No full textA portrait of Eva Bowman, who was a Native Nashvillian, Civic Leader, Businesswoman and Beautician. She trained for cosmetology under Madame C.J. Walker’s Lelia College. She became the first Black Beauty Inspector and Examiner of Cosmetology for the state of Tennessee. As a businesswoman, she became the proprietor of Bowman Beauty and Barber College and in 1946 introduced the fantastic curl called the “cooler curl”, a curl without hot irons of grease. She also owned and operated Alice's Beauty and Beauty School and trained Veterans in her Physio-Therapy Institute

No full textThis is a video recording from an American Baptist College Musical during the 27th Annual Garnett-Nabrit Lecture Series. This event takes place at the Faith United Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville, TN. The video opens with the camera focused on the choir's seats and low background chatter can be heard until people begin to enter the frame at 5:10. At 5:36 an unidentified man opens the event. At 7:29, a member of the Christian Friends group sings. At 12:18, J. Robert Bradley, a well-known gospel singer, performs. At 21:00, The American Baptist College Choir performs. These individuals and groups perform a number of times throughout the video. At 39:26, Professor N.E. Douglas - the Division of Humanities Pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Nashville, TN - provides greetings for the event. At 1:30:42, Rev. Samuel Hale - an alumnus of American Baptist College and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY - speaks about the Christian answer to conflict which is the harmony of spirit. He thanks the guests and participants of the event at this time as well. Rev. Theodore Judson Jemison, the former President of the National Baptist Convention, then provides closing remarks at 1:35:46. Following this, Rev. Hale provides the benediction at 1:49:53. Rev. Jemison ends the event with song and prayer at 1:50:22. The content ends at 1:51:47 and there is dead air until the end of the video
