No full textDr. Rafael Cortada (1934-2017) served as fourth President of UDC from 1987 through 1990. Cortada received his BA in philosophy from Fordham in 1955; his MA in secondary education from Columbia University, in 1958; and his P.D. from Fordham in Latin American and modern European history in 1967. Before serving as president of UDC, Cortada served as president of Metropolitan Community College in Minneapolis, from 1974-1977; the Community College of Baltimore, 1977-1982, and El Camino College in Torrance, CA, from 1982-1987. He pushed for funding for UDC's Mt. Vernon property into a campus for a proposed community college and other schools. After leaving UDC, Cortada was president of Wayne County Community College in Detroit; Central Ohio Technical College in Newark Ohio, from 1994-1999. From 1999-2001, Cortada taught history education at Ohio State University in Newark. He retired in 2001
