WILLIAM J. ALBERT Age 70, passed away on September 10, 2017 in Honolulu. "Bill," or "Uncle Willy," was born and 
raised in Long Island, New York. At 17, he left home in a VW van to pursue his dream of surfing in California. He was a 
lifelong surfer who loved the ocean and the great friendships it brought him. He is survived by his wife Camilla, his 
niece Samantha, nephew John, and many other cherished friends and family members.

4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Betty is also survived by her sister Florence Smith of North Bend, 
Washington and was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister. Service will be held on Saturday, October 21st 2017

Lorraine Lin Fah (Lau) Lee, 88 passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Even in 
her final days, Lorraine maintained the same sharp wit and sarcasm that delighted and entertained her family and 
friends for so many years. Her love and devotion to her family are now a part of our Lord's heavenly record. Lorraine 
was born on February 14, 1929 in Honolulu, Hawaii, and was one of ten children. She graduated from Sacred Hearts 
Academy, and began a successful career with Hawaiian Telephone Company. After many years of dedicated service, 
she retired to enjoy a life with her family. Her kind and generous disposition will forever be remembered along with 
the precious memories she gave to all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Alfred H.S. Lee, her four children, 
Jo-Anne Nakagawa (Thomas Noguchi, Companion), Thomas Lee (Christine), Patrick Lee (Mary) and Jeri-Anne Martin 
(Paul); her nine loving grandchildren, Robert Nakagawa (Becky), Brian Nakagawa (Serena), Kevin "Kaleo" Lee 
(Christine), Jennifer Lee, Kristen Lee, Matthew Lee, Samantha Lee, Brynn Ladoniczki (Matthew), and Jonathan "Kalani" 
Martin; and nine beautiful great grandchildren Vivian, Caleb, Valerie , Celeste, Donovan and Carli Nakagawa; Ethan Lee, 
Noa and Mia Ladoniczki; her sisters Edith Leong, Eleanor Park, and Patricia Lee and her brother Milton Lau; her sister-in-
law Margarette Hee, brother's-in-law Richard Lee and James Lee, and a multitude of cousins, nephews and nieces. 
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Annie and Abraham Lau, as well as her siblings, Arthur Lau, Beatrice 
Lee, Constance Chong, Delores Kau, and Kelvin Lau. She will be missed by many and loved forever. The family wishes to 
thank the personnel and nursing staff at Kahala Nui for their compassionate care and kindness of our beloved Lorraine. 
A funeral service will be held to honor Lorraine Lee on Monday, October 16, at Diamond Head Mortuary. Visitation will 
start at 9:30AM and service will start at 10:45AM with lunch to follow. Burial will be at 2:00PM. Aloha Attire.

