 9,

the American Jujitsu Institute since 2012. He had no children. He is survived by sisters Roxanne Lawson of the Big 
Island, Ronnie Maiden of California, and brother Jack Hoffman of California. He is also survived by Hanai brother Daniel 
Saragosa of Wahiawa and numerous brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews of the Saragosa / 
Riveira family. Bob will be remembered in a Celebration of Life gathering to be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 
from 6:00.-8:00 p.m. at Dot's Restaurant Banquet Room, 130 Mango Street, Wahiawa. Casual Attire! His ashes will be 
scattered at sea, outside of Poka'i Bay in a private ceremony on a later date. Please come and join us.

the West Side. Rudy will be missed by all who knew and loved him; he was generous of his time and love for all that he

Brother Koko Kanaloa, Sisters Connie Furtado and Doreen San Diego all live in Hawaii. John was preceded in death by 
his parents, brother Anthony and sister Carmella. From 1953 he served in the Army and was awarded a National 
Defense Service Medal before serving as a reservist until 1961. He attended the University of Hawaii graduating with a 
Bachelors degree in Business Administration. John began his 25-year career in law enforcement with the Honolulu 
Police Department in 1956 and rose the ranks to become Assistant Chief of Police HPD before being selected as Police 
Chief for the county of Maui. John retired from the Maui County Police Department after serving five years as Police 
Chief. John was institutional for many proud accomplishments during his leadership from 1976-1981. Services will be 
held beginning at 9:30 AM on Sunday October 29th at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary. Burial and blessings will 
follow service at Valley of the Temples Cemetery. Memorial Services in Arizona will be held in Tempe, Arizona on 
Saturday, November 11, 2017.

BEVERLY NOA KENNEY Beverly Kauiokanahele Rivera Noa Kenney passed away after a three year battle with cancer on 
October 19, 2017. Born June 14, 1933, in Los Angeles, California to Benny Rivera and Victoria Miller, Beverly was raised 
in Honolulu where she graduated from Farrington High School. At the age of six, she was introduced to hula by Aunty 
Louise Beamer and later studied under the revered 'Iolani Luahine. At the age of 18, Bev was crowned Miss Hawaii 
1952 and traveled throughout the continental US promoting Hawaii and sharing her hula magic. Her professional 
career started as a featured dancer at Don the Beachcomber's in Waikiki. Beverly has graced the stage in top 
showrooms in Hawaii including the Hilton Hawaiian Village's Tapa Room, The Royal Hawaiian Hotel, and the Halekulani 
where she shared the stage with Ed Kenney and some of Hawaii's most notable singers and dancers. She became a 
favorite model for Kamehameha Garment Company and Alfred Shaheen and became the Hawaii Visitor Bureau's 
"poster girl" which won her national recognition and acclaim. Beverly's love for fashion led her fashion career to be 
part of the first Calvin Klein and Chanel retail teams in Hawaii. With all her professional success, her greatest 
accomplishments in life are her two children and family. She married Fred Noa, Sr. and had her firstborn son, Fred Noa, 
Jr., a principal at Bluerock Partners. Later married singer Ed Kenney Jr., and together they had their son, chef and 
restaurateur, Ed Kenney. Beverly Noa Kenney is survived by sons Fred (Ginger) Noa and Edward (Spanky) Kenney and 
grandchildren Celia and Duke Kenney. A celebration of her remarkable life will be held on Saturday, November 25th at 
Waialae Country Club. Reception: 8:00 a.m.; Program: 9:00 a.m. Lei are welcome.

May 1917 - Oct 2017 After a long and wonderful life, LeBurta Gates Atherton, beloved mother, Tutu, community icon 
and philanthropist, died peacefully on October 22, 2017 at her longtime Honolulu home at the age of 100. Born 
LeBurta Marie Gates, she was the third of seven children of Charles and Hazel Gates of Denver, Colorado. During her 
youth the Gates family spent time in Honolulu for business and health reasons. In addition to attending Kent School in 
Denver, Burta also attended Punahou School where she was a member of the class of 1935. In 1941, while attending 
her sister's wedding in Honolulu, Burta was involved in an automobile accident. One of the other passengers in the car 
was Alexander "Pug" Atherton. While in the hospital a romance developed and Burta and Pug were married in 
Colorado October 1941. They immediately moved to Honolulu where Burta resided for her remaining life. During 
World War II, Pug was a Naval Officer and Burta served as both a "Grey Lady" for the Navy and a volunteer for the 
Hawaii Red Cross. In 1951 Burta and Pug built a home in Honolulu where they raised their three children, Balbi 
Atherton Brooks, Frank Cooke Atherton II (Emily Coe) and Margie Atherton Newell (Frank). While Pug pursued his 
business career Burta became involved in innumerable charitable activities. These included Queen's Medical Center 
where she chaired the Festival of Trees, YWCA, Garden Club, Outdoor Circle, Hawaii Red Cross and President of the 
Junior League of Honolulu. She served on the boards of Queens Medical Center, Hawaii Preparatory Academy (HPA) 
and Honolulu Academy of Arts, continuing to serve on a couple well into her 90's. When not raising her family and 
doing community work, Burta and Pug shared a love for travel, which they have passed on to their entire family. 
Following Pug's death in 1996 she continued her community and charitable work, travel and became an inspiration to 
another generation of family and friends. Her love of adventure and nature took her to all seven continents. She loved 
the wilds of Africa and seeing animals in their natural setting. Her only travel regret was not living long enough to travel 
into Space. In addition to her children, Burta is survived by five grandchildren who adored their Tutu: Stephanie Newell, 
Michelle Newell, Alika Brooks, Erin Atherton Bennett and Frank Cooke Atherton III (Tripper), not to mention her 3 great 
grandchildren, Cadence and Magnolia Bennett and Juliette Atherton. Her life was culminated by not one but three 
beautiful Centennial celebrations. The first at a Hawaii Red Cross Centennial event where she was honored, the second 
at her childhood home in Evergreen, Colorado and the third in Honolulu with many family and friends at her home. It 
was a fitting conclusion to the life of an elegant and generous woman with boundless energy who inspired and was 
loved by many. Burta's memorial will be private with a Celebration of Life to be arranged at a later date. In lieu of 
flowers Burta and her family encourage donations to: St Francis Hospice of Hawaii; Hawaii Red Cross Children's

Hawaiian in Honolulu and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1945. President of Dower Realty, Inc. and Dower 
School of Real Estate, she was a pillar in the real estate community. Contributing to many boards and organizations 
such as, Hawaiian Civic Club, Hawaii Association of Realtors, Honolulu Board of Realtors, Historic Hawaii Foundation, 
Rotary Club, Kaimuki Neighborhood Board. and more. Betty also had an adventurous spirit. She traveled the 
worldhaving an adventure at every stop, staying in ashrams in Indiahiking Machu Picchu at age 74hiking Tiger's Nest in 
Bhutan at age 79and at age 80 rafting the Grand Canyon and jumping (with her grandchildren) out of an airplane (for 
the 2nd time)! But what Betty is truly known for is that she embraced the spirit of alohaextending warmth and 
affection in caring with no obligation in returnand always with an infectious smile. Betty was preceded in death by her 
husband, Frank Joseph Dowertrue high school sweethearts. She had 9 children, 14 grandchildren, 9 great-
grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grand- children and numerous hanai. In lieu of having a public memorial for Betty, the 
'Ohana is privately celebrating her wonderful life. If you wish to celebrate Betty's life, jump in Kaimana Beachwear blue