September 26, 2017 Dr. Herbert Y. H. Chinn, 97, of Honolulu, a renowned physician, passed peacefully in his sleep on 
September 26, 2017, in Honolulu. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Una Chuh Chinn; sons Dr. Herbert K. W. 
(Vivian) Chinn, Dr. Stephen K. B. (Gwen) Chinn, Hon. Eric K. H. (Hon. Lisa Chin) Chinn; daughters Dr. Patricia L. Chinn, 
Barbara C. (Fred) Lau, Wendy C. (Blake) Vance; brother Dr. Kenneth Y. T. (Lillian) Chinn; and nine grandchildren. Herbert 
Y. H. Chinn graduated from St. Louis High School, Western Reserve University [nka Case Western Reserve University], 
and Boston University School of Medicine. After completing his residency at Kings County Hospital in New York City, Dr. 
Chinn returned home where he established himself as a pioneer of modern medicine in the state. Dr. Chinn led the 
development of hemodialysis and transplant medicine in Hawaii with the creation of the kidney dialysis and kidney 
transplant programs at St. Francis Hospital. As President of the Hawaii Medical Association, Dr. Chinn obtained federal 
funding to develop Hawaii's Emergency Medical Technician program. As Chairman of Hawaii's Emergency Medical 
Services program, Dr. Chinn ensured "911" was expanded throughout the state. Dr. Chinn was a driving force in 
establishing the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine. In addition to his many professional 
contributions, Herb was a dedicated, loving husband, father, and (with six children to feed) an excellent cook. For years 
at Thanksgiving, Herb was known to prepare the most delicious, kiawe-smoked turkeys and chickens in his homemade 
55-gallon drum smoker. Herb would awaken at 3 am and, by mid-afternoon, deliver 20-25 smoked chickens and 
turkeys to share with relatives and friends. Herb and Una were innovative in their culinary creations which included 
using Una's secret, family-tested marinade that Herb would inject into chicken thighs long before the use of kitchen 
syringes became fashionable. Herb was an avid and proud home gardener and farmer who delighted in sharing his 
sweet, juicy tangerines, longan, pomelo, starfruit, and flowers, as well as tilapia raised in his fish pond. He shared his 
New Year crab claw narcissus which he carved with surgical precision. As active with his family as with his medical 
career, Herb created lasting memories of weekend crabbing and fishing trips in Kaneohe, swimming and barbeques in 
Waimanalo, making "assembly line" lau lau at home with his children, attending midnight mass with the family 
followed by a potful of takeout won ton mein for his ohana to enjoy at home, and countless family gatherings in his 
and Una's home. Traveling together from the Great Wall to the pyramids in Egypt and beyond, Herb swept Una around 
the world. Truly a model, loving husband and caring father, Herb is in our hearts forever. Community Recognition: 1966 
Father of the Year in Medicine-Hawaii; 1988 United Chinese Society Model Chinese Father of the Year; 2003 Hawaii

1939-2017 Jay S. Anderson was born in Seattle in 1939. He passed away at home on hospice care in Ventura, CA, on 
September 30 at the age of 78, after 13 years with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Jay grew up across the street from 
Green Lake, in a time when Nordstrom's was just a shoe store that x-rayed customers' feet before fitting them with 
shoes. When he was a boy, he swam across Green Lake and later, Hood Canal. A graduate of Lincoln High School, he 
went on to earn his B.A. in Architecture from the University of Washington. When his Hawaii fraternity brothers at UW 
went back home, he decided he would join them. He worked as an architect for several firms, eventually establishing 
his own firm, Anderson Associates. He approached negotiations on a win-win basis, leaving a little on the table, and 
always tried to practice business ethically. In 1987 he literally "bought the farm" retiring to 40 acres in rural Southwest 
Washington in a town called Pe Ell (pop. 600). As a gentleman farmer, he grew hay, raised salmon and had five pet 
ducks. He learned to make his own wine and to hunt for deer. He returned to Hawaii to live several times, where he 
continued to enjoy hiking, swimming and fishing on the good ship Meleana with his buddies. Those buddies recall him 
as an adventurous spirit and a bit of a character, especially on some wild crossings to Molokai and in the Alenuihaha 
Channel. When he decided to retire for a second time, he moved to Ventura, California, convinced it offered the best 
golfing weather on the West Coast. And it did. Two of his three holes-in-one were on Ventura courses; the other was in 
Ireland with his two sons. Throughout his life he practiced Tibetan Buddhism under the guidance of his beloved Lama 
Karma Rinchen at the Dharma Center in Nuuanu. He is grieved, celebrated and remembered by his wife Marsha (nee 
Petersen), son Max and granddaughter Amelia of Seattle, son Mark (Caroline) and grandsons Ethan and Tate of 
Honolulu, stepchildren Geoff and Melissa Rapp, as well as his sister, Judy Morgan. He is also survived by his nephew 
John Morgan and niece Molly Apel and her family. A memorial service is planned for February in Honolulu. For more 
information, email kuikawa@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Planned 
Parenthood or to Kagyu Thegchen Ling Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Center in Honolulu. His body was donated to UCLA 
Medical School; his spirit is off on his next adventure.

September 04, 2017 at Pali Momi Medical Center. He was born in Waialua to Agapita and Roque Espiritu. A Sheetmetal 
Journeyman by trade, Celo worked for SMAC until his retirement. He was an avid sportsman and will be remembered 
for his many years of coaching local baseball, softball and basketball teams for his four sons. Wife, mother, and 
grandmother, Jovita "Jovie" Corpuz Espiritu, 73, joined her beloved husband in eternal peace when she passed away on 
September 30, 2017 at Pali Momi Medical Center. She was born in the Philippines to Angelita and Jose Corpuz, Sr. Jovie 
will be remembered for her fantastic cooking and love of cooking for others. She and Celo made a great team when 
preparing and cooking dishes for family and social events. Celo and Jovie are survived by their four sons, Jerome, Jason 
(Mildred), Jesse and Jerel; Celo's sister, Dolores (Francis) Baysa; Jovie's siblings, Roger, Jeanette (James) Bushey, 
Merilyn Thompson and Dave (Deborah); and their grandchildren, Logan, Alyssa, Joshua and McKenzee. A Celebration of 
Celo and Jovie's Life Together will be held on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Mililani Memorial Park Mauka Chapel.

1962. A lifelong teacher of mathematics, she and her family lived at various times on Kauai, Guam, and O'ahu. She was 
a teacher, then the Dean of Students, at St. Andrew's Priory before becoming the Program Officer for the Episcopal 
Church in Hawai'i. After retiring she volunteered at the Bible Institute of Hawaii, Hospice Hawaii and Project Dana. She 
enjoyed traveling, baking and spending time with her grand- children. Lucille is survived by her husband David, three 
daughters, Amy Yonashiro (Terry), Patti Nagami (Craig) and Lisa Tamura Tanoue (Clayton), six grandchildren, Ryan 
(Breianna), Brandyn, Loren, Brent, Trevor and Jaycie, and two great grandchildren, Jacob and Hannah. She is also 
survived by her sisters, Marilyn Nishioka (Roy) and Georgiana Kobayashi (Albert), nieces and nephews. Funeral services 
will be held at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, Aiea, on Saturday, October 28th, aloha attire. Visitation will begin at 9:00

George Yeichi Kikuyama, 100, of Kihei, passed away on October 1, 2017 at his residence under the care of his loving 
family. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Nakamura Mortuary from 10:00am to 10:30am, with 
service to begin at 10:30am. Burial to follow at Maui Memorial Park at 1:00pm. Nakamura Mortuary assisted with 
arrangements. Born in Pi'inoa, Hilo, Island of Hawaii on February 1, 1917, to Jiro and Ushi Kikuyama, in his youth he 
lived in Wainee Camp in Lahaina, Maui. Later he worked for HC&S as a heavy equipment operator and moved to Kihei 
with his beloved wife in 1950 where he farmed and eventually developed a mango orchard. In the late 80's he opened 
the Kihei Gas, Kar Wash and Kwik Stop. In his retirement, he enjoyed visiting Las Vegas and playing his slots. Mr. 
Kikuyama is predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Hazel (Ajimine) Kikuyama and is survived by his children, 
Charlene Kikuyama (Skipper), Albert Kikuyama, Dennis Kikuyama; grandchildren, Maile (Kikuyama) Uohara, Tina 
Kikuyama; great grandchildren, Emiko Hatsue Uohara, Kiyoshi George Uohara; brother, Bert Kikuyama and many, many 
nieces and nephews. Family request aloha/casual attire.

Pauline (Pu-mei) Lin Chang, 99 (Chinese 100), passed away on October 12, 2017. She was born in Beijing, China, on 
May 10, 1918. As one of only a few female students, Pauline graduated from the "Harvard" of China, Tsinghua 
University, with the Grand Prize in Chemistry and the goal of becoming a medical doctor. Pauline and her husband of 
55 years, Hawai'i architect and entrepreneur Sam Chang, lived in China, Taiwan, Japan, and Okinawa before settling in 
Hawai'i in 1958. At age 45, Pauline began teaching Chinese at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, "adopting" her 
students as her second family. After 25 years, she retired as a tenured full professor and co-author of a Chinese 
language textbook. She wrote classical Chinese poetry to express her love of nature and the grandeur of the universe. 
Pauline was an active member and deacon of the Chinese Lutheran Church of Honolulu. She also donated to numerous 
charities as her mission in retirement. Pauline is survived by daughters Peggy and Vicki; sons Karl, Kenneth and Henry; 
8 grand- children Dorothy, Cathy, Howard, Alec, Justin, Garrett, Calla and Sonia; and 3 great-grandchildren Mathew, 
Olivia and Nathanael. Pauline was very proud that all five of her children attended Ivy League schools. Pauline's 
memorial service will be Saturday, November 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chinese Lutheran Church of Honolulu at 1640 Liliha 
Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Chinese Lutheran Church of Honolulu or a 
charity of your choice.

Frederick K. "Fred" Duennebier, loving and beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, 73, of Honolulu, passed 
away peacefully on October 12, 2017 with his family by his side. Fred is survived by his wife, two children, and new 
grandson, as well as his three sisters, one brother, and nieces and nephews. Fred was born in 1943 in Rochester, NY. He 
graduated from Irondequoit High School, Trinity College, and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, 
where for over 40 years he enjoyed teaching and research in geology & geophysics. Fred said: "I've had a great life with 
no regrets and lots of love, fun and satisfaction, wonderful wife and kids, family, friends, and so much fun working that 
it always surprised me that they paid me to do it. The last ten years have been a bonus; so all in all I'll be leaving this 
world very content."

Roy Nobuji Niimi MD, 78. Born April 21, 1939. Died October 16, 2017, with his loving wife of 54 years, Oleta, and his 
four children by his side. He died in Honolulu, Hawaii. Roy was a pediatric doctor with a MD from the University of 
Nebraska College of Medicine. After his internship at St Francis Hospital in Honolulu, he served in the United States 
Army from 1967-70, first as a medical adviser and liaison with MILPHAP, Vietnam, with the Navy and also with the 
civilian Vietnamese doctors; and then at Fort Meade, Maryland. He did his pediatric residency at the University of 
Nebraska Medical Center from 1970 to 1973 and was certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in 1974 before 
joining the medical practice at Kalihi Medical Center from 1974 to 1997. He opened a private practice in Aiea from 
1997 to 2014. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Hawaii Medical Association and a Fellow of 
the American Academy of Pediatrics. He served as an Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics with the University of 
Hawaii School of Medicine; as chairman of the former Medical Management Committee of the Pacific Medical 
Administrative Group (PMAG); and as an Executive Committee member of both the Hawaii Chapter American Academy 
of Pediatrics and Kauikeolani Children's Hospital. He is survived by his wife, two brothers, two sisters, four children and 
six grandchildren; preceded in death by two sisters. Roy was a quiet and dignified man, who enjoyed tennis, golfing and 
fishing. He was respected by those who knew him and will be sorely missed. A private service was held. In lieu of 
flowers or gifts, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements Provided By: HOSOI GARDEN

Janet "Jane" Kim Lun Gaison, 87, of Waipahu, Hawai'i, passed away on October 23, 2017 at Tripler Army Medical 
Hospital. Jane was born on August 5, 1930 in Kalihi, Honolulu and was raised there with her parents and nine siblings. 
She was the second youngest child of Mary and Yuen You Kam and a proud graduate of Roosevelt High School in 1948. 
She lived in Alaska, Colorado, New Jersey, Washington, and California before returning to Hawai'i. She spent her years 
supporting her Master Sergeant husband, William, as a military homemaker and lovingly raising her four children. She 
worked briefly as a substitute teacher and teacher aide, as well as a Customer Service Clerk at Sears, Roebuck & 
Company. Jane is survived by her daughters Jill (Wayne) Gaison-Ganiko and Jana (Wayne) Gaison-Terukina, brother 
Robert Kam, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchilden, and numerous nieces and 
nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Kamahalo Gaison, her eldest daughter, Janet Baricar, and 
youngest daughter, Jodi Gaison. Memorial and tribute services will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 9:00 
a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Borthwick Mortuary, Mauka Chapel, 1330 Maunakea St., Honolulu, Hawai'i. Burial will be on 
Monday, November 13, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl).
